Hertha Berlin and Hannover 96 will trade tackles at the Olympiastadion for their second meeting of the 2024/25 2. Bundesliga campaign. It also doubles as the season’s final game for the two teams.

As of the time of writing, Hertha Berlin have garnered 43 points and they sit in 11th position on the log after 32 games played. On the other hand, Hannover 96 have picked up 49 points from 32 matches, and are placed 8th on the standings.

A game between Hertha Berlin and Hannover was a Bundesliga fixture just a few years back, but fortunes have changed for both teams, and they are trying to work their way back up to the top flight. Although Hannover do have a slight chance of sealing a promotion play-off spot, Hertha are out of it and are certain to play in the second tier for another season.

Hertha Berlin started the season without a win in their first two games. Die Alte Dame lost to  Paderborn in their opening game before a 1-1 draw with Hamburg. The next two games against Regensburg produced a 2-0 win courtesy of late goals from Felix Gebhardt (own goal) and Florian Niederlechner.

Berlin then edged Kaiserslautern in a seven-goal thriller. Luca Schuler grabbed a brace to lead his side to their second league win of the season. Hertha lost 2-0 to Dusseldorf before returning to winning ways with a 2-0 at Nurnberg. Back in the capital, Hertha lost once again before they managed to secure a point against Schalke 04.

Hertha’s next three games in all competitions produced comfortable wins. However, they slumped into a miserable run that left them with just a win in eight matches in all competitions. Head coach Cristian Fiél was eventually dismissed for the poor run, and Stefan Leitl was appointed in February.

At the time of writing, Hertha have not lost in any of their past seven (W5 D2) games after failing to win (D1 L6) a single game in the previous seven before that. Die Alte Dame are looking to finish the season on a high, and they will be heavy favourites to take all three points despite their position on the log.

As for Hannover 96, they made a fine start to the season with a 2-0 win over Regensburg in their opening game of the season. Nicolo Tresoldi and Jannik Dehm scored in the first half of the contest to secure all three points for Hannover. On match day two, they were held to a goalless draw by Preussen Münster.

On match day three, they returned to winning ways by beating Hamburg at home. Jessic Ngankam scored the game’s only goal from the penalty spot before the first defeat of the season against Dusseldorf in the following league game. Hannover returned to winning ways by beating Kaiserslautern 3-1 at home in the next fixture. Hyun-ju Lee, Max Christiansen, and Thaddaus-Monju Momuluh scored for Hannover in the commanding win.

In the next three 2. Bundesliga games, Hannover lost twice and won one. The only win was the game against Nuremberg. The remaining games in October produced back-to-back wins over Schalke and Magdeburg. At the time of writing, Hannover have won just twice in the past six league games. By the way, in the DFB Pokal, they were knocked out in the opening hurdle against Arminia Bielefeld.

It is a fixture that has produced four consecutive draws, including the last Bundesliga game between the pair. The past three meetings between the two teams in 2. The Bundesliga have all finished draws, with the most recent one in Hannover last year ending goalless. The last winner in this tie was Hertha when the two teams were still in the Bundesliga. In addition, Hannover have not won a competitive game away at Berlin since 2014.

Everything is pointing towards another win for Hertha as they look to end the season on a high. However, Hannover have won their past two games at the time of writing, so they will not be pushovers. In 2. Bundesliga this term, Hertha have the worst home record, and they have suffered the most defeats at home (8), while Hannover have won five away games this season.

Hertha Berlin and Hannover 96 have not been far from each other this campaign. The pair are only separated by six points at the time of writing.  Hertha are unbeaten in their past four home games. Getting Hertha Berlin tickets on time should be a priority.

On the other hand, Hannover have also recovered from a poor run of form to secure wins in their past two games against Ulm and Hannover. Meanwhile, they have won three of their past five games on the road.
