OK, McClure is more likely to be a threat than Cureton, who is more likely to feature on Channel 5 than Brunton Park, but Cureton is more well known, and also has a 4-letter nickname ending in 'o'.

The third London team so far this season makes the long journey north.

Both teams looking up the table after difficult starts, particularly Dagenham who faced some of the division's more fancied teams in August. I'm sure they'll be hoping they can rediscover the momentum will saw them surge clear of relegation in the last couple of months of last season. We'll be hoping we can remain in the top half and keep scoring for the fans, while secretly hoping we might just be able to also stop conceding so many.

'Nil' is not a word either team have been accustomed to this season. Neither has kept a clean sheet yet this season in the league (though Dagenham managed one in the Football League Trophy), and Dagenham have only failed to the find the net on one occasion way back on the opening day, while Carlisle are the country's top scorers in all competitions and going back to last season have scored in 16 of the last 17 league games, and every league game this season.

So will this be yet another goal-fest... or is it inevitably going to finish 0-0... also will there be a repeat of last season's 22-man brawl.

For Carlisle, Troy Archibald-Henville is a doubt (he was reportedly out for a week to 10 days) while Charlie Wyke and David Atkinson will also be missing through injury.

Don't know or care who is injured for Dagenham.

Yeah I know... an actual match preview from me, and no snide remarks at all... well apart from that last comment.

I think the daggers fans will be annoyed this hasn't been classed as some sort've derby or rivalry.........oh well they cannot have everything.

Its an interesting fixture, on one hand I think we'll thump someone soon and this was the game I was expecting it to happen, on the other side of the coin for all you've disregarded Cureton in the post and he's maybe not playing as much now, if he had his form of last season and we have him the chances Barnet got last week, he will get a hat-trick, he won't miss that glut of endless chances.

the worrying thing is listening to Curle yesterday there isn't going to be any changes at the back. Infact he said the 2 players he hopes to bring in will be attack players :dk::fart: I mean we score goals for fun, but leak goals for fun, everyone complains the central defenders are not good enough and the managers approach is to just try and find a way to score even more goals

I'll give him my respect for attempting to be abit brash and try to do different to the same old normal boring formations and approaches and hell if we all played this ridiculous 4 players in own half and shove rest forward style we'd have a fun season for all.

but on the serious side he could end up sacked if he doesn't address his defence, the reaction last week at 2-2 was quite harsh and had that 5th goal been a Barnet than a Carlisle one me thinks talk this week would have been a lot different. I like the style, but I think we got outplayed last week because we got so worried about the inability of our back 3 that we couldn't play the attack stuff during the game. If we could have 3 competent defenders then we can play some free flowing attack play........we would always concede, but it then allows us to at least dominate and go for it.

This me thinks will see us dominate game, I think we'll either win by afew goals or they will win with a sucker punch. they have had a solid week with 2 wins so no doubt come with more confidence than previously, infact I think they are 4-5 unbeaten at moment. I shall be interested if they keep up this exciting trend of sides going away from home and trying to win or if they will be first to come to BP and sit back all game.

I think another forward is ideal, especially with Wyke out injured for a few weeks. Rigg hasn't had a great start to the season, and has looked off the pace.

However I am surprised he isn't targeting a defender, when it is so clear we need to stop conceding so many goals.

As for the game, I think it'll be another difficult game, but a winnable one too.

I fancy Jabo to score this weekend, but Cureton is one of the most clinical forwards in the division, and will be a threat no doubt.

What a match this should be, the league's two heavyweight's going head-to-head at Estadio Brunton Parkio.

Not really sure what to expect in all seriousness - difficult one to predict. Does Jabo score a lot of goals through set-pieces? Because we're always keen to give goals away from throw-ins/free-kicks/corners etc. Should be plenty of attacking and some suspect defending as well (Keep an eye out for big Nyron pretending to be calm on the ball). Other question is whether we keep with the same midfield two of Kane Ferdinand & Matt Richards, or pull one out (probably Richards), in place of Boucaud. We also have options from the bench for this, I mean against Northampton we had Jodi Jones, Zavon Hines and Curo available to us. I fancy one of the first two to start in place of Ashley Chambers on Saturday.

3-2 or 0-0.

Think he's scored a couple from set pieces, Miller scored from a set-piece last week. Our delivery from set-pieces can be a bit hit and miss though, it seems there'll be a load of really poor ones that go over everyone's head, and then every now and again, one right on the sixpence.

Every match I've seen us play this season has been toilet but we did win twice away last week so I don't know how good we are.

