It's possible, we've only ever started in a 4-4-2 set up so far this season but have tended to switch to 4-3-37 on about 60 minutes in order to help see games out/gain more control in midfield.

Kayal and Stephens have been crucial in providing the energy in the middle that allows us to play 2 up top, but I do think the 4-3-3 might better counteract your less conventional formation as you suggest. We're also slightly depleted in the wide areas atm with March our only fit "true" winger. Either way, we're likely to have to adapt to a slight change in personnel/system tonight.

What do you reckon's been the main reason for the recent improvement and resulted optimism among City fans of late? Seem to recall a lot of discontent over the lack of transfer movement during the summer, Cotterill looked like a beaten man after the first couple of games. Just taken a while to find your feet again at this level?
A combination of a couple of loan signings to give us some much needed depth as parkender says, and it taking a bit of time to get the balance right playing a 352 at this level.

In league 1 we were able to push both wingbacks right up the pitch and strangle teams in their own half, but with the extra quality on show in this league you can't get away with that and we were being destroyed on the counter attack. We've had to learn to be a bit more streetwise and pick and choose our moments to go forward, (when one WB goes on, the other holds back to form a back four, for instance). A couple of times lately Derrick Williams, a more defensive option, has come in for academy graduate Joe Bryan on the left to make us a bit more solid, including against Forest on Friday, and he may well start again tonight.

It's still a work in progress but we're getting there steadily. I do think 352 can be effective at this level, and, barring any disasters like Kodjia getting a long term injury, I can't see us being in any danger this season. Hopefully get a nice solid mid table finish that we can look to build on next year with the new stadium reaching completion.

What about your lot? It's a bit too long now to just be described as a good start, what do you rate your chances of staying up there for the long haul?

If we take Brighton's unbeaten record tonight, I urge all our players to take a lap of honour, winding up the home fans, jumping jubilantly and pretending we've won the league, much like Swindon did last year :D
I can see the humour in that but fook me no!
Take a point all day long from this one and no Rich, I have never heard a Bristolian call it Brizzle. Bristawl maybe but never Brizzle. I think it's a derogatory term which is supposed to wind us up and used to be funny.

Delighted with our start as you can imagine but seen it all too often how quickly things can change in this division. Come back to me around Christmas time!

Rosenior passed fit, we're lining up as normal then. Only change is Hunemeier in for Greer at CB.

Shouldn't have lost. Ah well.

Fuck off Baldock getting credited with that first goal. Blatant OG.

Helps my prediction league points....

Sounds promising though if we shouldn't have lost away to top of the league, hopefully can get a positive outcome from the Cardiff game next week

They dominated the game. Kodjia's magic was the only way we produced any opportunities. Left completely on his own at one end of the pitch as we played 5 CB's and hoped for a draw. Not much to be positive about.

Okay a little less positive.... How was Williams at LWB? And Bennett RWB?

We weren't dominated at all according to many Brighton and City fans at the game.

40% possession and 8 shots to Brighton's 17. This season has been the most depressing season support City because we actually had an opportunity to do well. I hate how inevitable everything is. You can see the goals coming from a mile off, whilst we rely on one man to produce a bit of magic.

Forest had 53% possession, 10 corners and 18 shots against us on Friday. Did they dominate?

For 60 minutes, yeah. Luckily Wilbraham appeared for ten minutes that night and we were quick enough to get a two goal advantage. Add to that Forest aren't very good at the moment and we're lucky enough to get a win.

Relying on one man to score your goals means we're going nowhere. If we had Gayle/Gray/JET we'd be sitting nice and cosy. Instead we're persisting with a 36 year old that's just not got the energy in him anymore. Barring a January miracle, we're going one way and it's certainly not up.

This season is just a fucking annoyance. We'll have enough financial power to stay up, but it'll just be a shit lower mid-table bore, and we'll be left wondering what it could have been.

I feel depressed as fuck tonight, and considering the display we put in I really shouldn't be, but it's happened far to often already this season.

Call me melo-dramatic, but the recent form I've reacted to far worse than any of the runs in the last time we were in the Championship, even under Johnson when we used to concede late, which is the point I'm about to make.

In 3 of our last 4 games, we have conceded in the 82nd or later minute. This has cost us a total of 5 points. If we had those 5 points, we'd be sat comfortably in mid-table potentially only two wins off the top 6. It's infuriating. Every single time we've conceded late, I've shown little to no emotion. It's so predictable, every single time you know it's on the cards. It's sickening. It's so deflating to be a City fan at the moment.

Come on Jordan you know they didn't dominate, you were very positive yourself in your verdict of the game.

We'll be down there come the end, that's pretty much given but let's not get too downhearted. There are so many teams doing as shit as/worse than us which gives me hope that we'll be alright and the last two performances have been good, if not yielding as many points as we'd have liked. I agree that there is an over reliance on Kodjia at the moment but bolster in January and we'll be OK up there (easier said than done as we've already found out). Let's just pray he stays fit until then.

If someone had offered me that as soon as we'd got promoted I probably would have taken it, you'd be underestimating the division not to.

No, I'm exactly the same. I'm just moaning constantly at the minute, frustrated at where we are and frustrated at where I feel like we'll inevitably end up. People are sick of my moaning so I've had my final night on twitter/OTIB tonight. I am a moaning b**tard but I just want City do well. :(

Feel apathetic towards everything now.

Edit - Actually, apathetic is completely the wrong word because I do feel concern. Just fed up of feeling that way and moaning all the time!

Watched the game today as I was up north Friday/the weekend, no way would I say Forest dominated, we were all over them at the start, and even later on created the better goal scoring opportunities. For the majority I'd have said the game was a mixed bag, another day Hobbs(?) header could have gone in if not for a good save from Frankie, Lansbury's effort could have made it, but likely Wilbs would have finished one of his hattrick chances too. Forest was a deserved win.

Yeah, and so would I in May, until we started chucking about £8m and £9m offers here and there in the summer, and Keith Burt giving us false hope after we failed to sign McGuire by saying 'this is the calibre of player we're going to be after' and they gave some real false optimism to our fanbase, which is partly why everyone feels so deflated.

This division is of a high standard, don't get me wrong, but most of it is money orientated, and we have the financial power to be right up there, whereas some of the clubs we're currently competing with like Rotherham, MK Dons etc, with the greatest respects don't have a pot to piss in.

I feel the same, it's shit. I miss L1.
