Now, I want to build myself a pc and I've been doing some price comparisons etc, and have priced up an AMD build Vs an Intel build, below is the build and price:

Intel

CPU: Intel Core i5-4690 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor £168.39
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-H97M-D3H Micro ATX LGA1150 £68.89
Memory: Kingston 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 £34.15
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM £35.40
Graphics Card: MSI GeForce GTX 960 4GB £189.98
PSU: EVGA 500W 80+ Certified ATX £29.99
Disc Drive: Samsung SH-118CB/BEBE DVD/CD Drive £9.96

Total price: £536.76

AMD

CPU: AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz 6-Core £78.83
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing £24.95
Motherboard: ASRock 980DE3/U3S3 ATX AM3+ £45.29
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 £40.26
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM £35.40
Graphics Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 960 4GB SuperSC ACX 2.0+ £194.24
PSU: SeaSonic ECO 430W 80+ Bronze Certified Fully-Modular ATX £29.99
Disc Drive: Samsung SH-224DB/BEBE DVD/CD Writer £9.35

Total Price: £458.31

As you can see, I've been able to splash a little more on some stuff (CPU Cooler and nicer RAM) and the thing still comes out ~£80 less for the AMD, with more cooling, 2 more cores and slightly nicer RAM. I am however, way out of the loop when it coes to PCs and I'm looking more for the best bang for my buck, I'm looking to use it for gaming, not major games at 60fps etc. I just fail to see how basically the same pc which at first glance seems more powerful (6 cores vs 4) can be so much cheaper!

Not included case/keyboard/mouse as they're not exactly essential components and can get any for now.

Help me!

In regards to gaming there is barely any difference between the CPU's, especially if you overclock the AMD CPU. In terms of overall system performance then obviously Intel wins hands down, and is why it costs more. I also think you's be better off spending £40 more and getting a GTX 970 card as the difference between the two is considerable. I know it could potentially be overkill for the games you play at 1080p, but it gives you the opportunity later on to play at a higher res and is also more attractive to potential buyers should you wish to sell it for whatever reason down the line.

Also, get yourself a 120GB SSD for £30/£35 and use it as your boot drive for Windows. The benefits are massive and it really is worth that little bit extra.

Alternatively if you want to save money and you're not bothered so much about the GPU then get yourself a second hand 770 card off eBay for £150 odd. The difference between that and the 960 in regards to FPS is pretty much neck and neck, I'd know as I've had both in the past before taking the plunge for a 980, and it would leave you that extra bit of cash for the SSD.

No worries pal. I've put a fair few watercooled builds together over the past year or two so feel free to ask away if you have any more questions at all or just need need an alternate opinion.
