He's going at the end of the season because ITV have next to no football rights afterwards. Just England home fixtures + international tournaments. A significant number of pundits/commentators work freelance now, so there's no sense in keeping a guy on full time when they only need him for half a dozen games a year. I wouldn't be particularly surprised if he pops up on ITV again during Euro 2016, even if it's no longer with the A-team. Beglin and Drury were AXED by ITV a few years back and returned in that capacity.

Certainly the streamers amongst us will not be free of his ear ache - he'll surely end up doing Prem and Champs League stuff for international rights holders, if nothing else.

And to those celebrating: we're trading him for Michael Owen, Robbie Savage and the rest of the clown car brigade on BT Sport. And you'll actually have to pay for the privilege this time.

Incorrect ITV will still ahve right to CL/Europa highlights just no live coverage ater this season. Live courage goes to BT Sport.

I meant live rights, obviously. They aint keeping anyone on the books full time at his payscale for 12 mins of possibly off tube commentary airing at 10.30pm, are they.

Is Townsend going as well then? Great news, worst commentator bar David Pleat.
Pleat was awful, but I enjoyed listening to him. You genuinely can't believe some of the shit that came out of his mouth:

Our central defenders, Doherty and Anthony Gardner, were fantastic and I told them that when they go to bed tonight they should think of each other.”

“For such a small man Maradona gets great elevation on his balls.”

“Stoichkov is pointing at the bench with his eyes.”

“A game is not won until it is lost.”

“Eighty per cent of teams who score first in matches go on to win them. But they may draw some. Or occasionally lose…..”

“Had we not got that second goal, I think the score might have been different. I’m not sure.”

“He hits it into the corner of the net as straight as a nut.”

"Craig Bellamy definitely runs faster forwards than he runs backwards"

"A few South Americans in this Porto team. Three Romanians and three Portuguese. We should be in for some Samba action tonight"

“Republic of Czechoslovakia”

“We are now in the middle of the centre of the first half”

“For those of you watching in black and white, Spurs are in the all yellow strip.”
And my favourite commentary quote of all-time:

“There’s Thierry Henry, exploding like the French train that he is.”
There are literally hundreds of them and I always loved listening to him commentate on foreign players, like Petra Check and Terry Henry.

Good riddance to Chiles. I liked Townsend though. He was enthusiastic which can't be said about dour BBC commentators like Guy Mowbray (despite their best efforts to shove him down everyone's throats, most people still don't know who he is lol) and Alan Green.

Yes, Townsend was biased. Do people want robots commentating though?

Don't mind Pougatch at all to be honest. Better than those who have been before him anyway. Chiles and Townsend both at once is like a football fan pundit wetdream.

Is their other presenter Matt.....I.......talk........very..........slowly.........Smith still there or has he gone as well?
Also gone.

Chiles going is excellent news. I was fearing ITV getting the rights to Premier League highlights in 2016, and Chiles fronting it every week!

Good riddance that Chiles and Townsend are gone! Don't know that Pougach guy though as never listened to 5 Live for a match commentary. James Richardson should have been the man though to come in; he's a lege!

Good shout! I think he may be in on the new Football League show on Channel 5. He already does the World Strongest man on there.

With the exception of Alan Green (though even he's not as bad as he used to be, guessing he's been told to tone it down), Five Live are pretty good. I dont like listening to radio commentaries, but if I have to, I pick Five Live.

Looks like binning off the One Show was a great career move for Chiles wasnt it? Had a chat show axed, binned off Daybreak, and now binned off the footy. Meanwhile the One Show thrives...

Yeah, but ITV paid him a ridiculous amount of money, so I don't think he'll mind.

Pougatch is an excellent broadcaster and will surely improve ITV's coverage. They're still in need of a couple of quality pundits though.
Maybe not for ITV, but for whoever gets the Football League highlights this season and it's looking like Channel 5, I hope they get Dave Kitson as a pundit. Really rate him.
