PR 05-Apr-03 - Middlesbrough 3 - 0 West Bromwich Albion
PR 30-Nov-02 - West Bromwich Albion 1 - 0 Middlesbrough
D1 04-Apr-98 - West Bromwich Albion 2 - 1 Middlesbrough

Not that much to go on.
This fixture is made all the more interesting after the Baggies appointed Bryan Robson as their new manager today.

I think every genuine Boro fan is gratefull to him in one respect - his name attracted the big names to Middlesbrough and basically put us on the map for footballing reasons. However the bitterness he showed after being sacked was disappointing and showed a lack of respect to Steve Gibson and the Boro supporters.
McClaren, in terms of tactical nous, is in a different league to Robbo and we are playing excellent stuff away from home this season however the Hawthorns hasn't been a happy hunting ground for us in recent times so it won't be easy.
Tough one to call but I fancy us to pinch the points, 2-0.

Robson takes the reign of his new charges, and wouldn't you know it, they play his old club Middlesbrough.
The Albion season really needs to start somewhere, here would be ideal. However, McLaren's Boro are now a force to be reckoned with.
It will make a change for Robson to witness a Boro victory from the dugout. Just his luck really.......

Tough game, we snatch and early lead before they get one back shy of the break. We seal it with 15 to go.

WBA 4-1 Boro
I just think everything is set up for a boro failure:
flying high, arrogant?, old manager, first game.
Plus we have zoltan gera, so no problem.

Arrogant??I'm going to go against every bit of logic in mine, and everyone elses body and go with my heart.

That really irritates me how because we're doing well we're suddenly arrogant. I really don't know how you come to that conclusion.
We're confident, we should be because we're a good side but confidence and arrogance aren't the same thing. You won't hear a Boro supporter going round saying we're the best thing going, because we know we bloody well aren't!
One thing I will say is, WBA will not score 4 past us tomorrow. I'd be surprised if they scored more than 1. We're solid at the back and they are garbage up front, with the defence we have only the top sides can thrash us.

Why does everyone seem to think a slip up is going to happen for Boro
Because we're playing them next.
Its an old manager.
And as for arrogance, does it matetr what the supporters think?
If your players turn up with the attitude that it will be a walk over, then it is arrogance.

Have you heard any Middlesbrough player come out and say, "We'll thrash West Brom out of sight on Sunday."??Because we're playing them next.

I haven't.

Its not about going to the press saying this will be a walkover. Even if you say this will be a tough battle. If you start with the attitude that "we've got 3 points off better teams than these", then you will probably not go in at top speed from the start...Have you heard any Middlesbrough player come out and say, "We'll thrash West Brom out of sight on Sunday."??
I haven't.
A slow start is hard to make up for...

It's all down to attitude at the end of the day. If we play to our full potential then I don't think it's being unreasonable to say that we 'should' win but football isn't that easy to call - otherwise i'd win the pools every week!
I'd take a point tomorrow, I always do away from home but I have to admit with R*bson having taken over i'd love us to give him a good pasting
He has a touch of arrogance but not the same sort of arrogance as Fabrizio Ravanelli or Alen Boksic for example.the only player who is arrogant in the Boro squad is Hasselbaink, he's always had that trait though.
Jimmy has massive belief in his own ability, he is a super player afterall, but he isn't a big time charlie at least he hasn't been since joining us. By all accounts he is extremely popular around the club and has been a breath of fresh air, just a true pro with confidence in his ability.
I hope it's a good game tomorrow Bobster, I want a match report because i'm working and won't be able to watch it

We always seem to pick up a last minute injury for our sunday games on sky but providing we buck that trend we should like-up:
Schwarzer
McMahon Riggott Southgate Queudrue
Parlour Boateng Zenden Downing
Hasselbaink Viduka
UP THE BORO.
1-2

I would like this lineup:
Kuzszcak
Scimeca Gaardsoe Purse Albrechsten
Gera Koumas Inamoto Greening
Kanu Earnie
(this is assuming Inamoto is happy to sit back a bit more)
