Who will have the most miles to travel to away games next season? I'd imagine it's either Carlisle or Hartlepool with it being a southern-centric league.

Our mileage has dropped dramatically from the season just gone, down from 9,150 to 7,746. There's an article on the BBC website about Premier League travelling distances and they've all got it easy - Swansea had the furthest with 4,129 miles. We can only dream of it being anywhere near that http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/32582509

I think Carlisle is about 12,000 miles, and then Hartlepool have the second furthest with 10,500. Not a fun time for Carlisle fans.

I thought that around half your usual travelling support last season was based around London?

Our round total is 5807.6 which must be the lowest we've ever had in the league. 11 away trips under 100 miles away for us, although that's obviously lower if you take into account the round distances. Orient our closest fixture next season at 9.1 miles away, is that the closest fixture in the league?

Ours is knocking around 6,600 which is ridiculous given the number of clubs near to us.

All fucking southern :ffs:

Granted Carlisle is a lengthy journey but it is a straight forward one for many. Arriving at a town or city is only half the task for many grounds in L2

Apples and oranges though as they have 4 fewer games to travel to.

Still a low total, even taking that in to account mind.

its probably true, but I think the Carlisle based support has dropped due to finances in the last few seasons, I know I was a 20 away game fan but struggle now because the long trips are for a start £35 for the coach place, then you've £20-22 for a ticket, you need to spent about £5-10 for food as your up at 5am and back at midnight, then if you drink or other things is another £10........can be £70-80 plus.......then if you add family.

but there is about 100 from Carlisle who will do all 23 away games and the 12,000 odd miles, regardless of the games being sat/midweek, or cost...............fair play to them mad that they are.....same with the 100 odd pool fans.

yup, ours is possibly the lowest ever at 5517 miles (our Vital Football site worked it out, I didn't).

Is it beyond the wit and wisdom of the football league to have 2 fri/sun weekends where Carlisle and Hartlepool host Plymouth and Exeter alternatively and then reverse it later in the season ?

In short - yes. Would be a good idea though.

That would be a very good idea. But yes, probably too good an idea for the FL.

For all the Mansfield fans moaning of the geography of League 2 for next season, there are still 11 teams who will travel more miles... Although, I appreciate they don't have many local games.

It's not great from our point of view but we have Notts Conty, York and Northampton at least all within an hour or just over. Bar that I think all the games will take 3 hours+ bar Stevenage, Cambridge, Wycombe, Luton and Barnet.

The total distance some Carlisle fans will be travelling is further than they have to travel to New Zealand...

My closest game from Manchester is accrington.

When you consider ive seen us play Macclesfield, Chester, Altrincham, rochdale, bury, Oldham, Stockport, crewe, tranmere, Wrexham - all of which are a shorter or similar distance, I do feel a bit cheated.

Looks fine for us then! No games right on our doorstep, but I consider anything within an hour to be local. Games like Mansfield and the London clubs are hardly marathons either. Really like the suggestion of the fri/sun games for the Carlisles and Exeters of this world. Would really help out the fans.

They don't use common sense.

we'll get Plymouth away in August which is the worst time ever to get them (Carlisle/pool should NEVER get an Exeter/torquay/Plymouth/yeovil in August/sept when the M5 is horrific) We will also get Exeter home and away Tuesday night, one of them probably in December when you have strong chance of postponement.

saying that as long as the short-trips are kept to Saturdays that is the key thing I suppose.....the rest you can accept.

Make it Friday-Monday on a bank-holiday weekend. The clubs could put on football-based activities for fans over the weekend... could be an event. Let's get some American style tailgating on the go.

Very inconsiderate of them to get promoted out of a league with the likes of Chester, Macclesfield, Stockport, Wrexham and Tranmere in it.

That only leaves August Bank Holiday and Easter.... If it were Fri / Sun fans would only need to book 2 hotel nights , then again still need to take Fri off work for many .... then again , again, it's only once a year as an away fan, worth a days holiday or sick
