We have signed another; Striker Jonah Ayunga from Havant & Waterlooville for 5 figures.

Conference South Golden boot winner. We are very light up top so this is a welcome addition.

Shaping up nicely...
Squad is looking pretty strong already, isn't it? Ayunga obviously could go either way. NLS to L1 is a huge step up tbh.

Think we need another CM (attacking), winger and striker and we're sorted. A LB as well if I'm being picky as I dont rate Leahy or Kelly.

I haven't been impressed by any of our full backs apart form Hare and he is injury prone.

Need a creative midfielder the most now. Wouldnt mind the Derby lad Mitchell Lawson back on loan or perm as well

Not sure if it's fair to say he's injury prone if he's only had one so far? Unless he had a few before he joined us?

Yeah would love to get ML back, but I hear we may be after another winger from Accy

Hare had quite a bad injury while at Gillingham too.

We’ve signed Ryan Jackson, who we’ve had before, he’s spent the last couple of years at Colchester

We’re taking a championship LB on trial. No idea who.

Apparently either you or us are signing Joseph Mills from FGR

I’d be very happy with that. LB who was top scorer for FGR and also captain. Hasn’t Zeki Fryers just agreed a new deal? Can you afford two decent left-backs?

He's had a decent few seasons, but I'd imagine he's quite limited at League One level. His long throw-ins should be more dangerous than they are and his attacking play is very predictable. Been a solid full back though.

Fryers has signed. He was used more as a CB last season - through necessity when all our regular CBS were crocked. Also supposed to be signing ‘who's A naughty boy’ Donahue after his court case.

Either Power has threatened to kneecap someone to put money in or he’s confident Jayden Bogle’s transfer from Derby will produce £2-3m in the sell on fee.

Well we’ve had him before so know his limitations, cant help but think the long throw is going to be his main asset.

Not exactly excited about his signing, but not to disappointed, hoping for another barry fuller type of return

Same here but I’m hoping he’ll be adequate enough.

Signed Mandron formerly of Gillingham. Seems a decent signing the Gills has offered him another contract and Barnsley, Huddersfield and Aberdeen were rumoured to have been sniffing around.

We only signed him last summer as we didnt get the targets we were after so was left short, will pop up with the odd decent game but pretty much bang average not bothered about him leaving definitely a lot of better players out there available

What a strange signing. His scoring record is, to put it bluntly, an absolute disgrace for a forward.

28 goals in nearly 170 senior appearances. 10 of those goals came in the conference. He has 18 football league goals in around 150 games. He is 25 years old. How any Crewe fan can say he is a good signing is just fucking ludicrous.

Now, he may turn out to be decent, but his stats suggest not.

He's quite clearly not here primarily for his goalscoring is he? I haven't seen much of him but I imagine (/hope) he offers a lot more than just goalscoring.

He is a forward btw.

His hold up play is fantastic, his finishing is poor. When he was with us he would spend half his time floating around in midfield just getting involved, but you'll definitely need a goalscorer to go alongside him.

To hold the ball up and bring others in to play, I would hope. If he does that well and creates opportunities for others, he's doing a job and helping the team. Not every centre forward is there only to score goals.

Well our strikers don’t get involved in the build up, even though some of our fans inexplicably think that they do. Our strikers get very few touches outside of the final 3rd, and are expected to contribute in the oppositions box and that is about it. Chris Porter said in an interview last season that he has had to change the way he plays with us, and he sometimes finds it frustrating how little he is involved but accepts that is the way we play.

Our strikers don’t play like that. They barely touch the ball in the build up. Chris Porter said that himself last season.

Must be doing something right with how we play though. Weren't we top scorers in League Two last season?

I'll reserve judgement until I see how he fits into our system. But I do remember him absolutely killing us for Colchester not so long ago...

Well obviously. I’m quite clearly not criticising how we play, I love it. I’m questioning where he fits in. And I’m also questioning why our fans can proclaim him to be a good signing (which many are) when they have barely seen him play and his goal scoring record is terrible.

I only remember him playing against us once (he may have played against us a couple more times) and he looked sharp but we were so bad defensively you have to take that into consideration as well.

As a club in our situation though, we won't be getting marquee players or prominent names, so we have to take punts. I remember Lee Molyneux coming here to big fanfare for his exploits in League Two and absolutely shitting the bed. We also remember doubting why we signed Eddie Nolan after barely making appearances for York and Blackpool in the last two seasons yet he turned into an outstanding player compared to the marquee defensive signing we made in Michael Raynes, who was a disaster in comparison.

We'll soon see how he fits in. Artell has done well with attacking signings during his time at the club so that's promising. And you'd assume we're going to play Porter less next season due to the step up in quality. So there's a role for Mandron, we've just got to see whether he'll sink or swim. Hopefully he's more of a Daniel Powell than a Vadaine Oliver...

Obviously we won’t get marquee signings, but I question the logic of phasing out Porter, who will get you around 15 goals a season, with someone who struggles to get 5.
