Le Fondre has gone on loan to Bolton, Peltier signed yesterday. Darren Purse is unimpressed!

Copying the "Leeds United Bollocks" thread I thought it may be handy to have a thread to track the fall from prominence of Cardiff City.

In order to 'fall from prominence', one first has to be there.

You may possibly be confusing the terms "laughing stock" and "prominence".

I know we do that a lot, too.

Being in the Premier League is a prominent position.

Not really. Like us, Cardiff made it into the lower reaches and were forever struggling. It's like saying a man falling in the sea in Dover is 'swimming the Channel'. There's no real difference between the top five clubs in the Championship and the bottom ten clubs in the PL, save for a few journeymen.

Sorry should have added: indeed, Cardiff are struggling in the Championship now. The choice of the likes of Peltier, Revell et al more likely shows that you are focused on (at least) staying in the Championship. Two years ago, we chose to continue to believe we were PL quality while losing to fairly mediocre clubs every week. Slade's a better manager than Saunders or Solbakken for the Championship but I don't believe he'll take you up; only stop you going down.

Did the PL promotion genuinely feel like a success to Cardiff fans? I know if it was me, I would have just felt hollow.

I remember at the time of it happening, in previous years I'd have been jealous of Cardiff accomplishing promotion, but due to the rebrand, I felt no envy whatsoever.

I just pitied the diehard Cardiff supporters. Not the plastics that couldn't have cared less about the rebrand and were there in their droves every week in the Premier League.

According to a Welsh paper they have almost completed their wage bill reductions from £35m to £23m a season. I'm guessing this is to be ready to pass FFP?

Honestly as bad as it looks, and will have a negative effect on them this season, they will be in a better position next season for it. I wish we had done the same last year, but I suppose we were closer to a promotion chance so couldn't risk it. We've had to feel the knock on this season.

Like my flippant remark, that's not entirely fair. A lot of them were very unhappy. I do wonder, though, what the feelings were of the 194 who made the midweek long-haul journey to Teeside. Are they of the 'happy in red' brigade? Or the old guard?

While we all like a giggle at the misfortunes of other clubs, I think football is being redefined in our age, and not really for the good. I wouldn't want the Baggies or Walsall to go out of business or go into non-league because then there's no rivalry, no banter.

I went to the game on Saturday as I'm based here at the moment, and Cardiff were bloody dire. Very one dimensional (hoof it up to Kenwyne Jones), and Reading had lots of space on either flank and exploited it well. Defensive positioning was poor and the midfield was lacking in creativity. Although maybe the last point is due to Slade's style of play.

Okay it was only one game and maybe they'll improve as time goes on but I'm not 100% sure Slade will be the man to lead their return to the PL. Maybe he's the manager to stabilise them, but Revell for example looked a bit out of place and if that's an example of his signings then it doesn't look good.

Slade is a very good motivator and managed to get the best out of very average players for us, mixed with the good ones we had.

He is however, a very very stubborn man - It has to be done HIS way. Tactically he does struggle for a plan B as well.

I always thought that when Cardiff appointed him, it would do well to last a year there and eventually end up back in Leagues One or Two - Which is about his level.

Was his way as boring with Orient? It was strikingly bad football on Saturday. It isn't just hoofing it to Kenwyne Jones, it's complete dependence on set pieces. Throwing it up the line until they win a corner. He's already lost the backing of a lot of fans.

Sometimes yes, we had a small budget for 3 of the 4 full years he was here, at times we were dull to watch but capable of getting results, due to Slade being able to get all of his team fighting for the cause and getting the best out of the very good players we had like Moses Odubajo and Dean Cox - Two players in League One more than capable of finding that little bit needed to get a result when all looks a bit doomed.

To Slades credit, he did sign some good League One players for us. But as I said, I believe Cardiff City is far too big for him, the fans won't be as patient with him as we were due to our circumstances.

When I wrote prominence, I only meant it in terms of league position and 'status'. Personally I've got very little love for the Premier League. I suspect my views are very similar to yours.

The couple of hundred who travelled to Middlesbrough were probably there pre-red and also supported the club through their red period too. I think it's incorrect to assume that those who "embraced" red were new supporters enticed by a winning side. It's a lot more complex than that.

As a whole though I do think the Cardiff City support showed themselves to be cowardly, supine and now fickle. Even small protests against blue only came after the football club started to falter and found themselves in mid-table of the second flight (a league position that is actually above the club's historical average).

The football club, with their season ticket promotion: "Bluebird for Life" campaign have been cynical in the extreme. When I cancelled my season ticket only a couple of seasons ago, in the wake of the change to red, I was told "there are plenty of people willing to take your place". It didn't take long for those to disappear.

January was always going to be a difficult time for Slade. Any company that makes it clear it's cutting costs and moving on employees is going to find motivating its existing staff hard. I think once the transfer window is over Slade will get time to build a bit of togetherness in the squad to get the 3/4 wins that the club needs from the remaining games to stay in the division.

Promotion to the Premier League is a fantasy for Cardiff now. Next season will be a Championship survival campaign rather than a promotion one.

Nicky Maynard has gone back to Bristol City - good move for him I think, whilst Craig Noone did his best to escape to Norfolk on transfer deadline day, but couldn't quite make it. He'll have to wait until the summer.

Cardiff have brought in a striker from Chesterfield called Doyle for £750,000 as well as a couple of young lads from Everton. Their job is to snare as many points as possible to secure fourth bottom in this division. Next season looks like a more difficult proposition.

I must have misread one of the rumour tweets as facts from yesterday! Whoops.

It would be a good move for him though... ahem

Cardiff City have debts that amount to approx £170m. They lost £12m during their season in the Premier League.

It's a fascinating situation down there. Tan is owed millions that the club will never be able to repay.
Yet Tan has an interest in Serbian football as well as MLS, so shutting the club down would harm his reputation.

If the club went bust I think the fans would struggle to set up a Phoenix club, heart of the club has been ripped out by the change to red. Very apathetic bunch of fans these days.

The only way Tan can remotely begin to get his coin back is to asset strip.

I am probably in the minority of City fans but
It's sad for me to see how soulless Cardiff have become.

We had some great games against them when I was a teenager and the atmosphere was always electric. It always felt more tense in league one though and it seemed to lose its spark in the championship. Shame really.
