Meanwhile, possibly coming to a ground near you soon, Margate will be looking to go full-time should they win promotion through the play-offs. http://www.thanetgazette.co.uk/Margate-considering-time/story-26380007-detail/story.html

Bob Laslett really is deluded

Thinks they can be the next Southampton or Brighton & now wants to go full-time on crowds of 5-600 :fl:

His logic no doubt is that being full-time gives Margate a competitive edge in the Conference South (next season, or whenever) and with a successful side, the crowds will come with it too. The flaw in his plan is that non-league football is a virtual bottleneck, there seems to be more and more clubs looking to invest serious amounts of cash into their team to get them promoted to the 'promised land' of the Football League, and yet they can't all go up at once...

Next year is already looking far more competitive than this one and I'm struggling to see an obvious relegation candidate in this league. Oh well, with Maidstone in here next year and possibly Dulwich too there should be a spike of activity on this thread.

By the looks of the table the only thing playing for today is the playoff positions. For Havant only a win and Borehamwood losing along with Basingstoke not winning can get 2nd spot.

Great to end the season with a win, and was good to finally see the players playing for the manager and each other. Looked like a team, rather than a bunch of individuals.

Probably over 100 applicants for the job now.

Confirmed that we've had over 100 applicants and Peter Varney wants somebody appointed ASAP. Could be an interesting week!

Go on Joe, tell us who you know has applied for the job. You must have been told some names. ;)

No news on our end apart from AFC Rushden & Diamonds announcing a home friendly against us in July.

Edit: I lie, Jonathan North mopped up the awards at our presentation night on Saturday, not exactly surprising.

I have absolutely no idea mate. The only one I know of is Neil Ruddock. His application probably went in the bin right away.

I have heard that 3 or 4 are involved in Premier League Clubs atm in some way or another. Other than that, the usual names have been bandied about. Daish (fuck no), Peter Taylor, Andy Hessenthaler, Terry Brown, etc...

I'd imagine we will have somebody in place by the end of the week though.

I wouldn't want any of the people you've mentioned there as manager, maybe Terry Brown at a push...

The Conference National lot have got started on this so a confirmed list of teams in the Conference South for 2015-16:

Dartford
Basingstoke Town
Havant & Waterlooville
Gosport Borough
Concord Rangers
Ebbsfleet United
Hemel Hempstead Town
Chelmsford City
Eastbourne Borough
Wealdstone
St. Albans City
Bath City
Sutton United
Bishop's Stortford
Weston-Super-Mare
Maidenhead United
Hayes & Yeading United
Maidstone United
Truro City

Oxford or Lowestoft will be moved South, I'm confident it will be the latter.

I wouldn't mind Terry Brown. I wanted him from day one, but it wasn't to be. The others are all no's for me.

We need to get somebody with experience.

Just one new ground for me next season - Lowestoft/Oxford City. Hopefully Poole can come up as that will be new for me.

Do we not need a new thread for the new season?

I'd wait until the playoffs and shake-ups in the pyramid have taken place before starting a new thread.

Possibly going to Havant vs Borehamwood on wednesday although its hard enough giving away a spare ticket at Pompey let alone getting a mate to buy a ticket for Hawks.

Chris Kinnear and Liam Daish have both applied apparently.
To hear that Chris Kinnear has applied is extremely surprising. Why would want to leave a successful Dover side and drop to Conf South? Ok Ebbsfleet would have a vastly superior budget to Dover but still?

He's not agreed a new contract there yet by all accounts.

I don't want him here anyway. Grade A c***.

Huge gamble.

I really like D-Mac as a person and a coach, but for me he needs somebody alongside him who is experienced. I hope that comes in the coming days...I really do.

He's a passionate lad and won't have "favourites".

The only thing that has pissed me off about this is, yet again, we haven't fucking interviewed anybody. Over 100 applicants and Varney has just gone "go on Daryl, the job is yours" for fucks sake.

Bit awkward for Kinnear, applying for the job whilst technically still at Dover, only to not even get interviewed.

I didn't go but Havant lost 2-0 at home to Borehamwood. On the official twitter it says some BHWD fans were thrown out for causing trouble. Didn't know Conf South was known for trouble.

for the teams looking to be at the top end next season I'd think they'll want $hitehawk gone, if they fail this time they'll be installed as favourites for next season (unless, we hope, their backer pulls out over the summer). Either of them in the conference is tinpottedness to the maximum level. Tranmere will face non-league reality the day they play either of these two next season.
