Noticed there wasn't a thread for this one yet so thought I'd start it.

To me it looks like it should be a really good game. Both clubs have had some decent results recently and are looking upwardly mobile at this early stage of the season.

It will undoubtedly be a tough test for us and if we come back from Brammall Lane with anything we'll have done well. Having said that, I have an overwhelmingly positive feeling that we will get a good result, even if we are without Matty Taylor again. We have good players throughout the squad and our spirit is there for all to see, so regardless of who starts I am optimistic that we'll put in a strong performance.

800+ Gasheads are set to travel, which for a Tuesday is really decent (and a lot better than City took to Wednesday for a midweek game a couple of weeks ago!) and should make for a good atmosphere.

What are we thinking Gasheads/Blades?

Might have something to do with you not playing at Brammall Lane since the 80's.

It's still a fact!

Of course we were always going to take a few considering we haven't played at BL in years, but we generally travel pretty well anyway all things considered. Do you honestly think you're following to Wednesday was good considering your home attendances so far and the fact you've had a decent start to the season?

Sheffield in midweek at £27 a pop, I was surprised we even had 400 odd there. If it wasn't a big club you wouldn't have close to that, didn't even get 200 at Morecambe a few years ago in midweek did you?

Admittedly that is expensive for a football game and it would have put a few off, but your adult ticket prices are even more expensive for higher category games! I know they're cheaper than that for smaller games, but even then they are about the same sort of prices as Wednesday.

To be honest we may well have taken a pitiful following to Morecambe that year, but we were bloody awful and looked like we'd fall into the Conference so I'd say that was fair enough. You don't have that excuse as a top half Championship club! Plus, Morecambe is around 30 minutes further away.

I'm sure you know JJH that it wasn't a comment designed to provoke an argument, I was merely stating a fact!

If I was a Rovers fan (shudders!) I'd keep my head down when it comes to comparisons.

I meant last season mate, did you not have Morecambe in midweek as well or am I imagining it?

Yeah, I've no bother with it, your following is decent, ours was mediocre, but there are obviously reasons you're taking that number in there midweek, it's not the norm.

Could do with a win here then it really makes the point at scunny a good one too. I'm gonna predict a high scoring game with a 3-2 win for us.

When it comes to home attendances, yes.
But considering city's home attendances, their away following is pretty pathetic.

Anyway, moving on to tomorrow's game, we'll do well to come away with anything and I will take a draw right now. With the Chelsea lad Clarke-Salter joining up today, I think we'll see him starting ahead of Hartley at the back. Hopefully Taylor will be back, though, even if he is not, Easter put in a superb display on Saturday and will hopefully continue that into tomorrow's game.

If both bristol clubs were on a par on the pitch rovers away average would not be far behind city's at all in my opinion.

They've always had the bigger home gates but our away support has always been better in comparison

Bullshit.

You're so misguided, you think their away support is decent because the clubs that we've played every week most seasons in recent years Rovers haven't, hence why they travel well to bigger clubs at stadiums they rarely play at.

We were so unbelievably wank last season; Rovers had a season where they went up for the second consecutively, they still averaged less. Ridiculous comparison.

We had nearly 1,300 at £39 a pop on our last Saturday visit. What's your point?

That it was their first visit since 1990, by contrast you brought 4,600 for your first league visit since 1991.

OK then so say when you averaged 1300 in your league one title season what do you think rovers would average in a league one title season it would be 1100 at least

If the league was as northern as it was, about 1,000-1,100 I expect.

That's my point I said it wouldn't be far behind not that it would be better.

Because they know that they'd be punching above their weight coming up to this level, whereas we were going back to our natural level. I'm not attempting to come across as a condescending wanker, I always say that Rovers away support is very good for a club of their size and credit their followings as I have done in this thread.

Well we averaged 1,000 in conference and 1,300 when finishing third in league one last season... Point is you get over twice as many as us at home. Fair enough but you don't take twice as many away. It's fairly even

As I said, the league was very northern. Last season you had Oxford, Wycombe, Plymouth, Exeter etc that were all fairly local.

There were some bloody long trecks last season too, Morecambe, Carlisle, York, Hartlepool to name a few. We also averaged 1000 in the Conference and it would have been more but for low allocations at certain grounds. Our away suppport is very good.

This is one of the toughest matches of the season in my opinion. Sheff Utd are the favourites to win L1 and I don't think many would argue with that. After a slow start they've really hit their stride with 4 straight wins and an impressive draw at current leaders Scunthorpe.

Not sure whether he'll throw Clarke-Salter straight in as he only met his teammates today and Taylor is likely to be missing again. We'll also be without Sinclair in midfield who is suspended.

Hope to be proved wrong but I can't see us getting anything from this one.

Id avoid the topic of attendances if I were you guys, you will never come out favourably compared to us. Just enjoy your big day out, its not often youll get to play at grounds like Brammall Lane.

Can someone re name this thread "Rovers v City away followings".

Tough game tonight in front of a big crowd no doubt, good to see us still scoring goals on the weekend with out Matty Taylor in the team although I think he will be back in the line up tonight.

I can see DC playing the 5-3-2 tonight with maybe the Chelsea loanee Clarke-Salter coming into the back 5 who knows when it comes to DC tactics.

2-1 to Rovers

Our record away to the blades is abysmal (L4 D1 in the last five and last won in 1976) so i'm hoping we can at least get something out of the game which will be even more difficult if Taylor is not available. here's hoping we do ourselves justice and for a good game.

As for the rest of this thread i never understand why rovers fans invite city to have a pop at us over anything, they are obsessed with the club they've laughed at and looked down upon for years as it is, so why give them the opportunity to?
