So, the real stuff starts tomorrow. For once our athletes look set to pull their weight in terms of medals - medal target of 8, could be anywhere between 5 bankers and 14 if absolutely everything comes off but probably 8-9. The overall competition looks fantastic, the head to head sprints and hurdles, some very fiercly contested field events to look out for (GB well represented in those for a change) and likely to be at least 2 World Records across the course of the Games. Look out for American decathlete Ashton Eaton - he is something very special indeed.

Many of our medal hopes are frontloaded with Ennis, Farah, Greene, Ohurougu, Aldama, Bleasdale, Rutherford and Tomlinson all in action in the first two days.

Amazing start by Jessica Ennis. Breaks the 100m Hurdles record for a heptathlete in her first event!

Can't believe she broke the British record for 100m hurdles, a great start.

Also gutted that I won't be able to see her in action tomorrow, or Mo Farah, because I'm going to a wedding - such bad timing.

Aldama into the Triple Jump Final well off the board and not running in properly. She's a real medal shot, I reckon she'll get one.

Fantastic start from Ennis - new world record to boot in the hurdles :)

Also, Johnson Thompson is my new eye candy.

Get used to seeing KJT Nick - she's going to rule this event for years.

Hope it dries out quickly for the High Jump, vital event for Ennis to stretch the lead.

Ennis leads overnight after a great 200m. She can do it!!

I don't know what it is with our heptathletes, but Katarina Johnson-Thompson looks pretty tidy too.

Johnson-Thompson has performed well for a 19 year old, this experience will do her a world of good going forward.

Great 200m by Ennis the last 60m especially it was an amazing finish.

Very impressed with Ennis' 200m - only the shot put has let her down slightly for obvious reasons. She has a 200+ point lead though which should really see her through to a gold barring a major cock up.

Johnson Thompson has been very impressive, just needs to work on her strength and improve her start when running. She's fit as well which helps.

Fantastic long jump for Ennis, that and the Javelin are normally her poor events

She can almost afford a poor javelin now and still win, so she's in a brilliant position.

Yeah will be a cracking final if all the best get through the semis which they should do unless there is a false start. Great time by Bailey in the first heat, obviously some were holding back though.

Great throw in the javelin from the French lady, longest ever throw in the javelin by a woman in the heptaphlon.

Good throw by Ennis too as its not her best event.

I'd hope so but the three Jamaicans Bolt, Blake & Powell and the three Americans Gay, Bailey & Gatlan will be tough to beat.

Not a hope in hell. He ran through the line for 10.02. Bailey ran through the line in 9.88 and he's not in the same class as Bolt or Blake which gives 3 already without even mentioning the 2nd and 3rd fastest men in history. Neither Bolt nor Blake actually reached top speed in their heats at any point and both ran inside 10.1.

The crowd will be off the hook tonight - got the warm up act in the Long Jump - which because it's of desperate quality is very exciting as almost anyone in the final can win it, including 2 Brits (Rutherford for a minor medal I reckon) - then Christine, Ennis and Farah in succession on the track.

Really will be good. Agree on Rutherford too, can't see Tomlinson pulling something out of the bag. Bronze for Greg I feel.

Personally I hope Chambers ends up with absolutely fuck all. It's not so much that he was a cheat, it's also that he doesn't seem to give a shit.
