I suspect the journalist has heard that the NL is likely to void the season but has then made a false assumption about what this means for promotion and relegation.

Current leaders Barrow, along with second placed Harrogate Town, would be promoted to League Two, while Fylde and Chorley would be relegated to the National League North.

i could imagine this would lead to court cases
why only 2 down?

Presumably because the step 2 playoffs would be called off, but then why would Harrogate be promoted as well?

Someone needs to replace Bury.

I'd expect the EFL to want to protect its existing members (Stevenage) rather than replace them with a National League side.

Agree, and York (assuming PPG) and Havant could challenge on the inconsistent treatment between different NL divisions.

The FL won't accept 2 new members of they're not going to relegate anybody.

Saying that, Barrow are the likely champions and Harrogate are the strongest of the rest, and would be my favourites to win the play offs, if they took place.

Will they rip up their fake pitch or will they do a Sutton?

That looks like a massive assumption to me.

Weirdest thing about that is that he’s been in football for 20+ years and doesn’t know what happens when a match is abandoned.

Oh I think he does. He knows it depends at what stage the match is abandoned. Sometimes, the score will stand.

If they end the season the top 2 should go up.

However, why are they asking to end the season when the FL have shown no inclination (to date) to do so.

So on that basis Maidenhead are going to be relegated despite having a game in hand on ebbsfleet and would go above them with a draw?

Maidenhead would stay up on PPG.

makes sense.

If the season is null and void in the conference on that assumption Stevenage wouldn’t go down and barrow would go up to make up the numbers.

For me the fairest way to end the season is PPG. I can also understand why the National League have called it off early as most teams will run on 44 week contracts until the end of April.

If the FL decide to keep Stevenage up, then Barrow will probably be promoted anyway to fill their quota of 24 teams.

EDIT - Since I was bored, here's how the league would look if decided by Points per Game

I'm willing to bet that teams in the EFLL2 sides don't want to protect Stevenage!

Possibly not, but they'd have to pay Stevenage parachute payments then. If they kept them up, that's one fewer team they have to give money to.

As I have always said, finish the season whenever possible.

I agree, but if most chairmen get their way that won't happen. It's surely going to be a choice between Barrow or nobody?

Who do you think should fill the empty EFL place then (if any)?

If you're going to void the season then run L2 with 23 teams. No one should fill it.

The season has to be completed, total cop out if it isn't. But it's looking that way.
