Club Statement
Wrexham FC today announces the departure of First Team Manager Kevin Wilkin from the football club.

Everyone at the club would like to thank Kevin for his endeavours during his time at the Wrexham FC, in particular reaching both the FA Trophy Final and thethird round of the FA Cup this season and his focus on developing links with the community.

This was an incredibly difficult decision but despite our cup successes our main priority is promotion back to the football league and we have not made the progress expected towards that aim. We have therefore made the difficult decision that a change is needed.

Carl Darlington and Gary Mills will prepare the team for the forthcoming home fixtures supported by Michael Oakes and we will make further announcements in due course.

Can't say I'm at all surprised with this one.

In fairness he hasn't acted a bellend at all like we thought he would do, he's been a decent bloke but he's just woefully inept.

Darlington is only part time too, as he works with the Welsh FA. I thought Keates would be put in charge, it's what a lot of people seem to want.

Not surprised really, he has done very poor at Wrexham they should be challenging the play-offs not bottom half. A far cry from the apparent correct things he was saying when he was appointed and the signings he made in the summer.

Not bad for a manager to turn two decent sides to shit in one season. Leaving Nuneaton has probably caused them to be relegated and now Wrexham turning rubbish (though to be fair they weren't much better last season)

Wow that is surprising, thought the board stuck with him long enough that he was to be given a chance for next season.

A really nice guy, went out of his way a lot to do things off the pitch.. Can't fault him on his signings either. Just didn't work on the pitch.

Anyone outside looking in could see that yesterday's defeat would be the straw that broke the camel's back. Dean Keates in charge until the end of the season makes sense for all parties involved.

Not at all surprised. The writing was on the wall after yesterdas debacle.

Hopefully Wrexham can make a inspired choice and get back challenging for Promotion.

not surprising

i dont know how good Carl Darlington will be as a manager, although he is very well respected as a coach and teaches on the Welsh FA course.

if keates doesnt get a crack, and with the amount of ex TNS coming our way, i can see us wanting their manager

Jennings' comments on Keates today suggest that he would be a favourite amongst the players

Been a poor season really for Wrexham. Even with this, I can see Wilkin getting a club in this league still.

I'm surprised they've acted this quickly. I'd have thought they would have let him have a few games to try and save himself. Seeing a lot of fools mentioning D.Ferguson. No chance in hell that's happening.

Personally I'd like for us to try and get Mills from Gateshead. We need a strong personality to deal with some these players.

Think he will pick up a Conference North club quite easily for next season, maybe even a lower club in this league as his record at Nuneaton will still count for something I think. Coming from a part-time background, this job and the task involved was just too big for him I believe. I think he spoke a very good game, he signed some decent players for us but his simple man-management skills were lacking. Didn't look like he could motivate anything. I'm sure he had big plans to move a lot on in the summer but we couldn't take that chance.

All in all, the man was not very inspiring and players didn't respond from day 1. There were rumours of falls outs on the dressing room and on the pitch. He didn't know what his best team was, didn't know what formation he wanted to play and had no discernible style of play to mention.

No idea how we do this now, whether the board have anyone in mind to headhunt or whether we open it up for applications.

Problem is that it is pretty evident that the old guard run the dressing room, but if we get rid of them can we replace them with better quality?

people mentioning Paul Cox too now. forgot he wasnt in a job at the moment. but could he work without a sugar daddy?

in terms of the squad we need a wholesale change IMO. get rid of underperformers and build team around Moult

Was this planned for a while, and a classy move to let him have the final?

Have to wonder if he would have been given the summer and the reigns to rebuild if he delivered the Trophy.

Don't understand all the hate for Gary Mills and calling him "inept". He's been a bit stupid on twitter in the past, but he's not seemed to bite since he's been at Wrexham anyway. Calling him inept seems a bit odd, as it's pretty impossible to judge an assistant manager or coach in most circumstances, since you will almost never be able to decouple the effects of the backroom staff from the manager (who it is fair to blame, since he at least chooses the backroom staff).

What Wrexham need, is a good texture within the squad:

You will not find a Wrexham fan who thinks Gary Mills is in any way good at his job, he's way out of his depth. He's a glorified ball boy. There were rumours about players not getting the training sessions they were running and I'm sure I read that the players were calling them the Chuckle Brothers which cracked me up.

Some people were mentioning him if we were to dispense with Hargreaves. Where was he before Mansfield? Surely he didn't have huge financial backing then?

Who knows, but if we plan to get promoted we'll to have to clear them out sooner or later.

Eastwood.
Sadly now defunct. He did a super Job there. Will never forget their fa cup run and that surreal win v Wycombe at Coronation Park.

They have rebuilt as Eastwood Community Football Club and still play at Coronation Park.

Moult, Evans and Hudson signed on at least for next season. Storer would have been nailed on an extension if Wilkin was still around but with a new manager who knows. Manny Smith could be tempted too. could build a decent squad around that. maybe keep some of the younger players but i know theres half a squad that will be disappearing come May

I have no idea how good at his job he is. How would I reach the conclusion that he isn't any good? Rumours are rumours.

I do feel sorry that it's not worked out for WIlkin. He's made mistakes, but he took on an incredibly difficult task attempting to turn last years god awful squad into promotion candidates. Turning shit like that around takes time. The board concluding that he hasn't done well enough to be trusted to complete the task is fair enough though I suppose. The negative football hasn't helped matters. He will be given a chance somewhere else I would have thought.
