I'll admit I didn't know it was St Georges day until I looked on facebook this morning, but what pisses me off more is this girl I was texting wished me a happy St Patricks day a few weeks ago, I asked why as I wasn't Irish, but yet I get no Happy St Georges day from her.

My namesake captures the essence of the occasion well, if I may:

I too didn't realise it was SGD (Can I call it SGD? Is that a thing?) until I opened Facebook this morning. The standoff between do-gooders and #rascists is a pity, but at the same time I don't see much in it for me as there's a lot of England that I really don't relate to. *glances to his south-east* Perhaps it's the hills, cultural independence and buttery foodstuffs of our neighbouring principalities that makes me vaguely more comfortable calling myself British instead, but I allot the idea of England into the country I support by default in sports, an unappealing flag and a minority of folk who can't get jingoism right. What I love about the landscape, heritage and people is incomplete without taking the whole of the British Isles into account. No offence to the lad having gone to the trouble of slaying that dragon.

Not sure you get to whine about English nationalism being racist if you're one of the people who meekly surrendered nationalism to those types in the first place.

General point, not directed at anyone in particular...

To be fair to the Irish at least their patron saint was Irish.

Actually having checked seems he was British. :brill:

Pretty sure St George was from Syria or something completely random like that!?

I think Craig was chatting bout St. Paddy, who was from Britain (Wales perhaps?), however from good pre-Anglo-Saxon Britain. So is ace obv.

Everyone focuses on where St. George was born rather than on the outlandish claim that he killed a dragon.

I killed a dragon the other day, don't understand why they made it out to be such a big deal.

It's the same each year, people maoning about how the English don't celebrate St Georges day, the answer is of course we do, but people seem to want the same sort of celebartion that St patricks day gets....why? Those morons dressed up in the union jack singing patroic songs just look stupid, that's not what England is about, the vast majority of us are far too classy for all that.:cool1:
I don't know. If it's a Union Jack, it means I'm on a boat. Partying on a boat sounds great fun.

What? It's owing to brave souls such as him that you now live in a dragon-free world and you mock. Shame on you.
