Wow! Just......wow!

Looking forward to seeing Bradley Dack's goal.
And I'm hearing the debut by 18-y-o Emmanuel Osadebe was outstanding.

Looks like it's going to be a long season for us Blades. Never known our message boards so negative.

Early (very very) days yet.

I've seen us in the 4th division before so it's not entirely a new experience

LOL

If we don't get up with Adkins S74...maybe we should just fold? Pisses me off and amuses me in equal measures now.

Only saving grace is its highlighted a new defence is a must whilst theres still a wee bit of time to sort it. The Chesterfield game will be a bloody weird atmosphere with what would've been a positive one and a warm welcome for Adkins being very tainted with some anger towards Adkins already appearing in some corners.

It was probably the most disorganised, unbalanced comical 1st half display i think iv ever seen. We seriously looked lost and like weve never played football before. But also i thought gillingham were outstanding 1st to every ball they never gave us a second on the ball and looked dangerous from every cross every corner and every time they went forward. I honestly dont think we have been as outclassed in all our time in this division. All summer everyone knows weve needed a centre half and a goalkeeper we have signed neither and the decision to put mcevely as captain is a very strange one. Very very worrying start to the season for us but like i said for as bad as we were i thiught gillingham were brilliant.

Ps. Rochester is an absolutely cracking place for a drink too

Makes a change for people to say how well we played.

If we can put in regular performances like that over the season we will have a very good season

If you put in regular performances like that you will be in the top 6 no doubt about it. Your team executed your managers gameplan to absolute perfection all in all if i was a gillingham fan i would be absolutely delighted with not just the result but the performance too.

Just a note for you Blades fans, we once started the season with a 5-0 win against Swindon. They made the play-off final and we limped out of the league in the opposite direction having not won an away game all season.

As far as I'm aware Swindon didn't have a big budget and weren't favourites for the league though!

Its oreight, we're used to it now. Pisses me off no end but then I laugh and move on.

Rumour on our forum that a CB is having a medical tomorrow morning, fingers crossed-I think we may need one! (and then another one and then a new gk).

People go way overboard dont they. Its 1 game as bad as we were its still only 1 game we can see where our weaknesses are and theres still time to rectify that before the end of the month.

Yup had the dubious honour of watching that with gills friends in the home end. Absolutely ripped us apart that day. Lets wait until xmas to get a better view id suggest.
Blunts transfer policy is a bit man utd esq i.e. We can all see issue is in defense yet the next signing is always anywhere but in defense.
Well done though top of the league surely time for a promotion thread

The Chesterfield game will be a bloody weird atmosphere with what would've been a positive one and a warm welcome for Adkins being very tainted with some anger towards Adkins already appearing in some corners.

In our 2006/7 season when we won the League One championship, we started poorly under Adkins. We only won once in the first seven games, ironically away at Gillingham. In our 2008/9 season when we won the League One promotion playoff, we lost our first two games under Adkins. His record to starting a season in League One with us is not inspiring.

Of course, some hollow-head fans will be calling for his departure. They are the ones frothing at the mouth at the expectation of Sheffield United remaining undefeated throughout the season. Even at 'ickle Scunny, we have them and they are out with their vitriol for Robins to go, after we lost away at Burton.

Adkins is a good manager and his strength lays in his man-management skills. He needs to get to know the players to gain mutual trust. Bringing in Sharp and Scunny's Chief Scout Lee Turnbull is about getting people alongside who know him well. All this will take time. BUT, when he sorts out his players and his team, watch out. If Adkins can get to grips with managing his players' mentality and confidence sooner than later, I wouldn't bet against the Blades achieving automatic promotion. BUT, don't leave that to the last game of the season :cool1:.

Only problem is will we give him time? I'd like to think so but Blades fans are getting increasingly impatient with every failed promotion attempt.

Highlights for anyone interested, Dack's goal looks better every time.

I thought it at the time and I've re watched the highlights several times, our third goal is actually an OG going in off their defender.

Yeah the third was an own goal (Collins maybe?), and the first was Norris. I'm still not convinced the second was Oshilaja either but there you go!

Now that I can log in from home, I can actually give my thoughts.

Sheffield United were obviously technically quite good, some real quality in midfield. But that team looked really unbalanced. Not convinced about the defensive merits of Freeman (looked quality going forwards) and McFadzean. Thought they centre backs were quite easily pulled out of position, Collins looked slow and deceptively weak given his size and McEveley didn't really look like a centre back. There seemed to be no understanding in the defence, the side backs and the centre backs seemed to be playing a different line. Long in goal I think can be blamed for the first two goals, was pretty much in line for the first one and the video above makes it seem better goalkeeping than it actually was... The second one was a stupid corner to give away, Long has come out for the ball, he has to claim it. Also noticed Collins going absolutely nuts at Long, nice way to install confidence.

I also didn't understand why Baxter was played infront of the defence, seemed to invite more pressure on a straining defence with 0 real cover. Really like the look of Basham though. Also thought Sharp's movement was really impressive, lot of clever runs but I don't really think anyone was on his wave length. Based solely on those 90 minutes, if Sheffield United sort out their defence I still reckon they'll go up.

As for Gillingham I swear everytime I see Gillingham two things happen.

1. They score a crap load of set pieces.
2. Dack has an absolute blinder.

Shame to see Morris has been dropped :(
