Any of you fellas play?

I play for my local side, Division 3 of my league structure. Bowled out our opponents for 116, then knocked them off in 23 overs. I batted 3, came in at 99-1, hit 4 fours from my 7 balls and sorted that game out! Firmly second in the table and a bloody good chance of promotion

I played many moons ago at youth level before I did my cruciate ligament in, never got back into playing then. I do go watch my local side now and again as it's only a ten minute walk from my house to the ground :) I played in the same side of Adam Harrison, who played for Glamorgan a few times, who is also the younger brother of big Dave Harrison.

Currently playing in my clubs 2nd team, played 5 games for them and on 12 wickets atm with one 5 for. Batted twice and got 122* and 49*. Last couple of games I've been standing in as captain and we've won both, yesterday beating top of the league and face a trip to second next game with a lovely hour and a half journey.

Played for about 10 years from the age of 12-22, but gave up a couple of years ago. Was never really any good, just loved playing.

Swear my bad back is from playing cricket twice a weekend for nearly 5 years though.

Got hammered on saturday. Bowled out for 96, and knocked off one down. I got 3 not out, and took the only wicket in their innings, so I did ok I guess! Shame about the rest of the team...

Nobody likes stories where you do well, people only like the ones where you fail miserably.

I played cricket for a local side one year when I was 13, because I liked trying most sports and a lot of my friends played. I made my debut batting at about number 7, and after facing three or four deliveries of seemingly lightning paced slow-medium bowling, I managed to squirm an outside edge between the slips. It looked like it might go for four, but it didn't and in my hesitance I only ran once while the other batsman lapped me while running three and in the confusion the umpires just played on (to this day I don't know if it was recorded as a single, a three or some other quantity). Much to my relief I was clean bowled next delivery and I could go and re-join the kickabout at the side of the pitch, but not before the bowler gleefully laughed in my face and told me I'd faced half his deliveries while holding the bat the wrong way round. When it was our time to field I was initially placed quite near the wicket keeper, but dropped the ball when we were doing that toss the ball around to keep warm between deliveries thing and was swiftly moved out to the boundary. The father (manager) / son (captain) delegation committee had successfully deduced that I was not a batsman but unfortunately took an unsuccessful next step in presuming this must mean I was a bowler. So, with my new side defending god knows how many runs, and our openers finishing their first spells, they turned to me. And boy did I deliver with my only amateur level cricketing over to date. Three wickets, all caught slogging, ten deliveries due to my loose directional sense resulting in a few wides, a warning from the umpire for approaching the crease from the wrong angle, and about 13 runs conceded. However, it was enough to completely change the momentum of the match and I saw out the rest of our comfortable victory from my relatively uneventful spot near the ropes, apart from when I got distracted by a wasp and was unable to stop a ball going for four.

I went to nets practice for a couple of months, and played a few more games holding the bat the right way round and even filled in at wicket keeper once without completely fucking up. However, I already knew in my heart of hearts that I was not really a cricketer.

I play, twice a weekend usually.

Played for our first team yesterday away at top of the league in the top division. We got absolutely shafted by the cheat of an umpire (not the first time this season) and it all kicked off. Me and a couple of others will probably be suspended next week for calling him a cheating prick

The only game that the other team have lost all season was against us at our ground so they were out for revenge.

Rain was forecast at 6pm but seemingly their captain hadn't checked the forecast because he opted to bat first. They put on 252-5 off the 45 overs, we were then 100-5 (I was batting at 8 so next in) when it started to piss down.

Came off and the rules are that if you come off for rain you can not start until it has completely stopped, but the bell end umpires tried to make us go back on while it was still raining lightly. Needless to say, we refused

Pissed off a lot of people yesterday :D

Due to both teams missing players from the previous week we went on our longest away trip with 9 players, someone pulled out 30 mins before going. Win the toss any chance of I had to stick them in on a road. 136/1 after 25 overs, then 3 wickets in quick succession and then a steady stream to bowl them out for 226, I came back on to bowl the last 5 from my end. Some guy hit me for 4 slogging over mid on, so moved the guy back a bit, bowled a slightly slower ball he tried it again... Caught at mid on. Then next ball whacked back at me dive to my right and catch it one handed. In the end 9.4 overs 2-39.

We were skittled for 75 in which I got 17 in about 5 overs and took 14 off an over. Still an average of 188 at the moment

Lost by 2 wickets away to top of the league. Much closer than I expected, as we are completely shite this year. I got a 3-fer, and my own personal fan club "cheering" me on from the clubhouse balcony, as a few members of the opposition's second team know me. Know how Mitchell Johnson feels now ;)

Very mixed weekend for me, Yesterday won the toss chose to bat first and we got 293/9 off our 45, I got 49 pulled one straight to deep square leg and very flat, he didn't have to move. Then 4-28 off 9 overs, took myself off after 4 wickets to give the kids a bowl, so massive double jug avoidance by me  Means after having only played 7 games I'm the 4th highest wicket taker in the league with 18 and only 7 or so off top. Definitely think if I was allowed to bowl properly and not be pulled off for getting too many I could be looking at 45-50 wickets in a 18 game season.

