You beat me to it. No surprise here. One win in our last 22 matches so it's not really a knee-jerk reaction. We only stayed up last season because Sheridan managed to galvanise the squad and scrape together the necessary points. Fair play to the Board for giving Feaney the chance to assemble his own squad and having a crack this season. It didn't pay off. I'm guessing someone with a bit more experience at this level and that someone might just be Mark Yates (shudder)! Having said that Big Sam is free.

Newport should stop appointing managers whom it is painfully obviously are going to get the boot early on. I mean I know it's wonderful in hindsight, but did any football supporter really look at Feeney and think it was going to work? Only say it because it was the same with Butcher last season. Seems to happen a lot but owners appear oblivious to things which normal supporters can see from a mile off.

Unfortunately, they are between a rock and a hard place - bit like Daggers before Still returned to the Promised Land and Barrow pre-Casson. With their finances and crowds (combined in their case with their ownership structure and being out on an M4 limb), they can go for cheap(ish) experience or cheap unproven potential. Experience usually means experience of losing at this level.

I was discussing their (and our) options with some fans in the Supporter's Club on saturday. We were all worrying about who could come next if the incumbent couldn't turn it around. We have/had half a chance of getting someone half good - they seem to have little or no chance. We struggled to come up with a name that might do a decent job, they could afford and who might take up the challenge. Sheridan was a godsend but it couldn't last on their finances and geography.

I used to think that Newport (as a town and football club) was a bit like Barrow-in-Wales. After my third visit, I think they've got a bit more history and variety, even if they lack the submarines and (slightly) more sustainable millionaire investor. I now think it's more a case of Newport -in-Furness.

Well Newport's a lot more accessible, not far from a proper metropolitan city in Cardiff and right on a motorway so I'd expect it to be streets ahead of Barrow.

Easily the worst side I've seen this season, very, very limited in all areas of the pitch. That Marlon Jackson is total shite.

Yet they still beat us 1-0 - Which says more about what an awful team we are, more than anything else.

The writing was on the wall when they signed Parkin...

One of the quickest, and predicted in song by the away end at Glanford Park the night before, was Laws exit from Scunthorpe. The song - you're getting sacked in the morning - was slightly inaccurate, he was sacked just after midday. Ironically they've never hardly looked back since then and we clearly did them a massive favour by winning there - as some of my friends of that persuasion regularly remind me...
