Sauce? They've consistently been a point or two behind Labour in most polling, so any poll showing a three point Con lead is likely to be an outlier. Not that I'd want to facts to get in the way of your :fish:-ing or anything...

Macclesfield Town/Manchester City. It's complicated.
Wonder if Spear was a staunch blairite in the 90s so he could always base his entire personality on his smug satisfaction of 'backing' a winner.

not staunch mate, but I quite liked him especially after the chapter 4, as that was my main issue with socialism

The reliable UKPOLLINGREPORT from the 24th feb 2015:-

The bigger picture remains the same. The Conservatives probably haven’t moved ahead, or we’d be seeing that across most of the polls, when actually they are averaging out at a tiny Labour lead. Neither is there is big swing to Labour, or we’d be seeing that across most of the polls, when actually they all just seem to be showing normal variation around the margin of error. In terms of the Labour vs Conservative race, 2015 so far has been largely static. The only trend that may be meaningful is the drop in UKIP support.

Things are pretty much the same and it looks like no party will have a majority.

Just for a little balance, Lord ashcrofts poll see's Labour 4% clear of the Tories.

Slightly off-topic, but Malcom Rifkind is coming into my school on Thursday to give a talk. What should I ask him? Needs to be worded tactfully or will not be allowed to ask it.

What would be different about the Conservative Party now if you'd been successful in your leadership bid?

It might be genuinely interesting, and even if not, you can start talking about him not shaking off the old Tory sleaze accusations :D

Why are you an avaricous c*** for whom a salary over £70k isn't enough? That's what I'd ask him.

Not disputing that. Doesn't mean £70k isn't a good salary wherever you live. These guys blather on about being in it out of a commitment to public service. And for some of them it's true. But the terms are clear. If you're motivated primarily by money, go and work for a bank or a tech company. If you're dedicated to public service or want to go down in history in some way, accept you'll earn less and be a politician.

yeh but you cant have it all ways, you either give them great credit for taking a lower wage than they can get, or you suggest wages elsewhere are too high, either way Malcolm and most MPS could earn way more.

I'm not having it both ways. All I'm saying is that you can't excuse corruption simply because MPs could earn more elsewhere.

I think it was on Question Time that I watched a debate on the topic of whether politicians should be able to have close career ties with private businesses.

In my opinion, the two should be kept seperate as conflicting interests encourage corruption.

The Tories will win again thankfully with a coalition with King Farage.

Will be the greatest partnership of all time.

Scary shit. The Tories have cut the police budget by 26% since 2010 and are proposing another 20% if they're re-elected. Seriously, how can any right-minded person consider voting for them? It truly amazes me.
All Home Office departments (with the exception of some counter terrorism teams) facing substantial cuts too.

It's not really a Labour vs Tory issue though. If you think Labour would oppose cuts to the police and HO budgets you're going to be very disappointed.

Admittedly Labour have come up with a handful of good policies, most notably the mansion tax, but it still feels for the most part like fiddling round the edges.

Probably the most bonkers example is the proposed tuition fee cut from £9,000 to £6,000 per annum. Piecemeal. Not a substantive change in any way. Can anyone really imagine a prospective student deciding not to go to uni because of a £27,000 debt they won't have to pay unless they earn enough who would have gone had it been an £18,000 debt on the same terms? All that policy does is give a hint of Labour being 'nicer' while leaving a major funding gap.

I suppose what I'm saying is that while I agree that voting Tory is a bad move, it's not like they're coming out with bonkers stuff Labour and the LDs wouldn't consider.
