I am reading Animal Farm at the moment. Really good so far, I can't believe I've waited this long to read it.

My copy of The World of Ice and Fire finally arrived the other day so I'm working my way through that in between Lee Child's Jack Reacher series.

I don't mean to be a pain in the backside but I'd like it if we could have a books subforum.

I PMed Saddlerad asking for it.

Do we really need one. Even on old TFF it'd have had about 3 threads in there.

Dunno. Was just asking.

Anyway, it goes without saying that I will resume the top 100 books.

Has Oaf joined yet?

Bought two books today as it 'appens.

For Whom The Bell Tolls, by one Ernest Hemingway. I've never read any Hemingway but being a writer and that his work is always summat you're told you should read and learn from stylistically, even if what you're learning is don't write like Hemingway, so I'll have half an eye that as I go through it. Seems okay so far mind, seven pages in.

The other one was Yes Man by Danny Wallace, whose book Join Me is the funniest book I've ever read so I picked this one up too when I saw it. Couldn't really say no.

Reading Edison's Conquest of Mars. It's meant to be a sequel to H G Well's The War of the Worlds but by a different author. Edison leads a force of humans to kill the martians with strange electric weapons he's invented.

I've recently finished Saving the Test, a book concerning the travails of test cricket and its threats (T20, match fixing, DSR). It was quite enjoyable as I know very little about cricket.

Currently listening to One Summer: America 1927 by Bill Bryson on commute. I enjoy Bryson's view on the world and the way he presents his material. Far from his best but I've found the pieces on Charles Linbergh (first man to fly the Atlantic) fascinating.

Starting reading Flaubert's Parrot by Julian Barnes but am only a few pages in. I remember enjoying Sense of an Ending by the same author, but can remember very little about it.

Just started reading The Rabbit Back Literature Society by Jaaskelainen.

It's a strange fantasy/fable story that I've seen described as "If David Lynch met The Brothers Grimm". Bizarre at times but quite addictive. Only only 30 or so pages in so I'll report back later!

Although it's for University, currently reading New Grub Street which I'm quite enjoying. Also been through Mary Barton which I also surprisingly enjoyed other than the horrible ending.

This thread feels wrong without my name attached to it. Jockers, you sod.

Anywho, I'm reading The Bible, The Quran and the Complete Works of H.P. Lovecraft. Never bothered reading more than one thing at once before, but having a Kindle makes things like that so much easier, and besides, these holy books are tedious as hell, and breaking it up with mind-boggling cosmic horror makes soldiering on with them bearable.

im reading this thred lol

Also, Philip Short's book on Pol Pot and A House For Mr. Biswas by V.S. Naipaul. The latter is brilliant and the Pol Pot one is interesting but both are really quite long. I can't remember reading anything else.

I just finished ORDINARY THUNDERSTORMS by WILLIAM BOYD. It's about a chap, right, who gets caught up in a murder investigation (wrong place, wrong time) and has to go off the grid in London. It's what they call a 'page turner' I think (lol isn't every book that? wtf). I found it to be acceptable and read all the way to the end (!)

The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman.

Brilliant short story that beautifully constructs a period of inequality through the metaphor of a woman descending into madness.

Fortune of the Rougons. Always wanted to read the whole series since reading Germinal years ago. Difficult getting into it though.

Still reading Maribou Stork Nightmares, not had a chance to read it for a while, should hopefully finish it this week. I love the world and characters that pop up across Irvine Welsh's books, linking all the books together

I read that a couple of years ago, just unlike any other book ever. I can't remember if I ended up liking it, but I think it was better than Sex Lives of Siamese Twins, which I was DEEPLY disappointed by (No sexing).

I'm reading One Hundred Years of Solitude, should finish it in bed later. Enjoying it.

I'm going on holiday on Thursday, and got some long flights / days on the beach, so going to take a few books with me, "De que hablo cuando hablo de correr" (what i talk about when i talk about running) Haruki Murakami, "El padrino" (the godfather) Mario Puzi and Great White Shark, Hunter S Thompson. Should keep me busy and confused.

Finished The Waste Lands last night. Brilliant read, the most I've enjoyed a book in quite a while and easily the best Dark Tower book thus far in my opinion.

Oy is awesome. I was shitting myself when they were crossing that bridge.

Why has this series not been made into a movie/TV series yet? I'm sure it'd be awesome.

There is meant to be a movie or something coming out but it has been that way for ages and never seems to get any closer to actually being a reality.

Yeah, I have looked it up quite a bit. There was talk of going it as both movies and a TV show...

Also, it seems like EVERYBODY wants Eddie to be played by Aaron Paul. Can't say I disagree with that choice.

Currently finishing the last chapter in book 4 of the Game of Thrones set. This has been the hardest to read so far IMO with the first three quarters of the book being very tame, things have just started to heat back up and I'm looking forward to book 5 now. Hopefully I can get that finished before the TV series starts again, I'm not a big reader!

The first half of the fifth book is like the fourth. Dry with not a lot happening. It does really begin to pick up again as it gets going and you definitely get the feeling that everything is starting to come together after 4 and a half books of the finale looking further and further away.

I'd forgotten about Oy, what a legend! I might read those books again soon. I've got 4 of them but I loaned the others.

I finished Animal Farm yesterday and it was brilliant. Worth reading.

Think I'm going to move on with The Blade Itself trilogy. I can't remember the proper name for the series.
