So he's just been fined £40,000 for calling Tottenham "Shit". I agree from an England fan point of view he should maybe act with a bit more professionalism. But on the flip side, fuck Tottenham.

£40k doesn't sound like too much, half a weeks wages maybe? But to be fined the same amount as Luis Suarez was for being racist is a bit strong.

Anyways, we can at least draw a line under this and Jack can get back to being England's top boy.

Meh, doesn't bother me much. Seems strange he wasn't fined for identical behaviour last season.

Suarez's real punishment was the ban, fines are pitiful whatever for footballers. It's a smack on the wrist.

I like the way Clive Tyldsley calls him "Wil-shuh" like an RAF commander, and not "Wil-sheer" like every other person in the world.

Beat me to it, admittedly I was very late to catch on.

What's the logic in this? Luis Suarez gets the same fine for 'Racist Remarks' as Jack Wilshere does for calling a rival team 'shit.' Unlogical and brainless again from the authorities, admittedly a fine of £40,000 is water off a ducks back for top Premier League players, but it just proves further the lack of consistency and consideration that goes into these 'punishments' nowadays.

Agree with a few of the above comments. The scale of these fines needs looking into in my opinion. Far too many inconsistencies in the past few years.

Apparently being a football fan is as bad as being a racist.

I guess Wilshere is missing 8 games at the start of the season, and not with the usual injury this time?

Not that either punishment was correct, but there was a difference. Suarez was fined over a weeks wages (he was on £35k at that point) & banned for 8 games. Terry got a similar fine iirc & banned under a similar "principle" as Suarez. Wilshere was fined maybe half a weeks wages?

MBR does make a good point re: relative wages and suspension. My concern is that Wilshere literally did the exact same thing one year prior and didn't hear a word. Now he's fined and "severely warned" about future behaviour? The most important aspect of policy-making is consistent enforcement.

I think the FA know he's the player the England squad is going to be built around. To be England's poster boy he's going to have to grow up in that respect.

He was clearly surveying the opinions of the arsenal fans, perfectly reasonable. At no point did he call spurs shit, rather, he was merely seeking clarification from the fans as to their thoughts on both spurs and fecal matter.

Also, if you do something once you can be forgiven as getting carried away in the moment. For him to do exactly the same thing a year later shows it wasn't a one-off and he needs to be brought into line on how to behave in front of thousands of fans. Maybe he was told a year ago that it was a stupid thing to do, and they felt this time they needed to give him a stronger message.

Precisely what I was about to say, perhaps he was warned last year about his conduct?

Fair point. I figured we may have heard something about it if he had been warned, but it's all conjecture. Either way, I find it silly that he's fined after the amount of times we've seen England players mouth "fuck" on camera — but it's inconsequential.

Can footballers actually have a laugh these days? What those did at Leicester was far worse, I know they've been sacked but where is there 40k fine? Wilshere got pissed up after winning the cup and gave the fans a laugh. Fuck me

Do you think a £40k fine is worse than the sack? It's also probably a wage proportionate fine as well, so as others have stated it's probably a half weeks wage to Wilshere. So yeah those Leicester players were worse, and they got a worse punishment.

I'll pass on the offer to fuck you, but if ever I should feel lonely and I'm round your way, I'll be sure to keep it in mind. As long as it's on the table.

The sex, not the offer.

The FA should have asked Arsenal to talk to him about his behaviour and left it at that. They should also ask someone to sit down and talk about how shit his hat was on parade day.

I always wonder why such talks need to be conducted sat down.

Wilshere should retire from international football. If I was a footballer I'd slip in how shit Blackpool are into every interview I did. What a load of bollocks.

Clough will be spinning in his grave.