Therefore I'll say draw.

None of Jabo's goals being from set pieces to be honest. Unless you count his 3rd against Cambridge and his one against Wimbledon where on both occasions he scored just after the corner/free kick was headed clear by the opposition.

One of the targets is Alan Sheehan. Although we don't expect to get him.
He's naturally a left back. Then again at Carlisle United left backs play the entire 90 minutes in the final third!!

As far as I know we still have Dean Leacock training with us. Once he's built up his fitness I expect him to sign, so at least that's one new defender.

I'm of the opinion that any defenders would struggle to defend well in the system we currently play. If our wing backs drop back a touch and actually consider their defensive duties, meaning the RCB and LCB tuck inside a bit to make more of a compact back 3, I think Troy-Raynes-Atkinson would be reasonable. I think it's more the defensive suicide formation & tactics that are the problem rather than personnel. shoddycollins posted a couple of good graphics illustrating this in another thread.

Yeah that's almost exactly what it is in-game, but surely it wouldn't be as suicidal if we had 3 CB's playing in the centre. I think the reason Grainger and Miller drift out wide is because they're used to that role, as both are natural full backs.

It's difficult to find wing-backs who are good going forward as well as defensively, but playing Thompson at wing back was a big mistake as he unsurprisingly did even less tracking back.

And hellogregory, I wouldn't pass at seeing Sergio Ramos in a CUFC shirt, surely he'd do a job for us? ;)

I'm sure he'd do a job at scoring plenty of headers for us, but I think even he would struggle in a one man defence with only Luke Joyce offering any sort of defensive cover for him.

Michael Raynes might be able to teach your guy a thing or two about how to compose yourself on the ball and pick out the right pass if you're lucky:

That entire Vine pretty much sums up League 2.

While i know what you lot mean about our defence and 100% yes we will always concede as we play only 4 men in our own half and the back 3 are spread out...................yes we will always concede.

but at the same time if we could at least have 3 competent looking defenders who you have some confidence in then we can at least press the attack and possession. with our current 3 you panic anytime they get near the box as none win headers, none close down, none tackle............they just back off and back off and back off and allow the shot hoping they can somehow block it.

On a side note, Chigwell Construction Stadium sounds so much worse than Victoria Road or London Borough of Barking and Dagenham Stadium.

Oh yeah, but any of our fans who genuinely give a toss need their head checking. Everyone always has done and always will call it Victoria Road - but this gets some extra money into the club which is more than welcome. It's a necessary evil.

But it will always be known as Victoria Road and always be called that by supporters.

D&R.

Even their local media match previews are tinpot
'Dagenham & Redbridge head north on their longest trip of the season this weekend and conditions at Carlisle United may not be favourable for goalkeeper Liam O’Brien.

The Cumbrians’ Brunton Park stadium is the closest in the Football League to the Scottish border and is notorious for its swirling winds

But O’Brien is confident he can cope with whatever the weather throws at him and knows he can also draw on his experiences from the 2-1 win at Northampton Town.'

...

There was a strong breeze at the Cobblers’ ground and the Daggers stopper hopes that stands him in good stead for Saturday.

“At Northampton it was windy and we were against it first half,” said O’Brien

Chigwell construction is better than the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham Stadium IMO.

RefWatch; Ref for Carlisle v Daggers game is Ross Joyce, a 29 year old spiky haired muppet from Eston, the inbreeding capital of the North. First season as FL ref, youngest ref in the FL, and particularly shite even by the low, low standards of League 2 refs. Reffed Stags v Wombles last week - gave every decision to Stags first half, then Ardley shouted at him at half time & we got every decision in the second half. Homer - in 5 L2 games this season the home side has won 3 & drew 2. In 19 Conference games last season he gave 68 Y & 6 R = highish R.
AnangramWatch; Ross Joyce = Secs or Joy.
Hopefully he's Luke Joyce's brother

Liverpool you said

well Mansfield only managed to score through a free-kick.

Liverpool yeah.

What about the league? I have my eye on Newport, but the way we play at home I think it's more likely to be an away game. Stevenage next month maybe?

Seems more now that teams are getting the measure of us, don't seem anywhere near as certain to score as we have done, though with any luck we still have one in us and can get a win.

Deserved it I'd say. Dagenham pushed for the equaliser in the last 20 but we defended quite well for a change. Raynes, Balanta and Joyce were the standout players for me, and Jabo obviously but that goes without saying.

The lees said about the defending for Dagenham's goal the better :ffs:
