I saw that too. Not sure a) the PL will play the games b) I trust the PL c) will it be enough by the time it trickles down - the real risk is the championship not us, d) I don’t trust the PL.
Yeah I mean the money we need down here is a lot... not a lot by Premier League standards but orders of magnitude greater that their usual handouts, and usually because of the positive media coverage they give themselves they think that a couple of million to be shared between the whole division is some kind of enormously generous gesture.

I worked out previously during this lockdown that for the amount one of the big clubs might gamble during the transfer window in the, usually vain, hope of bringing home silverware or Champions League qualification they could pay the entire running costs of every team in this division for a year... there or thereabouts.

Interesting - do you know something we don't?
I just think you're spending beyond your means. Alfie May coming in in Jan on crowds of less than 3,500?

Grimsby are such as MASSIVE™ club that anyone doing better than them must be there due to shady financial dealines.
You've got your L2 jokes mixed up, it's Bradford that we do that one to.

Harry McKirdy released by Carlisle.

Someone could get themselves a cracking little player if they can sort his attitude and unlikeable personality out.

He winds up opposing fans but I can't say he has a wider attitude problem.

Why does he wear kids sized shorts?

Sure he was the little shit who cowardly tried to throw Whitfield over the concrete hoardings at Crewe which nearly caused even more trouble!

Can't speak for what he got up to at Crewe but I always find when slight players try and get physical they're accused of being cowardly when a big unit doing the exact same thing is just being physically dominating.

I don't know why he wears such tiny shorts but it's up to him. I shan't tell you why some of his detractors both among the home and away fans thought he wore them, but needless to say they vociferously disapproved and the end result was a warning issued to fans on conduct before home games.

I'd take McKirdy back here, doubt he's a player we would be looking at unless we lose a few of our own. Were pretty well stocked for wingers in Kirk, Powell, Ainley and Dale.

The vast majority of those who stand near me in the WRE never had a problem with him and the few that did disliked him for entirely the wrong reasons. Maybe was different in the paddock with the moaners.

a few contributing factors imo.
Don’t think he particularly liked the trek up here.
His best mate Byron was hated and getting a lot of stick for the first half of the season. That probably gave him a judgement of the fan base.
Anytime the team got booed off it was always Mckirdy that couldn’t resist giving some sort of reaction as he went down the tunnel.
Then he fell out with fans on social media. Then there was the refusing to celebrate goals.

The relationship between him and the club/fans just became irreparable.

I liked him, good player but can see why we’ve let him go. I’d rather we went all out for Thomas anyway, as unlikely as it is.

Chris Beech had this to say on the retained list.

What we can all sometimes forget with players is that they have personal situations and circumstances which can dictate what they want to do next. I’m not going to talk about individuals and break any trust that way, but sometimes the retained list is put together with knowledge of what a player may be going through, and what his needs are.

Which kind of fits what I said before about a player not being offered a new contract doesn't necessarily mean the club didn't want to keep him, and looking at the list of players we've released I can only imagine this is a reference to McKirdy as the rest you could understand us releasing anyway (even if many fans would have kept Jones and I'm sure a few, myself included, would have kept Sagaf and Collin).

Didn't know he was so close to Webster, I could see that he had some issues with a section of the crowd but from my perspective with the fans around me and being at the WRE where players tend to celebrate second half goals it looked like the relationship with the wider fanbase was holding strong. Guess it depends where you stand though, what the people around you are like and whether you have a good view of things such as the bench, the tunnel, the goal etc. Looked more hopeful from my perspective presumably than yours.

Here’s more from Chris Beech on McKirdy

A shame it came to this, especially as it's only really been a handful of fans giving him bad stick. He seemed fine until they started targetting him, even though the team don't get applauded off every game, the team being booed off after a poor game only seemed to become an issue for him once he had decided the fans here were against him, which like I say, only boils down to a handful.

Anywhere he goes, there's going to be a handful of idiots who will get personal so I fear this is going to get in the way of his career development.

A lot of people, particularly those from big cities tend to think that bigotry is something you only get in places such as Carlisle and that if he were to find a club in a big city such as Bristol Rovers or Salford then he wouldn't have to endure it again. The problem is, bigotry, while I wouldn't say it was common in football compared to society as a whole, is a lot more noticable, wherever you go in the game because people feel safe to shout something out from the crowd that is easily heard by the player.

It sounds as though Ollie Palmer may be leaving Crawley. Tweeted that he doesn't know whats going on next season and, as his contract is up come June, it appears the club have not offered a new one...I can sort of see why with the lock down.

Personally I would have put an offer to him but for the contract to start when football resumes. I know that means he could sign for another team but I presume we would want to keep our top scorer but I would also presume we can't afford to pay him with no income.

If he does leave I would wish him well and he could definitely be a starter for most teams in this division.

I'm expecting us to release Porter, so when football does restart up and if we're in a position to sign anyone he would be at the top of my list to replace Porter.

Palmer was linked with Vale in January so may be one we go after again although he’s always looked poor whenever I’ve seen him against us!

I think he’s one of those players that looks poor a lot of the time but has a knack of scoring goals.

Bear in mind our fans pretty much slaughtered 27 goal a season Leon Constantine who left the club because he appeared lazy! so our judgement isn't the best in fairness!

I know it was the league below - but Quigley and Dior Angus got about 35 between them in all competitions this season too.
We're the same though - Sean McConville who is in L1 at Accrington was absolutely rubbish for us as a striker and look how he's done since;- over 300 games, 60 goals and 60+ assists... as a midfield (?) player in the EFL

Palmer's a decent enough L2 striker, pretty well rounded, but he just doesn't have any outstanding attributes. You couldn't describe him as very quick, very good in the air, very skilful etc.

Yep. Solid enough. Strength maybe his best asset? Never understood the shit he seems to get. Scored an absolute banger and a very important goal for vs Eastleigh in the playoff semi 2nd leg the year Bristol Rovers beat us on sudden death.

Think he needs to be at a club with less resources so that he's playing in week in week out though.

We have confirmed interest in brining back Jake Taylor and Mitch Clarke for third spells. Jake was excellent last year although injury meant he never got to feature after Man City.

Would happily keep them all but expect Taylor to be in high demand after his performances first half of the season. Mitch should of signed instead of going Leicester in the summer and admits he regrets it and fired his agent! So we will see. Down to LCFC letting him go I guess.

We’ve signed 3 youths on their first pro contracts. Offered Jordan Lyden a new 2 year contract.
