Charlton managed to continue their fantastic unbeaten start with a very hard fought win against a quality watford side at the Valley.

Against the run of play, Charlton were in front after 3 minutes. Jordan Cousins worked the ball well to in form Igor Vetokele, who was fouled by Gomes.

As he has done already this year, Yoni Buyens slotted home from 12 yards in front of a sell out Watford end.

The game was almost tied a minute after however. A good dummy by Vydra left Deeny open on the edge of the box, but only managed to hit the edge of the post.

Watford threatened all game but were denied by two good stops by Henderson, solid teamwork from Charlton and the referee. A goal was disallowed in the second half for offside.

With six minutes of added time the charlton fans were holding their breath, but when Anya sliced a cross into his own fans in the 96th minute, a sigh of relief was heard around the valley. The points were secure.

Overall a solid team display from Charlton, with Watford wondering how they didn't win the game.

Bob Peeters men march on.

Good win for Charlton this, I have been impressed with their performance so far this season. Do you believe there is the realistic chance to make a fist at promotion?

I think if we keep up our performances and get a top quality striker we can get a playoff place. Already beaten derby Wigan and Watford and drawn to Brighton away. Compared to last year it's a dream. Hard game against wolves but I think we can steal a win.

Oscar Garcia has today taken himself into hospital with chest pains, so he won't be in charge for tommorrow night's game at Blackpool, let's hope he is fine.

Remember this game (wow nearly 4 years ago!) - they scored the early penalty then we could have had one.

We had lots of the ball but didn't score clearly.

Garcia never returned!

Funny how both teams have gone in different directions (for now..) with pretty much the same sort of set up in terms of the owners.

I guess as Chris Powell said at the time we just got in better quality to help us get promoted etc.

Would love to ask the OP what exactly he thought ‘The Great Escape’ was?

This game was in September and we were unbeaten.

As for the play-offs, we’re currently 6th so no reason we can’t make them.

What happened to Igor Vetokele? He was quite the player a few years ago.
On loan to St Truiden unsurprisingly.

Another masterclass from Katrien Meire, giving him a 5year deal on daft wages which Roland didn't want to pay so has been out on loan for 3 years.

Shame, he would terrorise defenders in L1.
