Death toll at 44 so far but expected to rise, and over 500 at least injured. Seems it occurred in a chemicals warehouse in Tianjin. There were reports of a fire at the site earlier in the day before the explosions occurred. Blast thought equivalent to over 20 tonnes of TNT. A whole area of the city of around 2 Kilometers of office blocks and housing utterly destroyed.

Some of the pictures and video online from this are just unreal.

Sadly this isn't the first time Tianjin has suffered disaster. An earthquake levelled the city in July 1976. There are still parts of the city undeveloped after that tragedy.

Saw some clips and that last night before going to bed and it looked mental. I also read that it was 1/3 the size of the atomic bomb dropped in WW2. That's pretty insane if true.

No. Way off. Second, bigger Tianjin explosion estimated at 21 tonnes TNT equivalent. Smaller of the two WWII atomic bombs was 15,000 tons TNT equivalent. So about 0.14% the size rather than 33%.
