Draft resolution to the National League clubs will now be issued on Sunday. Number of amendments rejected by the Board today. However, no play offs at step 2 has been removed from the draft resolution.

So promoting second place rejected in favour of playoffs?

I'm fully on board with that. Did they misinterpret the government guidance then?

I don't think those within the National League expected such a backlash from the Step 2 clubs, to paraphrase what Marc White said this morning, the National League cannot look at somebody with a straight face and say they have been consistent across their 3 leagues.

For all intents and purposes York is meant to be one of the best away days in the country - Ebbsfleet isn't and I have no idea about Fylde so that should be the means of criteria for promotion and relegation.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, there are big costs involved here. The squads have to be brought out of furlough, quite soon to get some match-fitness and will have to be paid. There will be no gate money. Who’s to say administrators and club owners are going to stump up the cash? I shouldn’t think BT payment will anywhere near cover the outlay. There is only one winner— the rest will be skint.

Surely if a club doesn’t fancy the spend, they don’t have to take part?

Borehamwood have said they’re in. Fuck knows how Harrogate will accommodate that travelling support when they’re told they won’t get in.

Could you imagine if Gateshead had not demoted and you got relegated, what would you think if Aldershot were in south this season and you made play offs?

So with the playoffs now looking likely to go ahead, assuming nobody drops out:

North:

Brackley v Gateshead
Altrincham v Chester

York v Altrincham/Chester
Boston v Brackley/Gateshead

South

Bath v Dorking
Slough v Dartford

Havant v Slough/Dartford
Weymouth v Bath/Dorking

If the playoffs go a head its certainly gonna be interesting what type of teams they can even put out. Most players at North & South level are already out of contract & could easily turn round and say they don't want to play due to risk of injury.

Without a guaranteed contract for next season I could see why some players wouldn't want to risk it at this late stage.

Specially if they’ve already signed for someone else.

Why are they looking likely to go ahead?
I thought they'd scrapped playoffs in the north and south and only 1 up from each?

See post #1801 from DSL. The draft resolution has been amended to include step 2 playoffs ahead of the vote on Monday.

The clubs could unfurlough them if they start with that.

It's a shambles all this. U turns every other day. They should just relegate the bottom 4 which would be 3 because of bury. Clubs need to know. Taking forever

Interesting piece on Havant and Waterlooville page which might stop entry to EFL,
YCFC have a twitter feed trending number 1 tonight ( not a clue what that means) fans from other clubs getting involved.
Whoever goes up it’s about football either via play offs or otherwise.Under no circumstances should be anything but 4 up and 4 down.

It certainly was odd that they rejected that amendment, which wasn't exactly controversial.

They would be daft not to adopt something similar soon.

Vote is on Monday. I'd be shocked if it doesn't pass.

Other than York & Havant who are both full time (Chester are they full time??), at this point no other North or South playoff team would even have their players on furlough. I know at Maidstone we were only paying our players till early May when their contracts expired......so I'd imagine its much the same for everyone else.

There's nothing stopping them from pulling out other than pressure from their own fans. The NL have said there will be no punishment for teams that withdraw.

Why are york just expecting to be promoted I dont get it. Reading Twitter they we're expecting to be promoted for being in the top 2. Well I'm sorry that isnt how it works. You cant just promote harrogate because they're second. You either have the playoffs and 2 go up or you dont have the play offs and 1 go up. How can anyone think anything other than that

The NL getting a lot of stick, but it's the FA who ought to bear the brunt here. It looks like they gave the NL incorrect advice which has now been backpedalled on.

They've been really poor throughout all this - cancelling steps 3-7 at lightning speed, binning off women's football etc.

Contrary to what I posted earlier, this makes far more sense. That said on Steps 3-7, that is on their respective leagues (with perhaps the exception of the NPL from what's been disclosed), the FA merely ratified their recommendation.

You don’t have to unfurlough people for them to be able to do their jobs. They are furloughed to help the business they represent.

But as I understand it you can furlough and then extend contracts so the government carry on paying?

There are 5 or 6 players we are yet to release or offer an extension to and I presumed this was the reason.

But aren’t a lot clubs, particularly ones who might be involved in the playoffs keeping players on rolling contracts so they can receive furlough and stay on the books?

Once clubs involved in the playoffs are back to training and then playing again you either agree to play for your current club or you will get paid nowt.

I very much doubt whatever new club they have lined up will agree to start paying them from the 1st July with the uncertainty surrounding next season.

Our record in the play offs is possibly the worst in the country - 4 out of 4 we have failed to even reach the final :sur:
We're 5/5. Have reached the final three times... lost them all. Reaching the final is no consolation.

My understanding is that the clubs were presented with four options. Null and void was the most popular, but only had support from about 35%. Rather than redistribute the rest of the votes, they decided to claim that null and void was supported by the clubs.
