I'd make some comment about all the people that wrote us off pre-season it'll only come back to bite me on the arse.

Table doesn't take true shape till Xmas. Up till then it's all jostling for positions and posturing.
We are sixth and I expect that to change anyway

I bet those people who predicted Crewe to get relegated are feeling a bit stupid now...

Thing is they looked dead and buried last year but got out of it. So don't bet on it not happening again if they sack the manager and get someone in who can motivate

Yeah I suppose so, but the Crewe fans on here don't sound too optimistic of their chances.
They may go on to have a successful season, so good luck to them.

I highly doubt we will go down, early days yet of course, but our team is a lot better than I thought

You are of course correct. I only resurrected the thread to see if I could gain a response from the Shrews fan who predicted we'd come bottom, if he went, and after last night's display..... Wondered if he'd changed his opinion is all??

All these people who put us in the top six

Presumably that was just the Bratfud fans? Can't be arsed to read the humungous four page thread.

Still sticking by your last place finish prediction for us??

Be honest, wouldn't you love a Samy Morsy of your own??

The guy's summat else eh??
Sam Morsy played very well as did Lee Novak, however, I think Ryan Woods is better than Morsy.
I don't think we'll finish quite so highly now that we've lost Connor a Goldson to Brighton, I still think Chesterfield will go down however, but we shall. ;)

I'm not denying that you won fairly, in fact you could have easily scored another 2 or 3 if your finishing was better. We rejected bids from West Ham and Bournemouth last January for Woods, he's destined to play in the premier league sooner rather than later, I just hope we get a decent fee and sell on fee when he inevitable leaves.

Fair enough. I'm confident of a decent finish for us. Early days but you look to be in trouble.

Chesterfield looked a decent side but I am not sure how much of that was down to such an out of character poor performance by ourselves. Some of the gift opportunities the Spireites spurned should have seen a bigger scoreline margin!

Thought I'd bump this to see how well people did, here is the average of peoples predictions pre-season:
Key: Average possition, (Highest-lowest prediction)

1) Sheffield United 1.9 (6-1)
2) Wigan 3.3 (15-1)
-------------------------------------
3) Barnsley 3.8 (7-1)
4) Bradford 4.9 (10-1)
5) Millwall 5.0 (18-2)
6) Doncaster 8.2 (15-4)
-----------------------------------
7) Gillingham 8.2 (21-4)
8) Scunthorpe 9.8 (22-3)
9) Peterborough 10.6 (21-2)
10) Bury 11.3 (18-5)
11) Swindon 11.7 (22-3)
12) Rochdale 12.4 (18-2)
13) Coventry 13.0 (22-6)
14) Burton 14.5 (22-5)
= Fleetwood 14.5 (24-6)
16) Shrewsbury 15.1 (23-6)
17) Southend 15.7 (22-1)
18) Walsall 16.9 (23-11)
19) Oldham 18.0 (24-15)
20) Chesterfield 18.4 (24-10)
-----------------------------------------
21) Port Vale 19.5 (24-12)
22) Colchester 21.3 (24-11)
23) Crewe 22.0 (24-16)
24) Blackpool 23.1 (24-15)

And final league table with places higher/lower indicated by +/- compared with the avg. predictions

1) Wigan +1
2) Burton +12
---------------------------------------------
3) Walsall +15
4) Millwall +1
5) Bradford -1
6) Barnsley -3
-------------------------------------------
7) Scunthorpe +1
8) Coventry +5
9) Gillingham -2
10) Rochdale +2
11) Sheff. Utd -10
12) Port Vale +9
13) Peterborough -4
14) Bury -4
15) Southend +2
16) Swindon -5
17) Oldham +2
18) Chesterfield +2
19) Fleetwood -5
20) Shrewsbury -4
--------------------------------------
21) Doncaster -15
22) Blackpool +2
23) Colchester -1
24) Crewe -1

Automatics: predicted Wigan correctly
Play-offs: called 3/4 with Millwall, Bradford and Barnsley
Relegation: called 3/4 with Blackpool, Colchester and Crewe
Rather amusingly the team to mess up both the play-offs and relegations is Doncaster who dropped a massive 15 places from play-offs to relegation.

So statistically the biggest underachievers were Donny and biggest overachievers Walsall.

Quite surprised that collectively we got 7/10 of the main calls correct however no team finished exactly where predicted so we've got room to work on for next season.

How did you do?

Fans seem to know poor sides so based on me own peepers I'm nominating Shrewsbury and Chesterfield to bomb next year.

Happy holidays, guys!

From the outside I can see why people are tipping us to struggle. Got rid of Pope, Williamson and Marshall.
What you can't really understand unless you've watched us is why we struggled last season.
To put it in to context, Pope scored 12 goals last season, hardly record breaking, and his legs have gone. Williamson scored 9 I think but never in a million years is he a footballer and 3 of his goals were against lower league opposition.
Marshall is the one we might miss the most however he was terrible February onwards.
Our reason for struggle last year is that we couldn't keep a clean sheet. We were literally having to score at least 2 goals to get anything. We've significantly improved in this area in my opinion.
We've also kept our best player and enhanced our midfield with foley (Yeovil multi player of the year award winner) and grant (best outfield player at crewe). I realise these teams were poor last season but it's like getting the best players from top league 2 teams. We've also got Kelly who looks like Marshall with more of an end product and andoh who's an unknown quantity to every other team but he's rapid and skillful.
It would surprise me to be honest if we struggled and if we did our chairman would look to bring in some new faces . The only worry I have is our manager who made some disastrous decisions at the end of last season and keeps faith in players that are proven not good enough.
I don't think we're anywhere near play offs but I think we'll be comfortable mid table, there's at least 8 weaker squads with less depth than ours
It just goes to show that you know your own team. We conceded less as I expected we would, foley and grant have been two of our better players and we finished bang on midtable. Don't ever question me again

I thought we may push for 23rd earlier in the week but reading some of Davis's recent comments about our defence I think I was being a bit ambitious.

Wonder what utter horseshit Davis was talking back then.

Probably about how Harry Davis was a solid experienced CH and that the younger players could learn something from playing with him. It was utter bollocks considering he was in the treatment room at the time as well.

Here's mine. 150 places different from the finals.

Total underestimation of Wigan, Walsall and Port Vale. Overestimation of Donny, Shrews and Fleetwood.

Nearly accurate for Millwall, Southend and Chesterfield.

Somehow got Dale and Burton in each other's positions :)

1. Barnsley. (6/-5)
2. Rochdale (10/-8)
------
3. Scunthorpe (7/-4)
4. Gillingham (9/-5)
5. Millwall (4/+1)
6. Sheff U (11/-5)
----
7. Bradford (5/+2)
8. Bury (14/-6)
9. Peterborough (13/-4)
10. Burton (2/+8)
11. Fleetwood (19/-8)
12. Shrewsbury (20/-8)
13. Doncaster (22/-9)
14. Coventry (8/+6)
15. Wigan (1/+14)
16. Southend (15/+1)
17. Colchester (23/-6)
18. Walsall (3/+15)
19. Chesterfield (18/+1)
20. Swindon (16/+4)
----
21. Oldham (17/+4)
22. Crewe (24/-2)
23. Port Vale (12/+11)

So I got Millwall and Bradford correct in terms of play off semi finalists but switched their places.

Wigan I had going close and put Barnsley as champions.

Had us as 18th but that was with the 1st manager of the season, so cute surprised we finished 15th.

Got Blackpool spot on and Colchester only one off.

Vale was the only one I was quite far off with, with them finishing 10 above what I expected.
