Alright, I was enjoying this thread before. Let's get it back up and running. Did Liu and POTM make it over here?

As expected, South Korea and Australia took the top spots in Group A with Oman scoring their only points against Kuwait. After I was banned, I saw mm asking what I was talking about when I said Korea weren't up to much. He went on to say that they were impossible to breakdown and really well organised. In my defence, I did say that despite being hardworking and very difficult to breakdown they were not as good as previously, due to a lack of firepower. I still stand by this. The Australia result and performance were impressive, but they still only won all their matches by a single goal.

Korea will go onto to play Group B runners up Uzbekistan in the next round, who are a side that have caused the Koreans problems in their past two meetings. Australia will face China who navigated Group B with a 100% record.

Iran have also unsurprisingly topped Group C, also with a 100% record. The UAE also progressed as runners up of this group.

Japan will face Jordan, while Iraq play Palestine in the final matches of Group D. Jordan need to beat Japan to go through, but even then they will be relying on Palestine to prevent Iraq winning. If that happens Jordan will go through as group winners with Japan as runners up. The more likely scenario though, is wins for Japan and Iraq resulting in Japan topping the group and Iraq going through as runners up. If this happens; all group winners will take a 100% record through to the next round, with all runners up finishing on 6 points, all third placed teams on 3 points and all bottom teams going home without a single point.

Everything sticking to the script so far.

The QFs are looking like this...

South Korea v Uzbekistan
China v Australia
Iran v Group D runner up
Group D winner v UAE

No surprises with Qatar finishing bottom of their group. And to think this country will get a free pass to the World Cup in 2022...

Iraq looking good for qualification at the moment. They're drawing with Palestine but Jordan are losing to Japan.

The table is set:
Korea vs Uzbekistan / Iran vs Iraq
China vs Australia / Japan vs UAE

Korea are pretty much in the final imo. Can't see them getting knocked out by any of the sides that they'll meet.

Not entirely convinced that Australia will breeze past China. Even if they do progress, I fancy Japan to beat them in the semi.

Korea vs Japan final for me.

Pretty pissed off that these games are on weekdays and that there will be zero games on this weekend!:dk:

Iraq got through! It means STFC will be without messrs Luongo and Kasim for a while longer yet.

I have no idea how Japan didn't win. One of their players missed the biggest sitter imaginable right on the original final whistle. Strange!

Can't believe my adopted boys are through to the semi-finals!

Football out here has been improving for years now, ever since foreign players started plying their trade for local teams. A local league game is probably of a similar standard to league 1/2, with a couple of premier league/championship quality players.

So excited about the semi-final against Australia. The boss is an Aussie and he's given us the afternoon off work for the game!

As expected, S Korea make the final with a pretty routine win over Iraq (minus their best player Kasim ;)). They're still yet to concede too which is mightily impressive.

Australia should join them tomorrow though much will depend on whether Omar turns up for UAE. A spot of magic from him could prove to be the difference as Aus have been fairly workmanlike and lacking in flair.

Would be great to have Korea vs Australia AGAIN.

Know what would be greater? That Korea beat Australia on home soil. AGAIN.

Oh and a quick word to SoC who said that Korea were not all that. Yeah, great story.

They haven't really beaten anyone of note other than Australia (and let's face it we're stretching this notion of "of note" here, too) though, have they? Yesterday was the first match they scored more than a single goal in 90 minutes. They have been very impressive at the back but, as I've said a few times now, I gave them credit for that before a ball was even kicked in this tournament. Did you watch them at the World Cup? Or in WC qualifying?

Nah, I'm just pointing fingers uselessly.

I think they'll win the whole thing regardless of what happens today.

Two assists for Luongo already. His price tag is rising by the minute.

Omar's trying to get us going, and we've come back in to it a little but we need a goal in the next 10 minutes.

He's a class act. Ridiculous poise on the ball, just can't seem to pick a pass today. If he was Brazilian, all of the world's top clubs would looking at him.

I can't believe nobody in Europe has moved for him yet. Could easily play in any of the top leagues.

So there you have it, the rematch of the Group A showdown in the final! Be there or be fucked saturday 10AM (or 9AM for you Brits).

Would be a damn shame if the Aussies didn't win given it's at their place. Would be a great achievement for Korea though.

Fantastic goal from Massimo Luongo, the pivot and strike into the bottom corner from 25-30 yards out. Only caught the last 15 minutes of the first half but it's fair to say that Korea were on top up until that goal.

520 minutes plus 5 matches worth of injury time into the Asia Cup and Korea finally concede. In the final right before half time. Terrible time. Let's see how they come back out. Don't think I've seen them look good when coming from behind.

See, I told you all Korea wouldn't win it.

mm, you wouldn't have it though would you? Korea are soooo awesome, you said. They will definitely win the next WC, you said (that was on TFF).

I knew though.
