Fine by me - said earlier that I don’t want to get promoted behind closed doors, let alone by some boardroom decision. Although I probably don’t speak for the club there to be honest!

Nobody wants to be promoted in the boardroom if the alternative is being promoted on the pitch - but that's not the situation here. And there isn't a single Notts fan who would say "no thanks, we'd rather stay in the National League". Yourself included.

The fact is, it looks like one team is going up (minimum), so surely that has to be Barrow? The stuff about Notts getting some reprieve is bollocks and certainly wouldn't be voted through by the other clubs. Oh, but you'd be happy with being reinstated in the boardroom, right?

Nope, I wouldn’t. To either.

If we can’t finish the season in front of fans, and obviously that looks essentially impossible, then I think it’s pointless and I would void it. This is a selfish view and our owners, Ardley and the players deserve more than that (as do a number of other clubs), but that’s what I think.

I think that’s a fairer outcome than Barrow being promoted because they happened to be top at an arbitrary point of the season when a random virus pitched up, but appreciate that others will see that the other way round.

In terms of what I want to happen - something that doesn’t affect Notts at all. And us all to be back watching football safely in a few months.

So you think it's fairer to deny everyone the chance for promotion? There is no way in the world you'd want to null and void it if you were top, no matter how much you protest.

Yes, I think it’s fairer that no one gets promoted than the team who were top at an arbitrary point in the season gets promoted. I don’t think that’s a particularly outrageous statement.

Yes. When we were in League Two a couple of years ago, Portsmouth won the title despite only being top for the last ten minutes of the season. That’s the point of playing a full 46 game season.

I’m not even convinced I would give Liverpool the title in the Premier League if the season can’t be completed, let alone a team four points clear with nine games left.

It's not arbitrary. It's the table as at the latest point teams were legally allowed to play games.

But you would have been content with staying in League 2 based on the arbitrary mismanagement of funds by the Bury chairman.

As it looks to me, you say you don't want to be promoted, but if anyone else is promoted then you wouldn't be happy with that. How about looking it from the perspective that Barrow and Harrogate have both had their best-ever chance of promotion to the Football League taken away from them by a virus - we aren't being rewarded by a virus.

Any Notts fan kicking up a fuss because they are being denied a chance to compete for promotion - fair enough, but there is no other option. Any Notts fan saying null and void because they don't want anyone else going up - bitter.

No, I would rather Bury still existed. I’ve got no interest in us being reprieved now either.

The point is that everyone has had something taken away by the virus. Barrow and Harrogate their best ever shot at the Football League? Sure. But also Boreham Wood. Halifax and Stockport their shot at redemptive play-off promotions after sinking to the depths. Notts a possible first ever trip to the new Wembley twice over, and our own redemption a year after our lowest ever point. Halesowen and Concord a dream Trophy final (assuming that’s going too). It goes on into the North and South. And all the leagues below that, which have already been voided.

What I’m saying basically is that it’s shit for everyone. Now we’ve voted to end the season, there’s no way of giving everyone a chance at achieving what they could’ve done this year. Yes, there’s an option that means it’s less shit for Barrow, and maybe for Harrogate. But is that fairer? I don’t think so.

It’s certainly not bitterness, for what it’s worth. It doesn’t matter whether it’s the league Notts are in or the Romanian third division, that’s how I see it. I’ve got nothing against Barrow or Harrogate at all.

Not to mention teams that have won their null and void leagues, or in a position at least as good as Barrow.

The Notts fans on here are a pretty placid and sensible bunch compared to the ones on the "Views from the Kop" Forum....

I find most fans on a general forum are .

People are just more bias on their own club forums.

Believe me, there is virtually no-one in league 2 that wishes for Stevenage to remain in the league, presumably apart from Stevenage fans.

The issue in league 2 is easier to decide as Stevenage were 10 adrift having lost the last 9 in a row - my side mansfield in 21st - were/are 1 point closer to Stevenage in 24th to the playoffs.

The only issue that could muddy the waters further is the perilous financial position of Macclesfield, who have already been docked points for failing to fulfil a fixture/financial late payments to players.
I've missed all this- could someone provide details on why Stevenage are so hated? Thanks.

You're in the fortuitous position of supporting a club that you can reasonably expect will more than likely go up sooner rather than later, if not this season maybe be next or the one after. For some, this is a season their club most likely won't repeat for another 10 years, if at all. My club finished second in Division 3N when only the champions went up into Division 2. It never finished second again. It finished 3rd in Division 3, when only 2 went up. It never finished 3rd again. It never finished bottom of any national division until automatic relegation was introduced. Within 6 seasons of the introduction, it finished bottom. We reached the National League play off final a year before it was moved to Wembley, because the works went on longer than expected. We haven't been to the final since. History is often a simple matter of being in the right place at the right time and it's time my club got a break. :ds:

The list is too long to be bothered to type.

Hopefully they won’t be the leagues problem soon

The dilatory nature of their support, their away followings to either Underhill or the Hive have been pathetic compared to what we bring to theirs and our average attendance has been lower than theirs for the past decade. I just get the feeling that their fan base is not committed and they started out as exiled Spurs fans.
Nothing is more shabby and dispiriting than a new town falling into disrepair.

Views from the Kop has turned into a cesspit. It's more a political forum for reactionaries with a bit of football thrown in now and again.

It can be an amusing read. Peoples views on things on there differs somewhat from reality

There's no perfect answer, any final table is a guess.
I'm really disappointed that the National League just went ahead and cancelled the season first without thinking on the conclusion at the same time or seemingly being in contact with the FL to see what their plan is. The idiots have now opened up a pathway for the FL to cancel automatic relegation for future seasons which would be dreadful.
I wouldn't grant Liverpool the title although I've no doubt they'd win it.
I'm not at all sure Barrow would have won the league but if one team goes up how do you make it anyone other than them ?

Despite what the Harrogate MD said about null and void not being an option to clubs, surely it has to be? Otherwise what would they be voting for? PPG Table v what exactly, what other criteria is there to finalise the season that doesn't involve teams playing football in the immediate future.

Until the Football League decide whether it's 1,2, or nought going down there can't be a sensible vote on anything. That's why I'm so pissed off with the National League just cancelling this season without thinking through its relationship with the rest of football.
Clubs could have furloughed or laid off staff just like every other business, the authorities move the close season, allow month to month contracts and impose a transfer window effectively tying existing squads to existing clubs without the club's incurring extra costs for the duration of football's lockdown.
Very short sighted, completely lacking in a strategy, just a knee jerk panic over cash flow.

I think N+V will be an option - but one that is totally unpalatable for the League as it will most certainly lead to 2 up 2 down between EFL and NL going back to 1 up 1 down, which will be suicidal for the National League. That would mean that the only 3 clubs that benefit in the short term from N+V would be Ebbsfleet, AFC Fylde and Chorley. In the long term if it goes to 1 up 1 down then absolutely nobody in the League benefits from N+V.

Well this is exactly it - I would never suggest we should be champions, and if there was no vacancy in the EFL then I think we'd grudgingly accept that we aren't getting promoted. But the fact of the matter is that one team will almost certainly be filling that gap, and all metrics and measurements of achievement over the past 8 months suggest it should be Barrow.
