We did and it helped us over the line last season but also strengthened us in the previous ones.

The transfer window makes a huge difference. We would bring in a player if we needed one but you can't do that up here and definitely have to carry a larger squad to cope with injuries suspensions and loss of form.

I don't mind the keeper, perhaps I've been traumatised by Slocombe and Stone but I think Ashby-Hammond will get better.

I think Jones would be most likely. He'd do a job in L1, always did until his knee ops and now seems over them. I don't think he has any particular loyalty to Notts and would jump at the chance to go up a division with an upwardly mobile club. Langstaff a bit of a gamble and wouldn't be cheap...

Relegation Thread 23/24 Sponsored by Sadford City

So many teams that drop into the National league end up there not because they've the worst set of players but because the owners either lose focus or run out of money. It's the worst run clubs that often get relegated.

Congratulations Stockport, best team I've seen this season tonight. You're actually only the second team to give us a mauling despite conceding 90? this season we usually don't lose by more than two. Sutton on opening day were the other. Dave Challinor seems to always beat us, Hartlepool...

League 2 team of the year

Not really seen enough of any of the players to have a valid opinion but Okwonko along with Gillingham keeper the best against us. Keillor Dunn and Rob Apter also stood out against us, Apter ripped us to bits at Prenton Park.

Not a fucking prayer he's going to Carlisle next season. Middlesbrough, Swansea or someone unexpected but I think he's going to go to the Championship and skip L1 altogether.

Scunthorpe are giving it a fair go.

Solihull have an awful ground, great pitch but the ground is the worst I've been to. I've been to smaller, older and less well appointed grounds that I've no problem with but there's something truly crap about Solihulls ground. Perhaps it's the temporary stands with the canvas roofs blown off...

Anyone but Bromley. Woodmanball is repulsive. Imagine the worst of fatty Evans and the Cowley bros with Karl Robinson thrown in and that's the joy of Andy Woodman.

It's all relative, I'm delighted to be back and finish comfortably mid table.

Both teams want the win, neither actually need it so as Jacob says it should be an open enjoyable game. We seem to be scoring plenty of goals again after drying up a bit and we're still not much closer to looking strong in defence so 0-0 looks doubtful.

Got to hand it to Phil Parkinson, he's under pressure and done the business. No doubt you've been well funded but plenty of well backed teams fail.

Always think we're lucky being pretty much hang on the middle of the country. It's still a long day going to Exeter or Barrow but Barrow to Gillingham is a fair commitment.

    League 2 General Chat Thread

I think we've a good chance to go very close next season. We're going to strengthen, already have with Macari, Jatta and Robertson all improvements on what we started the season with. The statement I thought was pretty anodine, didn't reveal too much except they're in it for the long haul.

On the accounts there was a £900,000 capital purchase. I didn't see it but on Notts Mad a poster did. I've just presumed that was it, sounds about right for an industrial unit that size and location.

It's a big one tomorrow. FGR have to win, not winning does nothing for your confidence although take away the drama and a point isn't the end of the world.

They've also spent £900,000 to acquire a unit across from the ground for the fan zone. They're definitely investing for the long run. We won't just spend money on top price players but will spend a good £250-500k on a new pitch and under soil heating. They have and are ploughing millions into...
