A bargain indeed. Versatile, can play anywhere along the back four, midfield and even as a second striker. He'll only get better from now.

Scott Malone officially signs from Bournemouth to Millwall on a 3 year contract. The deal included Josh McQuoid going the other way, as well as £750k.

Quite an expensive bit of business on our part but I hear he is real quality. We needed a first choice left back with Craig and Barron both having their weaknesses, hopefully Malone can bring stability to the position.

I'm disappointed McQuoid didn't get more of a chance at Millwall, we spent £550k on him (another large-ish transfer fee for us) and had a dip in form but was never really given first team chance. I hear he had a bit of an attitude problem and got demoralised quite quickly because of the lack of first team opportunities. He was highly rated but Jackett clearly didn't think he lived up to it.

Agree with most of that Mikey, but from what I've heard the deal is valued at 750k total, and we valued McQuoid at the fee we paid last January.
I.E. we've actually only spent £200K on Malone, and shipped out a player who wasn't getting a look in. Seems like good business to me, in that context.

We've signed Elliot Hewitt from Macclesfield. A young 18 year old Englishmen. Don't know much about him but it's nice to see Jewell bringing in young talent rather than old has-beens.

I'm with you now mate, there's been a bit of confusion online as to what we were actually offering. Not a bad deal at all for us then really.

I think so. I'd guess Malone will be on smaller wages than McQuoid anyway so that 200k difference is probably even less. From our perspective it's probably not far off a straight swap.

Evidently, as if you did you'd know he's welsh. ;) Hes highly rated by Macc and they would know what a decent prospect looks like after the shite they've seen this season.

Have Charlton forgotten that they can sign players or did they use all the money up last season?

we barely spent a penny last summer that we didn't bring in through player sales. I'm sure we are just picking out the right players, your squad needs a lot more work than ours to be ready for the Championship, we were streets ahead all season.

yeah its not gone down well on the Wolves site, Its a strange one, the only benefit I can see to him is that he is under 21 so won't count against the squad limit. I am all for letting players develop and not writing them off till they are 23/24 however from what I have seen of Nouble he seems to be a product of the old English youth system in that you can see he was most likely the biggest and quickest kid in his age group and thus deemed to be a good player due to this physical stats.

Just signed a RB, Bruno Saltor from Valencia on a free.

Decent pedigree - and further indication that Vicente is likely to sign a new deal, which would be quality.

Was Vicente any good last year? I thought he was injured for the majority of the season.

He was indeed injured for a large chunk of the season, from about October 'til January. Seemed to go from one problem to the next (past history suggesting some might be psychological) - people were starting to lose patience, including Gus. He then underwent a strict fitness rehabilitation programme upon the arrival of our new German doctor around February time - forced his way back to full fitness (said he felt in better shape than he had done for a long time), and didn't look back from there. Put together a run about 15 apps at the end of the season and was a class above in most our games - notched a few goals and something crazy like 9 assists to put us back into play-off contention. Although ultimately we fell short.

Here's a taster of some of the moments he produced.

To say the fans have taken to him would be an understatement, and Gus has essentially said we have a chance of keeping him if we can bring in players of similar (or closer) technical quality who are on his wave length. Signing one of his old mates from Valencia (possibly on his recommendation) would suggest he's likely to stay. Although the Argus have reported a deal is 95% completed anyway.

Whilst it's exciting, considering where we've come from in such a short space of time - I have my reservations about putting all our eggs in one basket (there's always a chance Vicente will return to his perennial crocked-self), and also the wages some of these out of contract players may command. Though I trust Tony Bloom to keep things within a reasonable budget.

Game changer against us. Came on and produced a beauty of an assist. Just a clear touch of quality.
