We had Hearn vs Green and we all loved it so here we go again.

Simple question, which away day is better Grimsby or Mansfield?

PLEASE NOTE: Your vote will only count if you give a reason and no Grimsby or Mansfield fans votes count.

Got battered by Nottinghamshire’s Finest Boys in Blue when they waded into us with truncheons when we won the Div 4 title under Lou Macari. During the Miner’s Strike and were probably practising.

So, it’s Grimsby for me.

LIVE SCORE TRACKER: 3-0 to Grimsby

2mins: Indian Dan with a superb curler from the edge of the box to open the scoring

5mins: F-I-R-T-H-Y hits a screamer from the edge of the area as The Stags are looking shell shocked

11mins: Is it New Year's Day 2011? Because we could be on for another spanking here as meanderson taps his vote home from 3 yards out

18: Finally some joy for the hapless Stags as Tubthumper runs through the heart of the Mariners defence and coolly slots home to make it 3-1...OH! BUT WHAT'S THIS? The ref has signaled that it will go to VAR for an infringement, I wonder what happened here? Well, the VAR check is over and the referee has indicated that Tubthumper is a Mansfield fan. GOAL DISALLOWED. The jubilant Grimsby fans give wanker signs to the poor Stags. Stringy is crying.

Never been to either so this is difficult for me to judge. I will go for Grimsby (Cleethorpes) as I live so far from the sea that seeing it is a bit of a novelty and I reckon there is a fair chance of getting some decent fish and chips to sustain me through the game. Clearly I haven't a clue what culinary delights are available in Mansfield so there is no real draw for me to go there.

Both are quality in their own way tbf. Mansfield is easier to get too, decent pub wise and smells a bit better but Grimsby pubs are a good laugh plus if you're lucky you might get to watch someone stick a firework up their arse and light it. Plus the fish and chips are quality (obviously). Blundell Park is a bit run down but decent atmosphere whereas Mansfield has only got three proper sides. On the flip side you can get shots behind the away stand at Mansfield, pour them in your cup of coffee and take it in view of the pitch.

AFC Cleethorpes for me. I like that ballroom on the pier where they do a decent pie and chips.

Grimsby for me too. Never had a good away day out in Mansfield, although to be fair the last time I visited Field Mill everybody was wearing National Coal Board donkey jackets and sporting Noddy Holder style haircuts (even the women). Every body wanted to fight you if you didn’t look like a local and it was a nightmare of a place to get to by public transport!

Just been in touch with Dominic Cummings, and he’s told me to promise that anybody who votes Mansfield will have £3.50 left behind the bar in the railway pub for the next time they visit. Maybe.

While I have the chance, Grimsby culinary delight isn’t fresh fish and chips, it’s captains birds eye yellowsole in batter (20 mins in oven) and crinkle cut chips frozen (20 mins in oven) so let’s put that myth to bed!

We always take a good following to Grimsby, just glad Clive Mendonca isn't still playing :)

Grimsby for me too. As a Wirral lad grew up near the sea, though not been there for 6 months now. Fish was good, though get better chips at home or in S Wales. Never seen Rovers lose there either, my first visit was a 0-0 when we finished with 9 men.

The Mansfield away end is far better in terms of view and facilities. You can't see half the pitch from the back of Grimsby's.

Have been both but not for a long time, Grimsby was a 2-1 victory on a boiling hot day in August 2003, probably made it feel more pleasant than it would have been had it been January or had we performed as we have the last couple of times there!

Mansfield was a year earlier in a big League One relegation battle when John Durnin/Keith Curle OG was the difference, think it was the OG in the end...

So hard to judge on both being 17 years ago, although think both grounds are the same as they were then!

Grimsby seems a mixed bag with our fans taking numbers, Mansfield though is surprisingly poor although did take just under 1000 on Boxing Day, but usually we take 1200-1500 to Notts/Chesterfield whereas aside from last season we have generally taken around 500 to Mansfield so it seems far less popular then other sides in the region which is surprising given it is a ground we have rarely visited in recent decades.

I would have thought Mansfield would have won hands down.

a really good lunch time session in Nottingham, then jump on the 230pm train jump off the train at five to three and walk across the retail car park into the away end.

Yeah just had a look at some who have voted, ie those who last attended in the miners strike, or a chesterfield fan. This vote definitely didn’t go the way it was intended too!

Being a Rotherham fan I have not come across too much hospitality at either venue, maybe because we have a decent record at both grounds.
Grimsby win because it's a day out at the coast, but Mansfield's away end is better.

Brilliant. A really good away in Mansfield is actually spending most of the day in Nottingham.
I wouldn’t apply for a job in selling The Mansfield dream anytime soon.

HELP!! Somebody call ambulances for Adam Stag and Conker. They are dying of a severe case of being wrong once again.

Not really a problem for the usual 700 or so that you bring.

NEVER!!

I actually think all considered it went pretty well, actually, the more respected forum members voted Mansfield. We was never getting Spire1866 vote, or yourself for that matter, and Mansfield are never, ever winning a poll in their favour on this forum. Good fun though!

Curzon Ashton....and Carlisle
Mansfield is the only ground I think (excluding non segregated grounds) where I have seen Carlisle as an away fan from all four sides which has to be quite unique. The away season was in the main stand (paddock in front) in 1995, then that open terrace in 1997, they used to use that little side stand in 2000-2002 and the other end in 2006.

has my vote for the uniqueness of changing away end every few years

Been to Mansfield twice - won 2012 and lost 2020. Not been to Grimsby but struggling to envisage anywhere worse than Mansfield as a football away day and that includes dozens of shitholes during the wilderness years. Bilston maybe. Off topic but done the four sides segregated thing at FGR.

Roger Stone having a pop at Mansfield. Fuck me, reckon you’ll ever grow out of it?

You can think Grimsby is better, fine - but Mansfield is definitely not a shit away day, hence you are pretty much the first to say that (so far:bg:)

Explain why? Obviously Mansfield, centrally is not up to much to say the least, but the away end is good for the level, not a bad view, it’s near plenty of good pubs, 5 minutes from train station, easy enough on the road too.

BTW if Mansfield is soul destroying I dread to think what Newport could be described as:bl:
