Cardiff got their second win in a space of three days with a victory over inform Ipswich. Russell Slade's side put in another great performance to ensure the Bluebirds got their fifth win of the season.
The Bluebirds were the better side in the opening stages of the match, but never really threatened Gerken's goal. The only real chance coming from Pilkington who's curling effort was tipped over the bar by the Ipswich keeper. The Tractor boys also had chances to go ahead, with Conor Sammon and Williams both going close. However Ipswich did eventually break the deadlock, when Fabio was robbed near the left touchline, Murphy took control of the ball moved towards goal before firing a half volley into the bottom corner from about 25 yards. City looked to reply as soon as possible and did so in excellent fashion. Whittingham held off Jonny Williams, before turning and firing a superb drive into the top right corner from outside of the box. No team really threatened after that goal as the game slowly moved into half time.
Whatever Slade said at half time must have worked, as after only three minutes of the second half, Pilkington's driven cross was turned in by Macheda to make it 2-1. Cardiff were really dominating the game and Ipswich were struggling to cope with the constant pressure. This constant attack led to another goal, a deep cross found Sean Morrison, who flicked the ball back to Le Fondre and his scuffed shot took a deflection, and slowly trickled into the back of the net after wrong footing the keeper. Cardiff saw the final twenty minutes in with ease, not causing any trouble but absorbing any attacks Ipswich gave them.
The victory boosts Cardiff up to 10th in the league table, only three points off the play-off places. They travel to Millwall on Saturday, live on sky and will be hoping to get three back to back wins for the first time this season. Ipswich however have dropped to 9th place and will be back at home on Saturday to host Huddersfield Town. A match they will definitely want to win.
