Won't be at this one, but it'll be interesting to see how we go.

We have a glut of good attacking midfielders currently so I would love to see all of them utilised in free role/ rotation, something like:

Bowery
Cox - Cornick - Massey
Weir - Atangana
Semedo - Erichot - O'fuckweneedacb - Clohessy
Cisak

Expect possibly Cornick to be dropped and Palmer to play instead however. Jury is out on Semedo, not convinced about his defending at all. Erichot did not convince me against Cheltenham on Saturday (having seen the stats he had a 37% pass accuracy, that's WOW levels), Parkes is out, Pollock may play but apparently had a knock according to Dulcet and no-one except me likes Clohessy. In short, defensively we're a bit fucked. Actually expect a new signing this week.

Fuck knows what's going on with Simpson.

Looking at Newport's squad I think they're a bit meh, should be a game we're looking to win, no disrespect to them. Would have been intrigued to see how Turley, Labadie and Parkin do, plus they have the best named player in the division, Jazzi Barnum-Bobb.

I think we'll win, maybe 2-1.

Tough one to call this one; I was sincerely hoping that our strong summer signings represented a more stable backroom environment this season, but this looks unlikely to be the case given the Simpson, Coxy and McCallum rumours going round the club, what a shame.

Newport have lost both their games 2-3 so far, so they can obviously score, but in a similar vein to us a leaky defence looks the most pressing concern, therefore a score draw or narrow home victory looks most likely.

I expect Orient to line up with:

Cisak
Semedo Erichot Hunt Clohessy
Massey Kelly Atagana Cox
McCallum Bowery

Cox and McCallum deserve to start after Tuesday's near-heroics, and need minutes under their belt.

2-1 Orient
McCallum and Cox to return to form (against the owner's wishes)

We're going to be slow starters, the virus we had the other week didn't help, plus it appears we need to offload Simpson or risk a transfer embargo.

If we lose this, then our fanbase will have its annual old man meltdown early.

I don't think McCallum and Cox are fit enough to start yet myself, but both great to bring off the bench for at least 45mins.

I quite like Sean Clohessy as well, but I think his confidence has taken a massive dent in the last 9 months, since Hendon left he has been played out of position and his confidence is clearly low.

Playing the likes of Semedo is going to take time, he has done ok at left back but he is clearly a winger, blooding a young centre half is the hardest thing to do in football IMO as for the Centre back positions and understanding, are the most important on the pitch - Which is why Aron Pollock will need at least one full season under his belt.

I don't mind Ollie Palmer, but having him in the side means the team has to play to his strengths - Running the channels and winning headers, seeing as his technical ability with the ball at his feet is limited.

As for centre midfield I think Weir and Atangana will start - We need Weir to get fit quickly.

I'll take a point. We haven't ironed out last seasons inability to not concede stupidly late in the games, so it really wouldn't shock me to see Orient grab a 93rd minute equaliser or winner.

Not sure this can be any worse than last season's corresponding fixture, can it? 1-1 with far too much hoofball from us.

Parkes and Bowery hopefully back which is a boost, Bowery hasn't look fit to me so far during pre season.

There will be goals in this, both sides can score but seem very shaky at the back. Newport I think will be ok this season, but they will be in the bottom 8 IMO. Jon Parkin susepended, he always scores against us......

I expect more direct football if Palmer plays and the crowd to get on the teams back. If we don't win the knifes will be out for Becchetti who is trying to force our best striker out.........

We will lose.

I wait with baited breath to hear how this went. I on the other hand had an excellent afternoon watching an excellent ball playing and intelligent Colchester win. Playing 4-2-3-1. Hint hint!

Well, the odds on another goal were something like 5/1 around the 80th minute mark, so I was tempted and thought surely the O's will get an equaliser. Lost myself 20 quid

Llamas, it's hard to rate a side when the oppo's very poor like we were today. Still expect Colchester not to make the top 10 come May.

We've got some serious, serious issues after that. Bar the first ten minutes we were awful. I've not seen a group of players look so low on confidence after only one game.

Newport offered little after they scored, but so did we. Palmer should've made it 1-1 though - another awful miss to go with the collection, but he is very much part of our teams problem.

That stat about Erichot from last Saturday.......looked justifyed after his performance today.

Newport I thought were very limited, their number 13 Marlon Jackson I thought was shocking, Feeney was going mental about him because he didn't keep the ball well at all. But they had a plan and defended well, against a side who despite shelling out big money, looked limited themselves going forward.

Don't like to make silly statements after only 2 games, but on that performance we will go down like we did in 2015 - Limited effort and desire to go with limited quality this time.

Hessenthaler will be the first manager to be sacked easily, no way is he good enough after watching todays performance and there is no way the players are playing for him.

Kind of agree with that, but Colchester's movement and vision would cause a lot of teams trouble, Cambridge were hilarious at times though. My favourite bit was when Guthrie went for a run, Legge and Roberts both dived in without winning the ball. But I'll take it to the other thread ;)

Point I'm making though is though that we're rigidly sticking to 4-4-2 when we have the players with the movement, flair, technical ability that, actually, we can sacrifice a striker especially when without Simpson we don't have an abundance of quality (Palmer and Gnanduillet). Especially against Newport, who with respect will most likely not be top half, why don't we take it to them with players who can rip a defence a new one instead of Ollie Palmer? Having not seen the game I might be jumping to conclusions.

A win is a win for us, no matter how poor we are haha. Not quite sure what Feeney sees in Jackson, but i'm assuming when Parkin is available he'll be up top.

Newport have more than a touch of the Wycombes about them. Fully deserved the win, mind.

That was just like watching virtually every game from last season: a shit performance against a shit side despite having 90% of the ball, creating nothing. No movement, no desire, no effort. Fucking abysmal.

Palmer's miss was epic.

you mean "cheating whining bastards", "hoofmongers with no decent strikeforce", "lovely family-friendly supporter-owned club" or something else?

The first one, though their striker made Ollie Palmer look like, er, Sean Devine. On an off day.
