Pleased to announce that recently we negotiated the sale of thefootballforum.net domain, after initial failed negotiations in January. The domain is now in our possession, and we will shortly do a permanent 301 redirect to 1FF, once Google picks up the change.
FAQ's

Why is this worthwhile?
Whilst the amount of traffic thefootballforum.net still receives is relatively small compared to what it used to be, this is not the primary reason we purchased it. The domain is over 12 years old and is still linked to from thousands of websites. Effectively, what we are doing when we redirect the domain is telling Google that TFF has 'moved' to a new domain, onefootballforum.co.uk. The SEO benefits are absolutely huge and it will cement us at the top of Google search for a variety of terms.

WTF is this! It still directs to some spammy offer for me!!!
Propogation for thefootballforum.net over to our nameservers is not yet fully complete. That means some of you will see the onefootballforum.co.uk holding page I've put up already - but some of you may have to wait a further 6-12 hours to see the domain on our server. Sit tight.

For those of you who can't see thefootballforum.net yet- this is what you're greeted with:

Question, is there now any way to recover old threads from the website?

This is great news though, will only help us grow larger and a lot quicker considering how many links it'll have. Well done on getting it bought, didn't think you would have had a chance.

Sadly not, they were unwilling to sell the database.

The reasoning behind the purchase without question is the additional exposure it will provide us with. We should begin to feel the effects within a few days.

When you signed up to TFF, you agreed to terms and conditions that your data would never be used again or sold on down the line. They break that, for whatever reason, they are in the turd. Just one of them things.

Hopefully a few others are still searching out there.

Some threads are recoverable....I've saved quite a few, including the Mansfield tinpot promotion one, minus four or five pictures that had been hosted on the TFF server rather than being linked from an external host, but 90% of it is there.

If you can get a list of the most visited or linked to pages you should 301 redirect each one to the most relevant place. Good work though :)

That comment by departed user was my all time favorite on TFF!
The one about the Dog going to war??

Very funny at the time. Infact the whole thread was a classic.

I actually fully intended do a nice illustration of a graveyard to mark the end of TFF. If I ever get round to and you like it, you're more than weclome to use it on this page. Here was the note I drew on my phone to remind myself to start work on it...

I'm a technophobe - so this may sound ridiculous, but...

Is it only the domain name that you've got, or will it 'feel' a bit like TFF in terms of layout and how you write posts?

It just means that we put a link to this place on the www.thefootballforum.net's home page...we don't get anything from the website itself, that software/database/forum is completly dead and can't be reversed as such. So nothing will aesthetically change, bar us pushing any traffic searching for the old TFF website here...and using any rankings/backlinks/authority it made within Google.

Just to echo what Rad said above, the main benefits will come within the next few days when we permanently redirect thefootballforum.net to onefootballforum.co.uk (instead of just linking to use via the holding page which currently displays.

At that point, all authority that thefootballforum.net had is transferred to us. Good news for the search engines

Good stuff.

Hopefully a few stragglers from TFF will sign up, but we did well to reach out to as many as we did in the first place.

Interesting to see the TFF domain has instantly bounced back to ranking top 4 for both 'football forum' and 'football forums' , despite it only being a one page holding page. Good news.
