Let's see how Firmino performs at a big club under the pressure of a massive fee first of all. I doubt he will have as big an impact on your side as Sterling has during his best moments - though many of his best moments came with Suarez and a fully fit Sturridge in the side. Clyne is obviously an improvement on Johnson, I reckon I would be too though! He'll go on to do well for Liverpool I expect but is just a solid signing. Similarly to Firmino, Milner is just replacing what you are losing with the departure of Gerrard. It doesn't elevate you at all.

Unless United and City have shockingly bad transfers windows I have to say I will be very surprised if Liverpool are in the running for the top 4 towards the end of the season.

If reports of the last few days are to be believed, we seem to be closing in on Schneiderlin which is just what the doctor ordered with Carrick on his last legs - quite literally. Him partnering Herrera is quite an attractive prospect which, with Di Maria and Depay on the wings, Mata/Rooney in the hole... :bdick:

I'm sort of split on whether we really need a striker when we'll most likely be playing lone CF systems. For the moment Wilson, RVP and the returning Hernandez are decent cover should Rooney drop back to #10. We're a class CB and RB away from fielding a solid team on paper, so here's to hoping Woody will make it happen...Otamendi and Coleman would be great :bg1:

Liverpool, bar Firmino and Clyne have been underwhelming. Milner is a great versatile utility player, but I dunno what BR is doing 'guaranteeing' a central role most likely pairing him with Henderson. Both very similar in that they're not DMs, not creative enough to be considered 'attacking' but do everything else to a reasonable standard. With Sterling half way out the door, where are the 'net' improvements to the starting XI?

The window hasn't officially opened for business ofcourse, so it'll be interesting to see what both teams end up with in the end.

The reason Utd got fourth this season was because Lpool were shockingly poor not because Utd were anything special and still only 8 pts separated us. I think you may be very surprised at the end of the season.

Where are the 'net' improvements? Well Clyne at rb to begin with instead of a poor slow Glen Johnson. Can moves to mf, his natural position giving us plenty of options-Can,Hendo,Milner,Lucas,Allen. Firmino will likely form a tasty 'samba' partnership with Coutinho behind the strikers Sturridge, new guy, Ings, Origi. And we've plenty of other choices on the wings Ibe, Lallana, Markovic, Sterling if he stays otherwise I expect another winger will be signed.
The squad is more balanced already but still needs striker and lb sorted. I don't go round spouting where we'll finish but I'm confident we'll be in the mix for top four IF a quality striker is brought in .If not it'll be very difficult.

So just the RB then? Milner steps in the XI for Gerrard as Stevencc mentioned, as will probably be the case with Fermino and Sterling. One thing is for sure, you guys need a proven top striker to be anywhere near the mix.

Agreed, get a solid striker in, and they will be there or thereabouts to try for fourth (though will that be good enough this season with England's European coefficient?).

It'd take another season or two of poor showings in Europe by English teams coinciding with really strong ones from the Italians before we'd loose the 4th spot.

We needn't worry anyways seeing as United are back in it, we'll show 'Pool how it's done ;) :D

I can't see us doing brilliantly in the CL to be honest - assuming that we do get past the qualifier first. Also I can't see us doing as poorly as Liverpool though, we should at least get out of the groups.

Both sides were pony last year and will probably finish as many points behind the champions as last season.

United by 6 though

All of them
The feedback we're getting from both sets of fans is pretty even. Most United fans were happy with last season and see that as a stepping stone for a title charge. Liverpool fans are a bullish despite a brutal last campaign & are bouyed by the players they have brought in. Liverpool will have to significantly improve their goal return to stand any chance of keeping pace.

Liverpool have turned into Spurs. Sell their best player then replace them with lots of decent players. It just doesn't work.

Or have upped sticks and moved to the south coast :dk:

Last time I checked the thread title wasn't "How many points will Manchester United finish ahead of Liverpool season 15-16 as a result of magnificent victories".

No moving the goalposts!

Two Liverpool fans showing a ridiculously high level of arrogance here, I must say I am shocked to the core.

180 minutes of football, 3 shots on target, 2 goals. Impressive. Most impressive.

But they got 6 points in 2 games. That's the major thing.

Manchester United 6pts
Liverpool 3pts

LOL
Well, this thread looks like it's just going to be a battle between Man.Utd and Liverpool, and with both sides talking shit already, i'm never coming in here again.

Perhaps man Utd will win the title with a record low number of shots and goals. Something like our promotion season of 1995/6 (look it up)

True enough Spear, it will be 26 years (and counting) for Liverpool. A number I am sure you are familiar with
