Poor old Dick. he should have ended on a high at the end of last season.

Agreed. Not sure why they don't go for someone like Allardyce in the summer if I'm honest. Some might not like his style of football but he's a proven manager who virtually guarantees you survival.

Sam would take it just to wind up the Geordies even more as well ;)

Wouldn't touch it if I were Allardyce.

It's happening earlier than usual this season.

Looks like he's leaving, apparently he's made a decision on his future and I doubt he'd say that unless he was going.

They've got a shit squad and no resources. It's a hiding to nothing.

I wouldn't say they've got a shit squad. A few decent, proven players in that team that just aren't performing at the minute.

They've got 2 decent players and no money. Can't see them attracting anyone proven like Alardyce. There's no need for him to risk it with a job like that, one that offers little chance of actually improving the team, he can simply wait for something better to come up.

He'll probably be in the Villa job by the end of the year if Sherwood doesn't seriously improve.

Now that's more realistic, Villa at least look like they have something to work with even if they don't buy.

If Short's turned off the tap it's understandable considering how much they've spent.

Third year running a manager has left Sunderland before the derby with Newcastle.

I'm disappointed, we didn't get to give them their annual thrashing that results in their manager getting sacked.

Not really a surprise to anybody really. Hoping that Dick's replacement isn't Allardyce. Can't stand the bloke.

Lambert and McLeish are looking too. Sherwood won't be far behind unless things quickly improve.

Enjoy your retirement big Dick. Big Sam to come in and get Sunderland into Europe, you heard it here first!

Surprised Pearson hasn't been mentioned by any on here - seems like the sort of character Sunderland need.

Although having said that if Sunderland were to get relegated I wouldn't be shedding any tears.

I see what you're saying, but for me Sunderland need something a little bit different this time around. They need an experienced Premier League manager who's been there and done it over a number of years.

Allardyce fits the bill perfectly.

Really can't see Allardyce taking it. It's not like WHU where they had a decent squad to get promoted with. Sunderland have a gash squad and need to cut costs so they can't exactly evolve the squad with great ease. Big Sam is best biding his time for another position to become available.

Their squad isn't that bad. They've got Defoe who scores goals, so that's a start. It's not like they're firing blanks. If Sam can make them a bit tighter at the back they'll survive and give him time to bring in his own players in January.
