Surely a game of this stature, at the same level as Celtic v Rangers, deserves it's own thread...
I'm expecting us to lose so hoping the match gets buried in this thread and we all forget about it

Arguably the game of the weekend in L2, Cheltenham v Port Vale with both sides on unbeaten runs and have shared 9 wins out of 12 between them in recent weeks.

A win for Vale would strengthen our hand in the play off battle whilst Cheltenham are looking to push into the auto's.

Tricky one as their home record is superb but we do have the caveat of already winning there (3-1) in the FA Cup. Although we've only won 5 away, 3 of those (Bradford, Crewe and Northampton) were ones which blotted sides superb home form (plus the aforementioned cup win!)

Think we will get a draw 1-1 in this. Pope and Varney.
Can we pay on the day now as I may be able go?

Not seen anything announced but would assume they’d sell you a ticket as it’s far from sold out. Might be worth giving Cheltenham a call in the morning before setting off though to be sure.

Can't see Vale winning tomorrow. Cheltenham very strong at home and we've had a couple of patchy performances since Colchester at home. The two home games after are where we should be targeting 4-6 points really, so tomorrow is a free hit in many ways.

Cheltenham seem to have become a good side from nowhere. Didn't they struggle for much of last season? I can't envisage that they have a massive budget either.

We started poorly but our form from mid-December was playoff form for the most part. We only lost once at home in the second half of last season but struggled away from home. This season continued in that vain, but then we started winning away as well. Our defensive record is phenomenal, especially when considering how poor we look at the back at times.

Regarding the ticket office - I'll be amazed if anyone answers a call before 12ish, probably best to send a tweet to the Twitter page as they'll be more likely to respond.

It’s always the “games I can’t see us winning” that we have been winning! Recall the fans panicking that Crewe would hit us for 4 or 5 and Bradford being a free hit so I’m hoping it’s one of them! Big ask but a point would be ok with two home games to follow...

They struggled then picked up similar to Crewe around the latter half of the season and seem to have gone on from there. Oddly in the two games we’ve played against them they’ve looked defensively fragile and our wingers had plenty of joy (think they play a back three which suits us) yet their actual defensive record is the best in the division! Pope missed a hatful at VP hence I’d be starting him tomorrow!

We only sold 500 odd tickets so surely they will let us pay on the day. Originally they did say no pay on the day available. I think they were expecting us sell out the 1400 allocation which most vale fans on here knew that was never going happen.

Clubs over reacted after the Walsall and Man City ticket issues, many couldn’t get them Saturday at the game as was only ST holders etc, should of just had them general sale and POTD and would probably have added more to the following, was 533 this morning sold so assume about 575-600 so I’d Pay on Day should add a few on on.

That said the fact that’s all we have to moan about shows the massive change from this time 12 months ago!

Given you've been allocated some of the Colin Farmer as well as the Hazlewoods, and you've so far only sold half of the Hazlewoods, I'll be amazed if tickets aren't on sale on the day.

Pope only on the bench for Vale - just need to make sure we're three or four up before he comes on and we should be alright.

I’d have played him. No Tozer so that’s the long throw less to worry about. Clarke in for Monty is ok.

I am lost for words with that refereeing performance.

How Waterfall didn't walk in the first half is mental, Sutton then puts in an identical tackle as is rightly shown a red card. I don't think I've ever seen something that bad.

A couple of scumthorpe fans giving it large on the fishy in the last few days will be going home with their tails firmly between their legs.

The way this game has started doubt it will finish 0-0. Both teams have been lively so far.

Lively game, Vale the better side but we look dangerous too. Vale had a pen given then rightly chalked off by the lino - no way in a million years that was a pen. Great atmosphere

Referee booed off, he gives us a penalty that he’s less than ten yards from, goes to the linesman and over rules it yet he is the opposite side of the pitch!

Seems to give Cheltenham every little decision so it’s been mostly them lumping a set piece and us defending it.

We’ve played ok, been fairly solid and hit the cross bar.

They like the diagonal so we’ve got to be aware of that but deservedly level and can probably feel a bit frustrated with the official.

Two decent sides in fairness.

Understand the argument that the lino was further away but it was the right decision to overturn it.

It likely wasn’t but it’s the kind of thing that opposite way goes against us every time!

Your delivery is the best in the league, got to keep switched on in the middle.

Amoo is a funny one! Wish he would just shoot, if the games starts to drift hopefully the Pontiff gets on.

Swindon out the blocks like you'd expect, then two good moves and second one gets a bullet finish from Ebou :D Then they hit the woodwork again after another fine move. Might be our day.

Famous last words then. Really good effort from Vale against a very decent side. Point is good enough so long as we capitalise next time out.

Well deserved that, Swindon unlucky that their good moves hit the woodwork or came off the line but we made two good goals and plenty of decent chances in a sound away showing. Stayed solid when they came on strong later too and frustrated them out their stride.

Disappointed to draw that, if the first half decision wasn’t the second half was a stone Waller not given and Pope missed a sitter at the death.

All kicked off at the end as Alfie May studded Clark as the final whistle went so may be repercussions there. He’s made a swift exit when Popey caught up with him!

Decent performance but one we probably should of nicked on the day and with a half competent referee we probably would.

Out the top 7 by a point but two home games now.

What a curious approach to football Northampton have.

Terrible ref all round in fairness, but after the red and the penalty the result looked safe.

No complaints. Hammered by a bigger, stronger, faster team in Colchester.
