Pennock has a bit of pressure on him, as although we did scrape into the play-offs last season, our style of football and the way we played in the play-offs left a bit of a sour taste in a number of fans mouths. This season anything less then a top 5 finish has to be seen as unacceptable, but for me the league is looking stronger this season i'm not sure we are. If we start badly then I can see the pressure on Pennock mounting, and with a proven manager like Day already at the club AP needs a strong start..

Are you still here? Nobody gives a shit about your Tin Pot operation.

1/10.

It's funny how you seem to think you speak for everyone on here, I doubt many would want to be associated with your opinions.

I do, however, see Alty as relegation fodder this year. New players look very uninspiring, still only one real striker, the midfielders can't hit a barn door and the defence falls asleep at least once every game.
Yous have michael rankine, theres hope

Malcolm Crosby just reeks of being a terrible appointment, as if Gateshead have no idea of what they are trying to do - do they think they can challenge for promotion or are they just looking to consolidate their National League status?

Pennock and Hill both could come under pressure very quickly if the few matches of the season don't go their teams' way.
Really? Hes brought in what seems like decent players (on paper anyhow). May not have managed for a bit but has been active in coaching and recruitment and has alot of contacts during. I look forward to crosby proveing folk wrong and im sure he does too

I predict Pennock. Scraping into and then struggling in the playoffs was the most he could manage with that squad and money. If he doesn't improve on that this season, he simply must go. They must start off quick to win the title also and if he doesn't :bye:

Not likely to be sacked but I wouldn't at all be surprised if Askey gets fed up with complete lack of support from above and walks. Been enough interest in him over last couple of years to easily turn his head.

Don't be daft, even the idiot throwing his money away doesn't think Forest Green have a hope in hell of winning the National League. Anything above half way and they're overachieving.

I think you could be right. Although Vince has shown a lot of patience with both Hockaday and now Pennock, it's getting to the point where promotion is becoming vital to him especially given his grand plans for the new stadium complex and big statements about where he wants to take the club.

Unlike last season, play-offs will be seen as the minimum aim, although all the noises coming out of the club suggest the title is the main target. The problem is i'm not sure we're good enough to manage either, the league is looking stronger and our old weaknesses still appear to be there, going on our pre-season performances.

I would tend to agree with this as, despite Dale Vince saying there were no targets, this season is probably the one where there is a greater expectation of challenging for promotion either directly or through the play-offs. I can only comment on the home play-offs, not having seen any of the away games, and I think it is fair to say that we ran a bit hot and cold. The performances against Cardiff, Villa, and particularly WBA U-21's were good, but the way we threw away a three goal lead against Plymouth was as bizarre as it was disappointing. I think it is fair to say that Argyle should have been down to ten men, for the foul that conceded the penalty for our third, and had that happened they may not have been able to recover. You would hope that any team would be able to close down a game when they have a substantial lead, especially as they had defended so well in the previous couple of games, but that just did not happen.

If we don't make a really decent start to the season, which I would rate as no lower than top 7-8 by say the end of September, then I expect Pennock to come under some pressure. Fans are fickle at the best of times and we have some who can moan as well as the worst of them when things aren't going well, I sincerely hope that this won't happen, but I have a bad feeling that it might.

The exact same can be said for Eastleigh.

As for Aspin dream on, unless he shags one of the women in the chairman's immediate family, he's unsackable.

So who do you think he slept with?

Football is a funny old game, the 2 most mentioned managers in here are currently occupying 1st and 2nd place

Everyone said "Pennock if FGR start badly" to be fair. Also Lincoln aren't in 2nd...

How is faith in Hurst and Moyses going Grimsby and Lincoln fans respectively?

I think we're both in quite a similar position really. Deep down both sets of fans know our managers aren't good enough to reach our target (promotion in Grimsby's case, top ten for us), but our starts haven't been terrible enough to warrant either being sacked.

I thought the opposite. Nothing special at all. No outstanding teams at all.

I'll disagree with that. Second half last week Grimsby played the best football I've seen played against us since we have been back down here. We just couldn't get near them and if they can keep that up they'll win the division comfortably.

From what I've seen the standard is similar to last season, but that's still a hell of a lot poorer to the season prior.
