The Football League will cancel their season.

We'll be given a date to resume football and everybody will want and need to start up again ASAP. We'll need to know who's in what division for fixures, administration etc. The Conference maybe fucked up but the Football League aren't going to wait to see who wins a National League play off system to get football back underway. Told we can all play in August, they're not waiting around for the National League Play Offs. They'll want to get going and it will give no time for any Play Off Completion.
No chance of an August resumption of football.
Huge crowds will not be allowed till end of year at least.
If no crowds allowed, how will clubs pay their players etc
Not going to happen.

First weekend in September is the pencilled in date for SOS.

The aim is still to get everything wrapped up by July 31st. I think that's ambitious, but so are the PL/FL ambitions to resume play early June.

It will all be behind closed doors without doubt, including UK Racing, Bundesliga, Serie A etc all of which look set to return at some point in May

Given the current climate, I really think the National League have to be very careful here. Well over half the clubs in League Two minimum will capitalise on any opportunity they get to change 2 up 2 down to 1 up 1 down, so I implore them, for the sake of their competition, to think rationally and not throw a tantrum because the playoffs this season might be scrapped. Because a void season could see them permanently scrapped which will ruin future TV coverage deals and any marketability of this league in the long term.

Promote Barrow at the very least. And if Stevenage are deservedly relegated? Then promote Harrogate too.

With how easily this virus spreads, letting thousands of people into stadiums where its not possible to enforce social distancing would be a disaster. Specially when you considering the amount of old and at risk people who go to these games.

Unless they made everyone wear masks, I just can't see fans being allowed into stadiums anytime soon.

I don't disagree but when the government say that some social distancing will remain in place until we have a vaccine, they don't necessarily mean that we will all have to keep 2 metres apart in all places at all times.

Schools will be one of the first to reopen and there you've got gatherings of up to about 2000, so there will be a threshold somewhere. The question is whether the threshold will be high enough to allow games to be played or not. I think it will be high enough to allow football to be played at some level by autumn, whether that will incorporate the NL we don't know.

I think there is a strong possibility that face coverings (not necessarily masks) will be made compulsory once lockdown restrictions are relaxed.

Will Harrogate be allowed in though? I think there's a real possibility that they think the EFL will blink first on the 3G issue but I can't see any sign of that.

I thought Harrogate have said they'd change the pitch? I'm pretty sure that has to be confirmed at the beginning of the season.

I was told that they have to agree at the start of the season to rip up the pitch upon promotion. But I did raise the point that what if the economic situation meant that they no longer wish to do that?

There was a vote a few years back on 3G pitches in the EFL. I'm sure most in League Two and even a few in League One were actually in favour of introducing them. But the Championship teams were heavily opposed so it never got off the ground.

I just hope for the NLs future they don't void the season because I seriously think L2 clubs will do anything to keep their league status now the effects of dropping into NL are far worse than they were back when 2 up 2 down was introduced in 2002-03.

Agreed with both your posts on the issue;- the NL in general and Notts in particular could score a massive own goal by voiding the season - 1 up 1 down would ruin a lot of teams chances of ever getting out of the NL.... at present in a normal season finishing in the top 7 gives you a fighting change - 1 up 1 down reduces that 7 chances to 1.

If that’s their thinking isn’t there a decent chance they’ll try to scrap 2 up 2 down whatever the NL do?

If the EFL’s priority is to get back to 72 clubs it seems the likeliest thing they’re going to do is to ‘reprieve‘ Stevenage and promote Barrow. Tough on us and the others, but I can see the logic. If it wasn’t for Bury, no one would have gone up, but Barrow get lucky.

I‘d have a massive problem with Harrogate going up automatically though, they’re not in an automatic position as it was understood to be at the start of the season. Playoffs are the only fair option if two teams are to be promoted from the NL, as soon as they can be played.

I have an idea an arena in the woods somewhere. A player from each club. One ball. One hidden goal.
First to score goes up.

IF the PL doesn't restart again it's likely to expand to 22 teams - the knock on effect of which would mean the top 3 probably going up - on a straight PPG Notts finish 3rd... but on separate home and away PPG Notts only finish 5th... with Boreham Wood being 3rd

That may mean no non-league football for another six months after play offs decided

No appetite for behind closed doors matches in National League. For vast majority, doesn’t make any financial sense

I would anything Ollie Holt say with a pinch of salt. He's a sensationalist who just wants to stir up controversy.

Yes I have. It was by far the worst place I visited in Italy. Shit food, shit all over the streets, rip off at every corner. Nuke it I say.

Sounds like you went to all the wrong places there. That's unfortunate.

Agree with the take on Ollie Holt. The man is vile and not to be trusted. Possibly the worst of all the hacks along with Dan Roan.

My personal view is that only Barrow should be promoted, which would reprieve Stevenage despite how poor they've been all season. And that League Two should temporarily run with a 22 team season for one year.

However, if relegation on PPG does become a thing, then this opens the door for Harrogate. I agree, I believe 2nd shouldn't go up automatically. I believe that, given the exceptional circumstances, only Barrow should be promoted with playoffs scrapped. But the league wants 92 clubs next season. And it'll get 92 clubs. Any voiding of the season could cause future editions of the Conference to be limited to one promotion place. And even if the season was voided? I can still see the EFL inviting Barrow to join the league.

The EFL won't declare a void season and neither will the PL. Void ruins the hard work of those at the very top whilst saving the dregs at the bottom. The compromise solution of promotion and no relegation is the only feasible solution to this. Sure, it affects playoff sides. But 5 out of 6 of those in the NL wouldn't have gone up anyway.

I think many will realise the significant drawbacks of voting void and vote to end on PPG. Whether relegation is enacted or not though will depend entirely on what the FL do.

Out of interest what is wrong with Dan Roan?

The problem with having any post-season play-off games is that teams will have lost loads of players and it prolongs the uncertainty - the two main reasons why this vote was even taken. Despite Notts saying they are going to keep their players training, I really can't see that being an option.

it would only be an option if sport started again in the next week or so - it's unlikely to happen in the next 6 months...

Neil Custis is the worst sports journalist by far: thick as fuck, awful writer, and a hilariously entertaining grudge against The Athletic for hiring all his peers except him.
