The Premier League Two-Horse Race

April 7, 2022 4:10 pm Published by Leave your thoughts

It always feels that when the last international break is played in the season the title race is well and truly on. This is certainly the case this year with the Premier League taking shape with the two giants of the past few seasons, Liverpool and Manchester City once again about to do battle to see if they can pick up the Premier League.

So, with both sides having played all the same games and just one point separating them who will prosper and retain or steal the title?

Manchester City

Currently in the first place, as of now, but I am sure we can expect some twists and turns. It has once again been a great season so far for Pep Guardiola and his men. They have only lost 3 games all season and conceded the least amount of goals than any other side in the top five leagues in Europe.

Manchester City has been imperious this season against most sides including rolling over Manchester United twice, beating both Arsenal and Chelsea twice as well. The slick attack is always backed up by a solid defense.

However, there have been slip-ups when they need their form to be perfect. The capitulation to Spurs and drawing a blank against Crystal Palace could come back to haunt them at the end of the season.

Liverpool

Perfect, simply perfect recently. Since the turn of the year, they have dropped just two points as they drew with Chelsea on 2nd January. Liverpool saw what City did and have just piled the pressure on them immensely. Manager Jurgen Klopp used the January transfer window well and weathered a tough time losing his two key players to AFCON.

It is hard to see past Liverpool making it 20 league titles this season, even if they are in 2nd place, just one point separates them and their form has been so much better. However, the 10th of April could prove crucial.

Head to head

As well as meeting each other in the FA Cup semifinal, Liverpool and City still have to play each other in the league with many calling it the title decider. It might be a little too early with still seven games to go but it would be a huge momentum booster for either side.

With a draw earlier in the season, it does not help with which side will come out on top but the game will be played in front of the Etihad crowd who will be hoping they can be the 12th man. Those unable to make the game will be using new sports betting apps and watching on in anticipation of this must-watch game.

Who will do it?

It is hard to make any firm prediction with both sides such a joy to watch but there is still a lot of football to play for. Both sides are on for a treble, and Liverpool is even one for a quadruple, however, only one will prosper in the league. With current form and playing ability, Liverpool might just edge it in the league but there is nothing to say that Liverpool cannot pick up all four trophies creating history!
