Firstly, apologies for that dreadful thread title, it's all I could make up.

First of two home league games for us, having won 2 on the bounce on the road. We'll still be without Jabo for this one, though he could return against Exeter the week after.
Gillead isn't an option either, having joined up with the England U20's this week.

Morecambe, on the other hand, haven't won in 4 games (0-1-3) following a decent start to the season. The Shrimps currently sit 14th in the League, 5pts behind Carlisle who remain 8th.

I hope Curle brings another forward in before the weekend, we currently have just 2 fit 'natural' strikers at our disposal - Asamoah and Rigg - though the former hasn't been overly involved thus far.

Curle might stick with the same XI for 3 consecutive games, though I expect one or two changes considering we're at home.

Hopefully Morecambe bring a few up, we've not had many away fans this season so far, so would welcome an improved atmosphere.

It'll be a tough game no doubt, but I think we are capable of getting our 3rd home win.

Awful thread title made even worse by:
a) it's at Brunton Park so if anything it should be Wyke & Morecambe
b) Charlie Wyke won't even be involved

Also you got your formers and latters mixed up. Did they teach you nowt at school?

:emb::sad:

Last time I make a match thread on here, c*** :err:
only people who don't get behind the club are c***

Maybe he was directing his message at the 7 teams above us in the table, angry at Mansfield for not doing the decent thing and dropping points so we could go above them... everyone get behind us cos we're gonna p**s this tinpot league.

Well we come off 2 very unexpected wins, I as I said before the Newport game expected us on a bad run, so at least the last week shows Curle has brought some character into the club, I expected us to struggle post-Liverpool with tougher fixtures.

that being said we surely need another forward before sat, 4-5-1 at home is what murdered the crowd afew years ago and I don't see our fans accepting it in any way, shape or form at home.

granted he could play Rigg/Asamoah, but he doesn't seem to rate Rigg so i'd expected a short-term signing to at least give a 2 up front option.

We could put Osei up front, or even Balanta.

Charlie Wyke is back in training, but I think this weekend is too soon. I reckon Curle might not sign a striker and make do for the weekend, considering next weekend we'll probably have Wyke, Ibehre and Gilliead all available.

Gillead is gone for 20 days or so I thought? Might be wrong but I'm pretty sure he wouldn't be back for next weekend - this is assuming that we even get the extension tied up, if he does well for the U20s he could well end up at a League 1 club.

10 days according to Curle. Their final game is on Tuesday the 13th. So he could be back for the Exeter match if his loan gets extended.

Gilliead himself has said he hopes an extension will be signed and sealed by the time he's back from international

He's looked good so far, wouldn't be surprised to see him do well for the U20s at which point we might struggle to keep him. He's 19 and if he's got any aspirations of playing for Newcastle he should probably be looking to step up the leagues as soon as he's ready. I'd love him back, chances are it will happen alongside Gillesphey but there'll no doubt be plenty of scouts at an U20 game so we'll see.

I think Morecambe are well overdue a win against us. I can't remember ever losing to them even in our conference season. They'll be confident after their midweek away win at Bury and we'll be complacent and toothless.

looking like no new forward so will be a 3-6-1 formation...........that has to be a new one for this division............has anyone else tried 3-6-1 before??

On a positive I am glad the last couple of games Grainger is now ont he left wing and not in defence (or sounded that way) he is an awful central defender, but since I never seen him last season so look at him fresh I like him because his ability with the ball is I think better than anyone else in our team so its the best place to use him and adds balance.

the entire effect of playing 3-6-1 is going to be through that central midfield 4 and their movement or lack of.......if they move about a lot and 2 of them at least support the attack in the box it could work, if they plod around the centre and leave the attack exposed we'll struggle.

it has to be turned from a counter-formation to an offensive one.

We've not really played them much, think we've only played four league games against them. We won at Morecambe on boxing day last year but the others were all draws. 11v11 also shows us putting them out of the JPT twice (both times requiring penalties) and the FA cup once (after a replay)... There's no record of such a tinpot competition online that I can find but didn't they put us out of the Conference Cup way back when?

All I hope is that if we do win, the players don't go out on the lash again.

Where are the Morecambe fans by the way?

We seem to have played morecambe about 20 odd times since we first played them back in 2005, it is bizarre had never been to Morecambe for a match until that boxing day and now its about my most visited away day.

and the strange part is games ALWAYS seemed to be at Morecambe, although some are friendlies I suppose.

I think we did play them in conf cup.....wee Brendan McGill missed a pen if I remember to lose a shoot-out.

I do like the morecambe games I must admit.

i don't know about the conference cup, but yeah i suppose you remember the cup games as wins even if they were on pens. We just don't seem to lose to them. That has to end soon surely and it would be typical Carlisle United that we finally lose to them when we're actually looking like having a decent season.

We'll win 2 tough away games, draw at Anfield, but lose to the likes of Newport at home and Morecambe (who we never lose to). It's just the way things go.

As it's 3-3-4 when we have 2 strikers (at home), won't it now become a 3-4-3 rather than a 3-6-1?

I'll guess 3-5-1-1:
Gillespie

Archibald-Henville
Raynes
Gillesphey

Miller
Joyce
Dicker
Hery
Grainger

Balanta

Asamoah

Curle might go with the 6 in midfield and swap Kennedy for Balanta, or he may play 2 up top and drop Balanta for Rigg. In all honesty, I don't really know.

3-1 home win. Asamoah, Hery x2.

I reckon the team will be this, with a rare start for Steven Rigg.

Gillespie
Miller Raynes Gillesphey
Joyce
Hery Kennedy
McQueen Asamoah Rigg Grainger

I've just had a quick scan over Morecambe's results. They haven't lost away from home since the opening game of the season where they were slayed by Rakish.

Since then they've picked up results at Oxford, Portsmouth and just the other night won at Bury to end their run of 7 straight wins.

Make no mistake about it, we are going to have to be bang on top of our game to stand a chance of taking anything from this match.

We're 6 places above them in the league and have had a pretty good cup experience of our own already this season, and we've also got good home form if you excuse the post-Anfield Newport game. I wouldn't say we have to be on top of our game just to get a draw here, put in another good defensive performance and grab one or two goals and we should be able to win it. My team would be:

Gillespie
Atkinson Raynes Gillesphey
Miller Dicker Hery Joyce Grainger
Asamoah Rigg

I think it's safe to say our form has been away of late. We were OK against Dagenham, but poor against Newport and Barnet. I don't think Morecambe will let us get away with being so poor tomorrow, so yeah we have to step our home performance up if we want to get anything tomorrow.

Would you say Morecambe are favourites for this then?

I think theyll win but that's mainly because they are well overdue a win. Favourites? Na, we're in better form. But I think we'll need to improve from our recent home performances to get a result.
