Can hardly say it's surprising can we? A big loss at home to Crewe the other night after being 2-0 up with the form Crewe are in and the importance of the game. They actually don't have the worst squad this season either with pace and goals in attacking areas. Who will come in and replace him Colchester fans?

His interview sounded pretty desperate on Tuesday night so it's certainly no surprise. Losing at home to Crewe at the moment is pretty bad under any circumstances.

I thought they'd wait until Rafa's future was settled tbh.

Nevertheless, there'll be a long queue of top managers heading to A12 Junction 28 Stadium or whatever they call Colchester's place these days.

Looks like another internal appointment which the fans are already not happy about, superb!

Last external appointment was Boothroyd in 2009, that's utterly ridiculous

The only decent internal appointment would be if Big George hangs up his boots. That might even keep both their supporters happy.

They've already got a Big George on the coaching staff and he is clearly the natural choice of manager.

These managers getting sacked must fucking hate Steve Davis. They get sacked after a few poor weeks whilst Davis doesn't even have to pretend to know what he's doing for two solid years and his job is the safest in the country.

I think he was the wrong appointment in the first place but, to be fair to him, he was near enough on a hiding to nothing from day one. He was announced the same day that Joe Dunne left which immediately had fans up in arms - the majority didn't want Dunne to go, so to replace him instantly with the academy manager gave everyone the impression of a cheap, cost-cutting appointment rather than taking the time to look at any applications.

It's been said for the past couple of seasons now that "if we survive we'll be over the worst of it" in reference to the budget cuts and struggling each year, but this year it genuinely seemed to hold true. The academy players are becoming stronger, meaning we can spend more of the budget on better quality for the first eleven which has brought in the likes of Owen Garvan and Marvin Sordell. We have shown it in spells, but on paper this should be a much more comfortable season.

Apart from a few games, we have looked threatening going forward for the first time in a long time. But we're on course to concede 106/107 goals this season which isn't acceptable and can only realistically result in relegation - it has to be sorted out. In many a post-match interview Humes' answer to finding the solution was pretty much: "I don't know what to do." If that is sorted though, then we will be perfectly fine this year.

Last season the additions of Kaspars Gorkss and Bongani Khumalo at centre half gave us the much needed experience that helped us to survive. It was imperative in the summer that we brought someone in of that ilk, but instead we signed George Elokobi who was always more of a left back to us and doesn't match the calibre of those two. It hasn't worked.

Humes' inexperience shone through in many ways, he rarely seemed to change anything tactically when a game was crying out for it, always made like for like substitutions into the same system, always hung his young players out to dry in post-match interviews, appeared to fall out with a number of experienced players and often came across a bit prickly towards supporters.

To me, we really need someone with a bit of experience from outside who can come in with a fresh perspective and work on tightening things up at the back. Stop playing gung ho full backs that leave the two central defenders so exposed all the time and instead let their primary focus being on defending for a start.

Unfortunately, the chairman said in his conference yesterday that he doesn't expect to be appointing someone from outside the club. I'm not sure if that will change an awful lot, but time will tell. There's a decent squad there for someone to work with, and it shouldn't take too much tweaking to start moving upwards a little again.
