Just seen this on teletext. I like the idea that the plan includes rebuilding the missing mile of the local canal.

Near M5, but how far is that from Nailsworth?

What do Forest Gump Rovers fans think?

If there's one team that I didn't think could ever move to a worse location it would be Forest Green but this would do it!

The main concerns for me are a) loss of identity, and b) ownership of the site.

As things stand, the club owns the stadium, however should we move then I'd imagine that Ecotricity will own the site which will mean that should anything happen to end Vince/Ecotricity's ownership/interest in the club, we could potentially be left homeless without any assets.

What are the chances of this not actually being built?

Not sure why you think it's a worse location for away fans.

It certainly would be easier for away fans to get to, has easy access to bigger towns and is on major roads. There will also be far more parking spaces.

Not true, the club still plays in Forest Green, and the new stadium, a few hundred yards up the hill from our old ground, came a long time before Vince took over and changed the badge and kit.

The key thing about a clubs identity imo is it's location, the fact we've played in pretty much the same place for 126 years means we still have a strong identity as things stand. That could change if this move happens though.

"By the time we get to build, we will be in the Football League," said Vince.

Well I'm glad they've sorted promotion out, good on them.

I'm a supporter of a club who have been pursuing pipe dreams since about 1975, but this takes the biscuit on the 'pipe dream' scale.

Where's the £100m investment coming from? Just out of interest, any FGR fans know?

Do you know Pat Coyle, your views sound quite similar?

I knew Crusha as well, top bloke, he and his missus never missed a match. Not sure why you say the club drove fans away before Vince, the likes of Trevor and Colin were great for the club and the move to TNL had to happen imo, to stay in Forest Green in a much better stadium was a fantastic effort.

Well I suppose that if we can afford to build a £100m stadium complex we should be able to build a side capable of getting out of the Conference.

If this gets planning permission I can see Vince really loosening the purse strings as promotion will then become vital, he's held back somewhat up till now. Wouldn't shock me to see our playing budget double or even treble if need be.

when you say if 'we' can afford a 100 million pound stadium complex, you mean if your owners can afford this? I doubt FGR the company has the assets or capital to contemplate such a project.

And tbh i dont think league 2 status will really help. Could be worth an extra million or so being in the FL. But if you're basing the security of this 100 million pound investment on you being in league 2 you might need a little reality check. Why not finance the project with a Wonga loan? Just while you get your capital together.

sounds like you've got more 'vision' than an Eastleigh fan on magic mushrooms.

Well obviously. Same with most clubs though isn't it? There aren't many non-league clubs who can afford to build a £100m stadium from their own assets or capital.

My point still stands, if Ecotricity/Vince can afford to build such an expensive facility then surely the cost of getting the club promoted out of the Conference shouldn't be a major problem? The fact that Vince will see the need for Football League status as urgent should this get off the ground will mean he'll spend what it takes to see us go up before this is built.

If you're moving, surely it makes more sense to either shift to Stroud or Gloucester not some out of town stadium in the middle of nowhere. The middle of nowhere stadium will likely only work whilst you're doing well, as soon as you start doing less well fans look for any old excuse not to bother making the effort.

It will be easily accessible from Stroud, Stonehouse, Gloucester and North Bristol. The complex will also include it's own park and ride facilities apparently, and Stonehouse station will be nearby (hopefully if it's built).

Theoretically it should make our catchment area much bigger, but i'm doubtful whether that will actually be the case.

All of these tinpotters with visions make me sick. Bring back re-election (after we get back, of course).

Not quite the middle of nowhere. The planned site for the stadium is between Stonehouse, which is effectively part of Stroud, and the M5 motorway. There has been talk of putting in a new railway station in Stonehouse, on the Gloucester to Bristol line (the current one is on the Gloucester to Swindon line), and this development would surely increase the likelihood of that happening. Stroud is one of the fastest growing towns in the county and if this development didn't go ahead the gap between Stonehouse and the motorway would probably be filled with houses in the long term. From a purely selfish point of view, regardless of my opinions on the matter, this move would virtually halve the amount of time it takes me to get to and from a home game.

I reckon FGR will be in the FL before they get to build the new stadium.

btw - and I won't mind at all if they do. Those days of chairmen calling upon other chairmen to vote for them come re-election time, are long gone. Let's not forget that some clubs used to re-apply year after year, instead of perhaps investing in a couple of new players to bolster their squads.