Today was our semi final in the Minor Somerset 20 over comp, great start have them 7-2 going through them well and then they edge one behind easily and the neutral umpire gives it not out, un-fucking-believable, big edge too, he goes on to hit 40 (edge was on 0) and they set 153. We were 60 without loss after 10, I'm with our best batsman 17 overs or so in so 3 to go and 30/40 needed, I drive it back hits the stumps they then pull the stump out with our guy in, umpire not even looking at it as it happens then bloody gives it out, how the fuck can you give it when he hasn't seen it, no conferring with the other umpire, gave it straight away. It's not as if they're biased just shit and incompetent and then we had to pay them after.

Well you can't get any more miserable than playing for my team, who are currently bottom of Division 5 West in Cornwall, 20+ points behind 2nd bottom. I am 51 and yet nowhere near the oldest player in our side. The one game we did win properly (with nine men) was taken off us because we should have fulfilled a 1st team fixture instead.

I personally have 35 runs @7.00. with one catch

Well by the looks we are going to be playing with 8 or 9 players tomorrow, however we bowled the same team out for 86 earlier in the season when I got 5-18 so will have to see how it goes.

We are playing the side we 'beat' earlier in the season tomorrow. They will doubtless score 300-4 and bowl us out for 83 or something

Not quite. They made 237-7 and we got 157-6. I made 4* and took a catch. Sadly I also dropped one and he went on to make 127*. D'oh!!!

We managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

Turn up and find we are playing on some shite astro wicket (no cut square so can tell they don't give a shit and are happy on their astro) and choose to bowl first. They end up getting 206/5 (being an astro the pitch helped shit all) in which I bowled 12 overs 2 maidens 2-36 taking me up to 20 wickets in the 9 games I've played (half a season). We start brilliantly and we are around 140-1 and cruising, however a guy is approaching his first ever ton and slows down and the 14 year old lad with him can't take the slack of scoring extra runs and we go from 4/5 an over to 1/2 over the next 5-10 overs and lose quick wickets. I come in at 6 needing 26 off 24 or so, and the guy who got his ton gets out first ball. Turns out the sun sets right behind the arm of the bowler at one end and I couldn't see the ball being released, so try and push straight to go over the top and the balloons. We end up losing by 15 runs or so.

Turns out the skipper is absent AGAIN next week so this will be like my 5th game on the trot as skipper and has made me realise how much it annoyed me last season. Was thinking of doing it again next season but now we have a bowling machine I'm going to push myself for a regular 1st team spot, as I'd probably have had one this season if I weren't captaining so much.

Got 32 myself at the weekend. Average still above 30 for the year, but we lost the game. Were 6-2 then me and the captain rebuilt somewhat to 60-2, but then three wickets fell and killed off the game. Chasing just over 200.

I'm good friends with the club chairmans son, so when we get a free evening we are always down on the bowling machine. 75mph is about as quick as I'll have it, and only on the drive! Short balls I'll have at 68mph, enough time to get out of the way if one pops!

We've just bought one after a year or so of fund raising. The surface we use it on skids on making it feel quicker but used it on 65 as a first attempt and was comfortable enough. Will push up to 70 soon. On grass wickets im comfortable with guys who can bowl 75 so should be alright. Ours is just kept in the garage under the pavilion which I have keys to :2thumb:

Yeah our club is minted. Devon Malcolm is the president, really nice fella. A few years back Darren Gough and Jason Gillespie opened the bowling for half a season for us too. Steven Crook and Alex Wakely of Northants have both played for us recently too, Crooky for a full season.

In our manual it says to add 2-3 mph on to what the display says, so facing at 68 is actually 70 etc. 68 is more reassuring when your mate shouts it down from the other end though!

We can only claim a former Cornwall player, and a current Cornwall over 50s player, although the late Bob Woolmer was a honorary president.

I did do 12th man duties for Cornwall once (1996), I even fielded for a few overs. It was against Oxfordshire and the current NZ coach Dimitri Mascharenhas was playing for them.

In the late 80's we had Curtley Ambrose and Winston Benjamin at my club, wouldn't have liked to have netted with those lads! The current squad includes Jordan Clark of Lancashire.

Looking forward to a trip to Stone on Sunday for the regional finals of the national T20, 3 more wins and our first XI will be playing on Sky in the finals in Cardiff. We won the thing last season but Sky pulled the plug on the coverage!
