Tbf john surely most non league clubs are in the same boat are they not? There is no income. The sports complex on which the ground sits and he owns are shut. People need to get over this myth of us being some unlimited funded club. We are not and never have been.

Oh Mary, come and listen to this! :fl::fl::fl:

I'm already getting frustrated with people using the severity of the virus as a shield for bad decision making.

No decision made now by footballing authorities - aside from violating lockdown which nobody is calling for and would be illegal anyway - is going to lead to further deaths from the virus.

the furlough scheme might apply - but does it apply to someone who has a contract that runs out at the end of April say.. - I can't see many players below NLN or NLS level having contracts past then. Would the furlough only apply until then? and would the furlough only apply if the club retained them - ie gave them a new contract... I think that's why the lower leagues were scrapped;- most players at lower levels wouldn't qualify...
You could just extend the contract on a month-to-month basis.

Said this before, no player is going to want to sign monthly extensions on contracts, what happens if they snap a knee ligament? No wages for the best part of a year.

Full time staff at the club have a greed to a wage cut of 20-25% for now.

How is someone going to snap a knee ligament? No one is training, let alone playing!

Talking about the people on here suggesting to extended contracts monthly if the season continues, no pro footballer will risk that. Specially those players whose teams have nothing to play for.

Would you even legally be allowed to? If the money for the existing contract is coming from the government bailout scheme would you be allowed to enter into a new deal which you wouldn't be able to honour yourself?

From a financial point of view, the month-to-month basis is going to make things worse, surely? And a big part of all this is the financial implications.

I believe so yes.

The guidance for businesses who let people go between 28 Feb and when the government announced the furlough scheme is to re-employ them and put them on furlough.

Why?

The Government would be paying the wages not the club.

Obviously when the season gets back under way you would just have everybody's contracts extended to the end of the campaign.

but only upto £2,500 a month per player, league 2 clubs will have another of players on over that each week.
I’ve not really been paying attention to league clubs.
my answer was more to the National League club Chairman who want to end the season because of cost issues.

Listening to Talksport they had some chairman on basically complaining that the FA are pretty much saying this season has been a waste of time .

Well yes but that isn't their fault the world has had to stop because sadly people have died and are seriously ill.

Maybe the FA haven't thought about it very well it's a bit off to say they have ruined the season.

Still the concept of cancelling this season to start another season which hasn’t yet started is ludicrous.
Yeah, #Beebot put it in the right words at the top of this page I think. The severity of the pandemic doesn't justify any particular course of action, cancelling this season isn't going to save lives. I am a bit sick of people backing up their opinions by saying that people have died.

Guillem Balague? You mean the Spanish football pundit from Sky Sports is somehow involved with Biggleswade United

Yes, director of football or something I think

Edit: turns out he’s the chairman after a quick google
