A friend of mine returned from the UK in February and within a week we both had a 3 week cough and feeling breathless - although I didn’t really feel ill as such, just lethargic.

Who knows.

despite how the pictures look I was at a beach yesterday and pretty much everyone was 2 metre plus apart (all be it not a major resort).

Yeah I think those beach shots in the media have been from a deceptive angle. Strolled along Torquay seafront yesterday and the beach was as busy as you'd expect for any normal sunny May bank holiday but there was easily 2m between people. Mind you the tide was out so that may have changed as it started to come back in later.

All those countries started by ignoring the threat, reacted too slowly, fucked up testing, failed to provide enough PPE and either gave up on contact tracing at a vital moment or didn't bother with it at all and are now rushing to reopen before infection rates are properly contained. Sound familiar?
Apart from Sweden. Who follows the exact linear data that we do, as do the Netherlands, despite following completely different protocol. Your witchhunt is almost embarrassing

You don't know, that's for sure. If none of this happened you'd have put it down as a simple 'winter flu' ffs, if you went this time last year others would pinpoint a time they had a bit of a cough.

Who knows.

I had an extremely bad bout of flu back in late November which lasted in to December. I stayed at home because I absolutely didn’t want to spread it to anyone else, but had a chest infection at the end so had antibiotics, which means I was home for 3 weeks.

My partner also did, and while he’s seen many of his colleagues getting ill over the last few months, he’s been ok and been able to work throughout.

I’m very much thinking now that covid-19 has been around a lot longer than we originally thought.

I know this sounds a bit like jumping on the band-wagon, given the comments above, but I also experienced some of the symptoms a few weeks before we went into lockdown. I lost my sense of taste and smell for a few days, had a sore throat (but no cough) and felt totally run-down. In retrospect I think that I might have had the virus too, but have been one of the lucky ones. I watched a Horizon documentary the other night, when they listed all the factors that put you at greater risk (they expressed them as multipliers). The only one I hit against was age and I reckon that I'm fairly fit and healthy, which also may count in my favour.

I think it’s now virtually only the very old and those with underlying health issues who need really worry.

I’m in the ‘problem’ group, being 65 and with high blood pressure - but, ffs, you’ve got to die from something!

I mean dying of a cardiac arrest as your body shuts down whilst a ventilator is pushing a breath into your knackered lungs at its highest possible pressure settings two weeks after you last saw any family or friends wouldn’t be my choice of death but each to their own.

Neither do I. But my comment was about me probably being nearer the exit than most on here and that I don’t want to spend much of it having to cower at home waiting for the Covid Grim Reaper to find me. If he wants me he knows where I am.

May well have been the case but guess until the antibody tests are widely available we won’t know who’s had it but should then give a good picture of the scale. France had a case a couple of months before the believed date I think i read.

They've (France) found old cases from December that they have checked samples from that have tested positive. Italy had a lot of unexplained Pneumonia like deaths as far back as November - that was reported in one of the Singapore newspapers a couple of months ago - but the report never saw the light of day over here.

At work my colleague had a cough for ages! couldn't shift it just before Xmas, then we mostly had "flue" illnesses so it is possible. If the case it leads to wonder when and how did it come about.

Someone on our forum has said playoff semis are to be held 16th and 23rd June with the final on 30th. Not sure how accurate this is though as I can't see it mentioned anywhere else.

You guys even back in training yet? Is literally going to be straight back into competitive games if that quick?

No witchunt, just don't think our country has handled this particularly well when compared to most other European countries. The Germans are doing embarrassingly better then us.

Neither the Dutch or the Swedes have been that successful in limiting their death tolls either.

There are protests in Sweden and lots of criticism over their handling of the virus. Their death toll is by far the highest in Scandinavia. Not a great country to compare us too.

The Swedes didn't enforce lockdown did they? Was always a gamble that although dont believe they have come off much if at all worse than us.

Germany benefited from a great testing system which is where we got caught out and many other countries, they basically managed very early on to isolate it from getting to the elderly and vulnerable using tests once they realised it came from skiers in Italy.

The BAME issue is one that needs looking at too, why have they been hit so hard? Obviously being very multicultural as a nation with a high BAME population may have impacted our figures too as their death rate is far higher for whatever reason and of course population density... you have to also bear in mind our density is probably actually higher for most people than the national figure as huge swathes of Scotland and the far north are wilderness and the majority of people in the UK live within a box around 250 miles from London to Hull and 100 or so miles to Bristol and up to Liverpool.

So many factors it is very hard to compare countries.

Regarding BAME - surely their culture of having extended family living all in one house would have exacerbated the spread. Whereas the traditional British way is to bundle the old folk off into a home when they become a burden.

This article, I think says it all, we are top of the league.

https://www.ft.com/content/6b4c784e-c259-4ca4-9a82-648ffde71bf0

The excess deaths is bad and probably a result of the way the policies were handled than actual Coronavirus as people stopped going hospital for other ailments due to fear or feeling like a burden on the health services.

I think the lack of clear guidance didn't help at all. Everything has been vague or open to interpretation in area's.

So Luton players in Championship have taken a wage deferral backdated to 1st May, but some interesting comments from our CEO on the PFA:

“I think the guidance the players got from the PFA has been pretty haphazard and quite unprofessional, because they have given authority for some clubs to go with deferrals with their squads, but other clubs not.

“We had to go through a process of demonstrating our financial statements and cash flows to Deloitte on behalf of the PFA, in order to get their approval to recommend that to the players.

“As a player, if you’re signed up to what is effectively one of the strongest unions in the world, you’re going to have to listen to them, so I don’t blame the players as much as I do the PFA.

“I’ve been having trouble with them for weeks now so it’s not a problem to me, but I’m pleased it is sorted and it will need to be an ongoing conversation, of course.

“We don’t know what’s happening in terms of unlocking protocols for the nation in a month’s time, so we have to follow those guidelines and ultimately the objective here is for us to financially get to a position where we are safely playing in front of a crowd again.”

Put my head above the parapet on this one I think but.....I like Gary Sweet a lot but im a little uneasy at someone in his position having a go at a union, even if it is one for professional footballers.

Sounds like the PFA have taken the approach of reviewing clubs individually to see if they can pay the wages and are just taking advantage of a situation to either furlough or force their members to take a cut, or if there is a genuine need to take a cut to ensure the long term viability of the business.

I know footballers are paid well but that seems quite fair to me, pretty sure the same thing has happened at my workplace for unionised workers, so dont see why it should be different for the players. Its literally what the union is for.

Plenty of issues with the PFA - first among them Gordon Taylor ridiculous salary but in this case I think they are doing what they are supposed to for their members.

Back in training on Monday, so only two weeks to prepare after nearly three months off! Have to say after this long it's hard to get too excited about tbh, let's just get it done and get on with next season.

Yeah, reminds me of the stick Mesut Ozil got for asking the perfectly reasonable question of what Arsenal, a club owned by a billionaire, are going to do with the money they save by him taking a wage cut. He got crucified in the press for that as if Arsenal were planning to use the money to buy PPE for nurses, but it was a perfectly reasonable question, you aren't making a worthwhile sacrifice if all that happens is your employer gets richer as a result.

With the extended costs of of keeping staff going etc I wonder if the 3 sides who lose out in the playoffs this season will really struggle next.

I'm sure we can all have a whip-round to cover Exeter's expenses if them winning it means we won't have to listed to Devon Lad next season.
