Thanks bud. I do feel for york and boston as this wasnt in either script was it. We have been trying hard not to be a billy big bollocks on here as we alty fans knew what a fantastic side we have now. But for a bad start and several players out our management were sure we would have won it. This proves them right. If we keep this side plus a few suitable additions i can honestly see us in the nat lge playoffs again next year. Great day to be an alty fan. Back where we belong... and still part time fan owned.

Good to see one of the very, very, very few remaining fan owned, non bankrolled, "pure" clubs get promotion.

Unlucky Boston, watched the match and it was a game destined for penalties, howler from Boston's keeper hands Alty the victory. Alty then managed the game out, how the ref only gave 3 mins extra time was insane but not a lot went for the home side be it injuries to key players or 50/50's from the ref.

Not much in the game and neither side deserved the win. Harsh for Boston who leave York Street on a painful defeat but congrats to Alty.

Jury is out on Charman to see if he does strengthen us or not. Hopefully he isn’t as ineffective as Gary Martin. For what it is worth I think he will be decent given his background but I’ll have to reserve proper judgement until I’ve seen him play.

Holmes was mentioned in the same bracket as Maguire & Charman, two are centre forwards & one is a winger, hence my comment.

Holmes can play wide or through the middle like Campbell, though was used mainly wide at Blyth. The reason he was lumped in with Charman and Maguire, is because I was making a point about all of our "new" forward options.

If we want to break it down into subsets, we can say Maguire and Charman are CFs, Campbell is a deep forward/wide forward or CF, Donawa and Holmes are wide forwards/wingers and Rivers is an out and out winger.

All open to interpretation of course.

If you are wondering what my interpretation of "wide forward" and "winger" is, I'd say a winger is someone who hugs the touchline, gets forwards and knocks crosses in, in a 4-4-2/4-5-1 formation, whereas a wide forward is more of a forward than winger in a 4-3-3 (but can go wide too)

Make your mind up pal.
Would of kept McGuire on a pay/goal related contract.
Not sure why we have released Burrows,McGuire and Langstaff more than good enough for this level, just not Alty level strikers.
Kurt Willoughby when on loan from Flyde scored 4 goals in a month loan and looked the missing link,
Watson must have a few lined up or will fail massively next season.

Watson clearly thinks he can sign better players than those three, it'll be interesting to see what he comes up with.

Regarding Maguire, I got the impression from listening to his interview that injuries weren't the main problem last season, I got the impression although it wasn't said, that he was often overlooked.

A belated well done to Alty - I saw all their play off games and they were deserving winners in all of them. They got a bit lucky against Chester with the sending off (but would likely have won anyway), then gave a very professional performance to comfortably beat a York side lacking fitness. The final was deadlocked until a goalkeeping mistake but after that they saw the game out with ease. Hope they can establish themselves back in the Conference. If the worst happens at Macc, at least we might have games against Alty and County next season to look forward to....

IF the worst* happens you could be put in NLN like Boston were in 2007(?) and play Bury...
* worst where you get chucked out but survive.

Technically possible but I'll be optimistic and say it's unlikely. Hitting us with a double relegation on an appeal would be very harsh IMO. Besides, there's no space for us in the north division anyway (barring very late reprieves and lateral movement that is).

As for Bury, I can't see the original club getting a spot in the pyramid at this point. Same applies for Macc if we go bust - we would have to take a year out and then reform in the North West Counties.

Was it the same Boston 'keeper who dropped a clanger in the FA Cup against Rochdale?

Been an eventful few seasons for Alty - up twice, down three times and the odd reprieve thrown in as well?!

It looks like you'll be keeping 1 of the Newby's next season (Elliot), but that Alex has had offers from EFL teams one local(ish) to Barrow - my guess is that club would be Morecambe.
Localish to Barrow or to Barrow's training facility?
Rumour on Twitter that it's us who are about to sign Alex Newby...

His younger brother told me he had signed for you the day after i wrote that post
Reminds me of 12 or so years ago, when Dale signed Adam Le Fondre permanently from Stockport. A lad I worked with at the time was one of ALF's best mates, and a massive County fan, so ALF rang him (to apologise, maybe?) when we bought him.

Yeah Alty have been yoyo'ing around the last few years for sure, but since we got a decent management team its been up ever since, 2 promotions in 3 years with a playoff semi win in between. What's ever so pleasing is that we play really good attacking football, are fan owned, no debt and an incredibly positive board and fanbase. Planning to move from part time to hybrid then fulltime over the next year covid dependant. Ground capacity now 7700 and much improved facilities since many conf Nat fans were last at Moss Lane,.. assuming they will be allowed when things start up next season. Really looking forward to being back again,.. less so the massive amount of travelling for northern teams. Hey ho you cant have everything !

The worst would be if you were relegated to the Conference North or lower. Obviously hope that doesn't happen, but you're always going to be on a knife edge under the current chairman.

That ground capacity looks a bit unrealistic. Where will they all go.

That's the official certified capacity, its held over 8500 in the past. We have new terrace now in front of the sports hall plus a new fan zone area plus we have a new perimeter fence, the old one didn't allow capacity for any fans behind it. In any event its not relevant as capacities will only be 25 or 33% anyway next season.

First 2 new signings by Watson.
Scott Barrow defender from Gateshead and Robbie Tinkler from Aldershot, happy with both of them.
Watson rates Tinkler very highly always talks about him.

Sorted all our new contracts tonight so our position is as below. Would expect around 3/4 new signings to follow, two central midfielders and a backup centre back for certain. But we're otherwise going with the same again. Asante won't be replaced as we're overstocked in that position already, others like Elliott will feature more instead. Few youth players to add in as well.

Under Contract

Joel Taylor
Brad Jackson
George Glendon
John Johnston
Lloyd Marsh-Hughes
Will Goodwin

Signed New Deals

Kevin Roberts
Simon Grand
Danny Livesey
Anthony Dudley
Gary Roberts
Jamie Morgan
Danny Elliott
George Waring
Matty Hughes

New Signings
Louis Gray
Jon Worsnop

Loan Expired
James Jones

Left
Akwasi Asante (Gloucester)
Matty Waters (Curzon Ashton)
Scott Burton (Bamber Bridge)
Gary Stopforth
Russ Griffiths (Telford)
Elton Ngwatala
Cain Noble
Iwan Murray (Runcorn Linnets)
Matty Thomson
Theo Roberts
George Macready
