Our Chairman has said he will not be using his vote as he doesn't believe clubs should be deciding the outcome of the season.

I think we'll see some slight relaxation of lockdown after the next 3 weeks. Impossible to predict but I don't buy the claim that we'll have no football until 2021. The EPL and EFL think they'll be back in the summer and I don't think that's necessarily wishful thinking on their part.

This article sets out some of the proposals.

https://www.buzzfeed.com/amphtml/alexwickham/coronavirus-uk-lockdown-three-stage-exit-plan
Reading the paragraph I've quoted below I guess spectator sport events may be included with the final category, certainly not before, in which case the new season may just about begin on time or slightly delayed with a truncated pre-season.

"The second stage would see more businesses reopening and further social distancing measures lifted, with ministers hoping this can start to take place by the end of May or beginning of June. This would mean most people returning to work and small gatherings being permitted. Later on in the summer, the government hopes to be able to open pubs and restaurants."

What is impossible to gauge is the number of people genuinely fearful of the virus who will not be willing to play or watch football for a while longer yet. Whilst I've been observing all the distancing and safety requirements, I'm not bothered about catching the virus itself. I'll be taking immediate advantage as soon as any restrictions are lifted as I'm reasonably fit for my age, have no underlying health conditions or allergies and generally shake off bugs without too much trouble. However it was clear from our final game before the lockdown that quite a lot of regular supporters were staying away, with the attendance figure boosted to around the usual Saturday figure by a fair number of neutrals in Football League colours. As various businesses are permitted to reopen and are guided to do so by government advice I would imagine quite a lot of employees may be genuinely reluctant to return, with some doing so only under a degree of duress. The same may well be experienced by football clubs looking to sign players or attract crowds through their gates. Some people just won't trust that it's time to "return to normal" even when restrictions have been officially lifted.

I also think this country has gone soft. too much reliance on H&S, and the milennials and snowflakes seem to lap it up.

Speaking as someone who watches his partner go out to work every morning as a nurse, not knowing if he’s going to come back home to tell me that, yet another, of his colleagues has contracted covid-19. Or whether another colleague has woken up from the induced coma he’s in at the moment, I can tell you that you are talking an absolute pile of fucking shit.

I’ve no doubt you, like the rest of the country, will understand it soon but this has been handled criminally bad.

Well tbf the reason supermarkets are open is because buying food is an essential need.

Going to the pub etc isn't.

Anyone can feel free to go for a walk /run etc when they like so long as they adhere to the social distancing guidelines.

The isolating stuff is more to protect the NHS from being over run and ensure vulnerable people stay as safe and well as they can.

Not all vulnerable people are old and going to die anyway..

Many will still work and lead active lives.

As for the football - presume nothing will kick off until the Government approve a relaxation of the social distancing guidelines?

I am not in any way belittling the efforts of people working in the NHS/ care homes, and i do agree that the Govt was slow off the mark. i just think that some predictions that i have read are way over the top.

I also understand that this an unprecedented situation, and there are many people worse off than myself, but having been through a life changing incident last September, and just started to get back to something nearer normal, this virus comes along.

Having observed this lockdown since the 19th of March*, i want to see the light at the end of the tunnel, and it seems there isn't one yet.

This has meant that i am on here a lot more often to pass the time, and i am not in a good place right now, so there will be times i go off on one. Boredom does that, and i can't exercise properly to relieve it either.

P.S. My younger brother works in a care home
* i know technically the lockdown officially started on the 23rd.

Our CEO seems to suggest he thinks the season should be finished (whenever that might be) even though we have bugger all left to play for ourselves:-

“It is very simple ~ at some point, football is going to be played again. Next season (2020-2021) is a whole new season, and it can be whatever it is. For the integrity of the competition, we can resume this season, but only as and when it is safe to do so ~ that is the Government’s call.”

Mixed feelings about that for me. It should have been a belting match and one of the nearest for me to get to, however I should be in Venice this weekend...

Why would you book a holiday to clash with the last match of the season?! :eyes::dk:

perhaps he knew he'd be crying after Yeovil got humped by Barrow the game before and wanted to use all those salty tears to fill up the canals....

well there's a new app out that shows if you've come into contact with anyone who has it - and the 2 hot spots in the country for people with symptoms are apparently Barrow and Blackpool.... which further supports the idea that there will be no sport round here for a while.
p.s Evo still lives around the Chesterfield area - so he's not the connection.

If this is any guide the Irish government has said they won’t license any event with a crowd of over 5,000 up until the end of August.

If applied in the UK, only one club big enough and beautiful enough and historic enough in this league to be affected by that...

not by current 2 metres social distancing rules - your 20229 capacity would reduce to about 1011 under social distancing rules (based on stadium seat sizes and the number of empty seats around each occupied seat needed to comply with it)

Haha with the size of our ground the only reason some of our lot have always gone down Notts is because they could be socially distant.

All matches have been cancelled.

No indication on what happens to the 19/20 season yet but surely it has to be declared null and void.

The matches have been cancelled. That is all.

There's still going to be a decision made on whether there's promotions or relegations.

With the league needing to replace Bury it’s hard to see how they wouldn’t be allowed up.

However, after 5 grim years down here I’m well accustomed to the complete randomness involved in the decision making by the conference.

The Fleetwood chairman is demanding salary caps now he’s managed to get his tinpot outfit into the league. Oh the irony.

As for cancelling matches, that’s a gutter, I was wetting myself with anticipation for our first ever trip to Chorley. Let’s see what the league come up with next. If there’s no playoffs, fuck your isolation, I’m rioting.

I think it was Dale Vince wanting salary caps and Andy Pilley wanting to go back to regionalised leagues (although admittedly they probably agreed with each other given the backgrounds of their respective clubs).

They have to be very, very careful if they declare null and void.
