Just got myself a 360 as I've got some time off work over the next few weeks. Never really got into CoD, but I like the older stuff so I've downloaded some of the first ones. 1, 2 and 3 from Marketplace.

If I eventually get a Xbox 1, will my gamertag / score/ achievements carry over even though the game isn't available on the Xbox 1?

Apologies if this is an obvious answer

Yeah mate, the consoles are linked accounts wise so you can just sign onto your usual account once you get Xbox One.

Nice one -how come you can't download those games on Xbox one anyway?
Think it's because Xbox One came out after them. So for example - you can't get Modern Warfare 3 on Xbox One, you can only get the more modern and newer releases, such as Ghosts and Advanced Warfare.

You made the right choice in my view. I can still see no reason to update from my 360 and dirt cheap pre-owned games to an Xbox One or PS4. I bought 7 games the other day from Game for £28, and not shit old ones either. Best time to own a last-gen console.
