http://www.dailymail...-penalties.html

Let’s finally dispel a widely-held myth. Manchester United are not awarded the most penalties in the Premier League.

In fact, in the list of most spot-kicks awarded since the competition’s creation in 1992 they aren’t even in second place.

After years of ribbing over 'Fergie time' and referees giving United the benefit of the doubt when a man in a red shirt hits the deck at the Stretford End, fans of the Old Trafford club may feel an air of vindication when they see that Liverpool have been given the most penalties in Premier League history with 119.

Sportsmail on Monday reported that referee Anthony Taylor privately believes Liverpool’s Raheem Sterling tricked him into awarding a penalty for Brendan Rodgers’ side at Stoke City last weekend.

One more of those and they’ll hit 120.

Arsenal have been awarded six more penalties than United (111), with 117, putting them in second place.

It is well known Dispensation FC are the luckiest team in the land, penalty's, rule changes, playing teams with key injuries to players, manager shake ups the list is endless.

They still lead that one by a long way

I apologise to Liverpool fans for giving them reality checks and burning away their cherished beliefs they have convinced themselves of ;)

Least penalties against has to be Man United, never at Old Trafford anyways.

They've gone the longest without conceding one at home, I think.

As soon as I saw the title of the thread and saw Spear had created it, I feared the worst.

I agree with the above sentiments. I think a lot of the penalties / United argument comes from United never actually conceding any, especially at home.

But of course because United are now mid table fodder, they're now arguing against the top dogs of English football and pretending to be underdogs. Cute.

Their last PL red card was in the 6-1, too.

They've gone the longest without conceding one at home, I think.

More than 10 years wasn't it?

For no particular reason, the last I can remember them conceding at home came in a 4-1 loss in March 2009?

How many of the recent penalties at Old Trafford were in European games which involved foreign referees?

http://www.myfootbal...Statistics.html

United have had 26 penalties against them in since 2002/3 (when this site starts counting for some reason.

Compared to other clubs who have spent all or most of that spell in the top flight, United and Chelsea are statistical anomalies.

Arsenal - 48
Chelsea - 30
Everton - 40
Villa - 65
Liverpool - 42
Spurs - 48
Newcastle - 50
City - 42
Fulham - 49

And some others..
West Ham (3 fewer seasons) - 38
Sunderland (3 fewer seasons) - 43
West Brom (4 fewer seasons) - 42
Stoke (6 fewer seasons) - 31

It's probably dude to the fact that United and Chelsea have had the best defenses in the last 12 years.

Well...could be. Arsenal's last league title came the following year and they have been 3rd/4th ever since, Liverpool finished 3rd/4th a few times and outside the top 4 since 10 whilst Spurs have only been in the top 4 once.

You have to compare those penalty stats to their average defenses since 02/03. I'm sure you'll find that United and Chelsea have conceded the fewest goals in that period. And whilst Arsenal have always been contenders, they never based their play (mostly anyway) on defensive unity.

Truth be told, the better teams concede less penalties. It's that simple.

You just know that United's not conceding a penalty streak will end against Mourinho and Chelsea.

Is there a list anywhere to show how many penalties teams should have had if the referee had the balls to award them whilst officiating at the 'Big' clubs?

x2

Man Utd have been given the most dodgy penalties and worse is when they get away with actual penalties when defending

Red cards as well (Rooney elbowing everyone in plain sight)
