Brighton & Hove Albion have developed a reputation for signing young players for bargain fees and making outrageous profits on them further down the line. Australian attacking midfielder Cameron Peupion is among a plethora of Brighton academy products who who has been tipped for big things, although he has yet to force his way into the first team.<\/p>\n

Peupion joined Brighton\u2019s academy from Sydney FC II in 2020 and progressed through the youth ranks before earning his first loan move to Cheltenham Town. Things did not quite work out for the youngster in Gloucestershire, as his loan spell was cut short after only six months, but he is finally hitting his stride with Brighton\u2019s Under-21.<\/p>\n

Brighton Face a Tough Decision on Peupion\u2019s Future<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Brighton are not in the business of letting talented players leave without pocketing a significant return on investment, but Peupion\u2019s situation leaves them with a difficult decision to make.<\/p>\n

The Aussie is in the final six months of his contract with the Seagulls, and he is free to sign a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club if they come calling.<\/p>\n

Peupion could not have picked a worse time to hit his stride from Brighton\u2019s point of view. He had just one assist to his name in 13 appearances across all competitions last season.<\/p>\n

However, his resurgence now leaves the Seagulls stuck between a rock and a hard place. His current form may be a springboard to greatness, or could just be a purple patch.<\/p>\n

Handing him a new long-term contract based on his current form is a huge gamble, but so is letting him walk without receiving a penny, especially if he goes on to excel elsewhere.<\/p>\n

If he continues to improve this season, Brighton will likely tie him down to a new deal, but that wouldn\u2019t completely rule out a summer exit or even a move this month.<\/p>\n

A Potential Return to Australia in the Summer<\/h2>\n

Peupion came close to a loan exit last summer, but nothing materialised, and he\u2019s determined to grab that opportunity this month.<\/p>\n

\u201cI’ve been around under-21s football for the last three years now, so I know it well,\u201d Peupion said in November last year.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt’s important for me to try and get goals and assists and to perform well so that when my chance comes to play first-team football, I’m ready, fit and good to go.\u201d<\/p>\n

Brighton are unlikely to sanction a loan move without extending his contract, but if both parties can iron out the fine details, a return to Australia might not be the worst idea.<\/p>\n

His former club, Sydney FC, will undoubtedly welcome him back with open arms, and he would strengthen their odds of making the A-League play-offs.<\/p>\n

Aussie punters who use PayPal betting sites<\/u><\/a>\u00a0would be clamouring to back Sydney to be successful this season if Peupion returns to the club in January.<\/p>\n

Peupion hasn\u2019t convinced Brighton that he has what it takes to perform at the highest level, so another decent option for the wantaway attacking midfielder is a move to the Championship.<\/p>\n

There is no better platform for the Aussie star to prove his mettle, and a successful loan stint in the second tier could put him on the radar of Premier League clubs.<\/p>\n

Blackburn Rovers may be able to provide Peupion with a good landing spot, given their recent history of snapping up players from Brighton on loan.<\/p>\n

Peupion is versatile enough to feature in several attacking positions, which would come in handy for Rovers. They are in the market for attackers<\/u><\/a>\u00a0to strengthen their chances of making the Championship play-offs, and Peupion could be the answer based on his current form.<\/p>\n

An initial loan deal with a view to earning a permanent move in the summer would benefit all parties, as Rovers would be able to settle his thirst for regular first-team football.<\/p>\n
